Exercise experience today....
Sprinted about a block to pick up a couple of sharp metal pieces that were on the road from a nearby construction site and threw them back on their lot and then sprinted back to my vehicle.
I wasn't going to pick up the pieces at first but I have been taking that route lately and was getting a bit worried each time I drove over them that I would puncture my new tires. So, I decided to solve the problem myself since no one else had! :) |

Before the run day share: Will run tomorrow morning before my first client...my thoughts this evening intense...but what else is new?!...this high altitude has helped my running...endurance...my lungs expanding in Self-love...it has been good for me...for all the miles...for all this beauty...I am forever grateful. Interesting turn of events though...in almost 12 months I will run and this time complete the marathon that has been in my life for so long now...and this chapter of my life I will close with a gratitude deeper than I can ever say. I will no longer be running in this beauty of a high desert...I will only be a visitor next time I do. How will my running change at sea level? Right now I simply do not remember the runs at sea level...how my lungs sang or cried out...but will embrace the change and breathe in all that this life offers me. Tomorrow's run awaits...good evening. Greco |

Running again and from now on until Spring in almost total darkness...and my first "Goodbye" run...thinking of my clients and how closure with them will be longer than most therapists practice...but I have always found it essential. The smell of piñon already burning from homes in this place seduces the air...birds it seemed still asleep until my run back and arriving home at 0630 hrs headlamp off, I heard the first chirp and the Crow family overhead flying proud. 6mi...my first breathing of grace for this day. keep on keepin' my friends, Greco |
Quick update - what with college and my recent health wobbles, my exercising has been somewhat erratic. Despite which - I've been wearing size 18 jeans all day today. WIN!
I'm definitely going to try for size 16 now.. :-) |
6...and 3
5:00 am My body wanted up. Pitch black view except for the stars that lived this night. A great time to somehow make my way out of the past and bring with me only the loving memories that live still clear and unmistakably alive ...and my headlight. Had a discussion that angered me later in the day...went out for another run to clear my head and rebalance my energy...fact is, I don't live in "boxes", labels are much too limiting. And, I don't live within another "box" and will not accept that label. Could use another run it seems, but won't tonight, not looking for injury in this training phase. keeping out of "boxes" except for those on the left, Greco |
5k row and a whole lot of hustle bustle.
Cold is setting in so I'm checking out a new gym tomorrow... it has potential. |

I'm going to get back into the swing of things this weekend. Not sure how exactly, but it's going to happen. You can bet your bippy on that! |

I checked out a different gym yesterday that was way over priced and under served in what they offer. But while there I met a cool woman, maybe 20 years older than me, both of us breast cancer survivors and moms to labs, looking to kick ass. She's a member of Vent and I might join her there and kick ass together. |
We have a spiffy, new state of the arts Phys-Ed facility on campus and because I'm alumni, I get to use the facilities (for free). WhooHooo, right?
I used the bicycle machine, just like the ones at my former PT office used, and I walked in the pool, and sat in the jacuzzi, and then I walked what felt like an bazillion miles, back to my car. I spent two hours, each visit, last week. I decided it was better to centralize my exercise activities to the campus because I am out there about three days a week (working on career stuff), so rather than go east to exercise, I go west. :tease: I still experience lots of spasms in my lower back and legs, and the pain is unreal at times, but I just keep going and keep moving and keep telling myself that if I don't move, it will only get worse. So other than those types of things, I am making progress. It feels good that I can move, although I still have mobility impacts I won't ever hurdle like I used to, before nearly two years ago. Btw, the anniversary of that event in my life is in a few weeks (election day, almost). Happy Saturday to every one and Keep Moving! :hk28: |
My issues of poor sleep and work stress continue. The sleep seems more under my control so I will have to keep trying to conquer that issue. I stay up late.
Today I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster while watching a show on Netflix called "Naked"- something. It's a journalistic doc show. The episode I watched was on the drug Fentanyl. It was not too entertaining, and I really don't want to be that educated while struggling on a stair master. Tomorrow I scheduled a walk with a femme friend (on this site, but don't think she's here much). It will be in the mid-fifties tomorrow so time to dress warm! We will walk in the park or by the river or both. "A body in motion stays in motion." |
Well, I finally got back to it!
Elliptical stats: 348 cal, 3.36 mi, 45:00 min, average pace of 13:24 mph. I started with 30 minutes on the elliptical but as the time ticked down, I felt strong enough to do more so I did. Afterwards, I felt super fantastic. Gotta love endorphins. |
3.5 miles on the treadmill....one week off made it very difficult!
p.s. can you sweat inside your ear?! |
Today my femme friend (Stephanie Alexis) and I had a lively walk from 96th St. to 125th St. to 42nd St. It took almost 3.5 hours and was about 7.5 miles and 16K plus steps. Stephanie is a great conversationalist and fun, plus we were both excited about the great fall weather, so it was a very special time. We walked along the Hudson River. I love when someone is cool with long walks...

