I hope your all doing well tonight. Well its been almost 5 days since I started watching what I've been eating and drinking, and I have to say that I'm noticing a HUGE difference in alot of things. Other than a 500ml bottle of Sprite today, I have had nothing but water and tea (and a glass or two of vegetable cocktail). I was at Wal-Mart today and before I decided to go with the Sprite I checked the sugar contents ~ 24. Thats bad enough but not as bad as the bottle of 7-Up that I checked out; sugar content ............. 70? OMG I think I almost went into diabetic shock reading that label so thank goodness I didn't even take a second look at that 7-Up. I was even checking out the juices too and those sugars ranged from 24 to 40.

I've been out every single day this week so far and I can actually feel that My body has changed even just abit over the last few days ~ once I have My gym membership squared away I will be working out for all its worth, not letting it go to waste. I can see a new Me on the horizon, and no matter how long it takes and how much I have to put into this I'm in it for the long haul ......... I'm excited to get this going :)

Zimmeh, do you have to be so blunt about my one last love filled addiction?? Do you?? Do you?? :hamactor:

:rrose: for you... I will give you :rrose::rrose::rrose::rrose::rrose::rrose: and more if you don't tell my goodie two shoes side the benefits of giving up coffee....

Giving up coffee was easier than giving up soda. When I first gave soda up, I had headaches and was moody. Two weeks after I gave up coffee, I have had no headaches or real cravings for it. I think getting those teeth pulled was a good thing; even though I can only have semi soft foods for another week. If I had known now, what I knew when I started drinking soda or coffee, I wouldn't. That mess has caused me more issues with my teeth and body that I don't like. I cannot remember if I already posted this; but I was telling Ruff one day, that when I would have my morning coffee; I would start with a 12oz Starbucks cup and add two tablespoons of creamer. The coffee is 2 calories for each 12oz and the creamer is 35 calories for each tablespoon. Already, I have consumed 72 calories just in coffee. I would have atleast two cups of coffee every morning. This adds up to 5 calories for coffee and 140 calories for the creamer. Multiply that by seven days and you get: 35 calories for coffee and 980 calories for the creamer. Total calories consumed in my morning coffee: 1015. Muliply that by four weeks and you get: 4,060 calories...That is an additional pound every month...No wonder I am feeling much better and less bloated.

Good Luck today and have fun,

Zimmeh

I am leaving for work and have a great day!

Sure, the juice has nutrients (which is good), but it's loaded with sugar...and none of the fruit fiber that slows down the absorption of it and keeps you from spiking blood sugars.

Water is fabulous. Tea is fabulous. That veggie juice is fabulous.
I'd stay away from all soda and fruit juice.

Eat your fruit whole....and enjoy it. In that form, you get all the nutrients, the benefits of the fiber, and less of the bad effect of the sugar.

By the way....apples are an awesome food for diabetics (and anyone). There's quite a bit of evidence that the natural pectin in apples (along with the fiber) actually helps control blood sugar levels. They make a wonderful snack for us. :)

I'm really glad to have someone who is also diabetic to talk to Jo, I mean yeah My parents are both diabetic as well but only watch their diets sometimes so having someone to talk to who actually watches alot more will help to keep Me in line as well as give Me another support. I had that bottle of Sprite yesterday and it was good but I felt better afterwards when I had water. I have not touched fruit juice in like 2 weeks and I'm not really missing it. I did find diet or low calorie fruit juices that have less than 10g of sugar ~ would those be okay, or just avoid it all together? I do have apples in the house but they are almost gone so I will buy more tomorrow (I still have a couple left).

I've been drinking water and tea for almost a week and I am feeling a BIG difference in alot of ways. I had some of that vegetable juice last night and damn now I remember why I love that stuff. Those have been My drinks of choice for 5 days now exactly and I don't see Myself going back to pop anytime soon (and probably never again). I am going to be going for more walks and will be going tomorrow to get My gym membership fully activated so by this weekend I will be able to begin working out :)

A lot of people i talk to at work AND my mother all say, yes they need to get at it again but will wait til after the holidays... So kudos to you, and to us all who keep at it day in and day out, eh! The holidays are going to be a difficult time, but we can do this!

As for me, December 1st is going to be my restart day too.. Why you ask? Well, this has been a hard week for me, i gained 2 lbs, which feels crushing after losing 65 lbs.. But it's only 2 lbs, right? But also, i've felt so completely unmotivated this week, it's as though i just do enough to say i'm doing something, but it's not really what i should be.. my portion control has been awful, my cravings and obsessing is through the roof, and each day has had a set of challenges and i keep setting myself up, over and over again... So no wonder i'm in such a pickle..

Its never easy to get started with our diet regimens, especially around the holidays but this can be the most crucial time for us to stay on track. Around this time of the year I think its so easy for us to throw ourselves off track and justify it but that can be what really plays havoc with our weight loss. If we can stay on track and continue to do what we need to do to ensure we are healthy and happy, then we know that we can do anything we set our mind to :)

Prior to doing so, i always felt so sluggish and blah, and for every soda and juice i drank, it only increased my thirst.. i didn't realize any of this (even though i am sure i was told muchly) until i gave it all up..

