I am looking forward to her being my President, our President. http://www.newscorpse.com/Pix/Campai...-highchair.jpg |
We read about what war and oppression does to our sisters and brothers in Syria and elsewhere on this globe. Not enough talk about our animal friends and our environment. The following is a heartwarming story about one hero to many 4-legged pals in one of the most dangerous places on Earth.
Meet "The Cat Man of Aleppo The Cat Man of Aleppo: A crowd-sourced animal sanctuary in east Aleppo teaches compassion: ‘To love the small, weak cat is to love everything.' AMMAN: “Every cat has a story,” says Mohammad Alaa Aljaleel, a full-time ambulance driver and part-time cat caretaker living in rebel-held east Aleppo. https://s.yimg.com/dh/ap/default/160926/art_cat4.jpg There’s Sukhoi, named for a Russian fighter plane, “because he’s so fast.” There’s Zorro the Noble, who defended one of the cats “when the others attacked her.” “And then, there’s al-Baghdadi, who kills the other cats and takes their food,” earning him the name of the Islamic State leader. http://syriadirect.org/uploads/edito...016//cats2.png Aljaleel recounted these and other tales of the more than 170 cats, two dogs and other animals that he feeds and houses in a cat shelter—the first of its kind in Syria—in the Masaken Hanano neighborhood of east Aleppo, one of the epicenters of the Syrian war. How does Aljaleel run an animal shelter in a warzone? The answer is that he is not alone. An online network of supporters around the world is donating thousands of dollars to help not only the stray animals of east Aleppo, but also the humans experiencing the shortages and trauma of blockade and bombardment. http://syriadirect.org/uploads/edito...6/0830cats.png http://syriadirect.org/news/a-crowd-...hing%E2%80%99/ |

Famous Frog "Toughie" Dies, Sending Species to Extinction. Toughie, the world's last Rabbs' fringe-limbed tree frog and a symbol of the extinction crisis, has died at his home in the Atlanta Botanical Garden. http://pmdvod.nationalgeographic.com...1304515848.jpg The famed frog's age is unknown, but he's at least 12 years old, and likely older, because he was an adult when collected in 2005. Mark Mandica, who worked with Toughie for seven years, says the frog's story isn't entirely unique. “A lot of attention had been paid to him in captivity, so he even has his own Wikipedia page,” Mandica, head of the Amphibian Foundation, notes. “But there are plenty of other species out there that are disappearing, sometimes before we even knew that they were there.” http://www.wallpaperspider.com/wallp...per-ulyrh0.jpg *In a challenged ecosystem, amphibians are unfortunately the first to perish. They need clean, unpolluted waters to reproduce. Thanks to companies such as Monsanto, nearly every body of water is contaminated.