Just got back from spending time at the beach with my bff/sil. We had such a lovely time and it was just fabulous weather, for October. We walked a lot, shopping along the coast line, and I even found really cool walking poles, made of weathered wood (beach comber type wood). So now I have another pair of poles to walk with and feel safe using them.
Not sure how many steps we walked, but it was a lot, every day. My back and hips and legs were on fire, so much so, that my sister-in-law (bff) gladly lent me an muscle relaxer to take, since all that walking nearly left me immobilized (pain). I slept like a rock, and felt better the next day. We also used the pool and jacuzzi and that was really nice too. :cheer: It's so true, what nycfem says: *body's in motion stay in motion* :cheerleader: Happy Friday to all! |
wanting to get back into the gym and for certain reasons swimming is not doing it for me. This morning I looked at the gym schedule and saw that an old trainer of mine was giving an intro to pilates class. I took it and I LOVE IT. I have committed to a group class and am splurging on myself with 4 privates to get it fine tuned. I am happy about this. YAY
|
I got to the gym early evening but then my friend Alice texted me and said that she and her 4 year old son Teddy were going to walk the High Line (above ground park that follows the path of where a train used to be). I believe strongly in spontaneity, and so I left the gym and met them at the High Line. Teddy had his scooter with him. Walked 12K steps for about an hour and a half. Wonderful Saturday night with perfect fall weather!

Today, (according to my apple watch) I walked 3 miles at work even though I feel like I sat all day. Exhausted since my busy brain has had me up since 3am. But I came home from work and used the rowing machine for a fast 5k and feel a lot more awake now. Does anyone else here have an apple watch? You can do fitness challenges with them and it's fun and good accountability. I've done some with friends before. Would do one with folks here if there was interest. Ps: I only have an apple watch because I'm married to a tech geek and I have their outdated hand-me-down. |
Great workout. Finding mentally and physically beneficial. Thanks. Didn’t know that about the Apple Watch

Took several (4) days off from running, no walking
either...blis are doing better. Used a couple of suggested methods and it is all working. And, I'll be back on the road tomorrow. Think my sub and friends will appreciate that, I know I will. Not running is not better than running in my book. keep on keepin' on friends, Greco |
Really good spin class this morning!

B 6 -7
Back running 6mi yesterday under a brilliant light, big sky. How I missed it...this morning waited for the light again about 0700 hrs (7am)...light stunning once again...and 7mi moving is grace...running, a prayer of gratitude for life...I know, getting a bit dramatic but that is how it feels...blis healing very well and cushioned...smiling. keep on keepin' on friends, Greco |
Today I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster.
I ran into an old friend in the locker room. I can't recall her name. She did that running into an old friend thing where you stop and talk, but I didn't have time, so I had to think fast. She said, "How are you?" I laughed and said, "Oh, boy!" She said, "I'm ready for the new year!" I said, "Me too!" Then we both giggled and parted ways. The "oh, boy" was designed to encompass more than there was time to talk about and somehow it worked! Happy exercising, friends! |
Today I spent part of the afternoon at a local farmer's market. The beautiful squash and late season vegetables and fruits looked so good, especially the huge heads of cabbage (big enough to make at least a dozen half gallon jars of pickled cabbage). I love going there because everything is locally grown and sundry cooking products are local to the area too.
I downloaded an walking app to my phone. Here's what it says, in terms of steps walked today: 4300 steps (at the outdoor market, alone). I was there for nearly two hours. By the time I walked home and lugged my grocery bags upstairs, my total steps for the afternoon exercise at the Farmer's Market was 4500 steps. Total hours involved: 3 hours. |
Today I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster. I procrastinated and went late in the day... but I went.
On the gym floor, Taylor saw me and ran up to me and gave me a big hug and yelled "JEN!" It made me feel really good. She was with Marilyn who I don't like, plus I felt self-conscious that I was dressed gym-atrocious, so I kind of halted the interaction, and she said, "Maybe we'll catch up in the locker room." So then we did end up catching up in the locker room. She's still dating her billionaire who she works for as his house manager, whose thirty years older and sleeping with other women and doesn't know what he wants. I asked her why she wanted to be with him and she got teary and said that she thinks he's her soulmate. She also told me today, but not in the same breath, that she was raised by her grandparents, so maybe it's a "daddy" issue (I say this as someone married to someone 17 years older than me- so pot meet kettle lol). Anyway I didn't tell her this but I thought it. One of the managers of the gym asked her on a date too and they went out but she wasn't interested and didn't sleep with him. I noticed she had a tattoo of a date on her inner arm, and I asked her what it meant, and she said it was the date she found Jesus. It felt good to catch up with her. She cut her hair and said she feels lighter. I'm not sure how much lighter she can feel given that she is so tiny to begin with. Peace out, exercisers! |

I am trying to stay active in between Sunday workouts...exercise ball sit ups while watching tv and some yard work....I am also limiting salt and sugar (ok I cheated during Halloween)

60 minute spin class. Rode 15 miles. It was brutal. Air conditioner was broken in the studio... But I'm glad I did it.
|
Heading to spin class again this morning and really hoping the air conditioning is fixed in the studio. I'm going to try to grab a bike that's under a ceiling fan, just in case.