Now that i'm drinking water so much,i don't have that excessive thirst anymore, and actually feel like my thirst gets quenched which is a great feeling.. It will be really hard to give them up at first Matthew, but keep strong.. It took me about 3-4 weeks because i drank only soda and juices so excessively - but once i got through those weeks, i don't even really crave those so much anymore.. And you'll feel great too! my energy level changed drastically just with dropping soda and juice from my diet.

PS - welcome back Matthew!
(((hugggggz)))

I haven't actually really craved any kind of soda since I stopped drinking it, the water seems to keep Me more than full so even at supper time I'm eating less. I'm slowly getting used to the taste of water but I still dont like it ~ even with that being said, I still keep drinking it cuz I know its better for Me :)

When I have a craving for sweets, I break out a Fig Newton and much on that. It has more nutrients my body needs...To bad I cannot have any nuts or I would be snacking on some raw almonds.

Have a great day,

On Monday after not having pop for 2 days I was at a meeting for a college I want to attend and the guy offered Me a can of pop so I said sure why not ........ I drank half of it and chucked the other half cuz it suddenly became a shock to My system ~ I simply could not finish it anymore. That a far cry from when I couldnt even go 5 minutes without a sip of pop now I've gone 5 days! I feel better and plan on sticking to what I am doing :)

40 calories a go (for 2Tbl) and I was having more than 2Tbls in each cup. :| It was shocking.

I've not given up my morning coffee but I have become stringent in my measuring of half & half.

I gave up half and half and droped my colesterol over 100 pts...........

Hi Matt glad u r back and doing well, makeing a choice to do something and sticking with it is a state of mind that commits anyone to doing what is best for them,u know we are all in this together and will suport eachother in this crazy weight loss choice.
Today is the first day I have fely near human since my back went on the fritz, hope I didnt over do but it was good to do something but deal with the misery of it.I played catch up for the two weeks of laying around on meds..still on them but up and going as each day dawns,I got all the christmas stuff done and over for this year, bought groserys then put them away.I even played with the fur kid for a while then we took a walk,I wanted to work out but didnt want to push it..pool is tonight so I gotta keep it together.
As for coffee creamer I use community club creamer its only 10 calories pr teaspoon and 1 carb..I usely only drink two cups in the morning tho every now and again I drink soome in the evenings. Now with soda,I have a can now and then but rarely drink the whole thing, some say they get hungry drinking sodas but it dosent do that to me.The one thing I have to watch is I love hot chocklate especaly before I go to bed,the instant stuff has near 24 carbs a cup so its a now and then thing.

I meant to post this link earlier, this is a company that makes zero calorie salad dressings. The dressings I've tried (Balsamic, Italian, Caesar) are all really great, I was surprised to see they were zero calories and made with all natural ingredients.

http://www.waldenfarms.com/products/dressings.htmll

They also have a number of sweet sauces and syrups. I've not tried those, I detest the flavour of artificial sweeteners and it seems most of those products use splenda.

These are carried in my local Stop & Shop market, I'm not sure what their distribution is otherwise.

Good morning y'all & happy Friday!

Well the other night, D noticed how horribly baggy my jeans were. So, she said let's go to shopping. Ugh, shopping for clothes with me is usually hit or miss. If I try something on and it doesn't fit, I get discouraged and then my attitude gets shot to hell.

Well, we started out at JcPenneys. We started looking though the jeans and I picked up my old size.... D snatched them out of my hands and said no. She handed me another size and I stomped off to the dressing room, knowing they weren't gonna fit. Low & behold, they slipped right on! She came back with 2 other brands and they fit perfectly, too!

So, long story short, I've officially gone down 2 sizes in my weight loss journey so far :) Sometimes, it's the mini milestones that keep you motivated... yep, mine was a new pair of favorite jeans!

Two sizes down is fantastic!

awwww THANK YOU so much! Sometimes I get discouraged if the scale doesn't show a loss... at least I know that progress is being made if my clothes are fitting differently.

Congrats, Pinkie! Clothes shopping, especially pants, is so hard for me. I experience the discouragement you spoke of, even when I'm healthier. It's the bane of the pear shaped woman.

Ebon and I did pretty well yesterday. We had more structured meals with more finite proportions. We also took a short walk in the midst of our movie marathon and then worked out for half an hour at the end of our day.

I'm proud to say that I ddn't give into the munchies, even though sitting in front of the TV is a trigger for me to start shoveling it in. Eyes on screen, disengage brain is how it usually works for me. I've downed pints....multiple....while watching a show.

So, yay for us and yay for everyone else.

Zimmeh 12-02-2011 01:34 PM

Woohoo Gemme!!!! You can do it!
