A crush taster?

I'm all about the real deal..

Whoever can smoke a brisket and have it melt in your mouth good, has my vote!

But first we need some terms for clarification. Are we grilling or barbecuing?

One grills steaks, pork chops, hamburgers, seafood, tofu, veggies, etc. (the latter two being known as the lower food groups)

One barbecues whole hog, shoulders, brisket, ribs and the stray chicken.

I am quite confident in my skills in either arena so choose your weapon wisely.
If we BBQ then I will insist on the usual judging standards of "Appearance (to break down into bark, smoke ring, meat), Tenderness, Taste/Flavor (meat judged separately from sauce/rub) and Overall Impression."

Unless you were on the Oklahoma "Slaughterhouse 5" team that took Kansas City by storm (Oklahoma Joe's) then I'm not scared one bit.

There are many other details to consider, time/place/judges, but I will let you marinate on it and get back to us.

The big question is you challenged as "a bet" which means there must be terms for the loser. I propose should you lose that you must do the following;

1. You must pet a cat for 10 seconds (be strong, think of bull riders).

2. You must also find a "good" forever home for one of Wolfy's stray kitties.

(Definition of "good forever home" to be defined by Wolfy.)

p.s. Sorry to hijack the thread Wolfy! But good food, good folks and good music are sure to bring out the crushers, right??? (<---desperate ploy to somehow link BBQ to a crush thread.....)

Sure sounds like a challenge to me. When's this cook off happening and are we invited? I'd like to be there for this one. ;)

T minus 8 days until I see my crush!!!!! I am so excited! Now to figure out what to wear and all that jazz. I have been crushing on her for 10 years so I am really honored that we are meeting. I can't wait. But what to wear? Crushers have a crushtastic day and remember dream the dream because anything is possible.

Of course Planeteers are invited, some of y'all will be judges! We'll need to figure out logistics..... Pity I won't be at the BFP Reunion this year. :goodscore:

There won't be revealing of names at this point.....I wouldn't want anyone or anything interfering with this date. I can share this she is amazing and I am one lucky guy!!

So what is being tasted and how many taste testers is it going to take to determine the best taste?

I don't have a smoker so it will be grilling. I will take part of your challenge . If I were to lose (doubtful) I will pet a cat for 10 sec. But I don't have time to try to find a home for a cat. And I don't know of anyone who would want one that doesn't already have enough. If you lose you must take a picture with a huge sign that says JAGG is the Grilling Champion of the Universe and I am not worthy!!! And the pic

will be your avatar for 2 months. And you must also post it in the gallery.

With all due respect. The terms of the wager regarding the Lady to post her picture publicly...if, in fact, she would lose said bet; shall be changed. Otherwise, the bet is off.

That's ok, I will accept your "grilling" challenge with the following modifications;

1. Steaks and brisket (not a huge fan of pork chops)

2. I sympathize on the difficulties in finding a good home for a stray animal so in lieu of that you may make a donation in any amount to any animal shelter of your choice. (I read the T.O.S. and I don't think this is a violation as I am not soliciting anything on my behalf or for a specific agency.)

3. I will post the signage as you requested (DMW that is very sweet of you to stick up for me like that) but the sign will not have "I am not worthy" (I think I have a rather high worth thank you very much) but it will say "JAGG is the Grilling Champion of the Universe and I am not!!!" If I am required to have this as my avatar for 2 months then you post the picture of you petting the cat (Wolfy, go find a large extra fluffy one please...with a bow) for 2 months as your avatar.

Dang Wolfy, who knew your Crush Thread would turn into the "Great Crush Cook-Off" thread? Maybe we should have one big contest or do teams? I won't de-rail further but the whole idea sounds like a blast. At the least there will be full tummies and laughter....two really good things!

Good Morning Crushers! The cook off sounds like it is going to crushtastic! It will be nice for some of the crushers to get together! I am not even sure who to root for the cookers or the tasters.
For any of those that are interested or keeping track of my crushtastic situation. I am still trying to figure out what to wear on our first date and working through the nervousness. Oh and the most important piece of information........T MINUS 7 DAYS until I am face to face with my crush!

First things first and why this thread is here;

Yay!! :cheer: How awesome for you! I imagine if you told us the venue some clothing options would be suggested...folks here don't seem to be suffering from the "shy" gene.


Thank you so much for asking for clarification! It's nice to see someone pay attention to details. I'll also add detailed oriented people make darn good lovers events run smoothly.

So I take it there are two events being discussed? The Cook Off and a Crush Tasting party? I'm confused but for the record this girl promised to offer up steaks and brisket *only* (or at least until I see who is on the Crush Tasting list....)

In reading some of these posts it seems we have several potential cooks (JAGG, Kent, lilapache, SweetBliss...others???). TN. might be doable, Memphis looks to be half-way between Atlanta and Tulsa (probs. why the BFP reunion is in Little Rock.) So maybe somewhere in TN.? The location doesn't fuss me but unlike Mr."Have Tongs will Travel" (<--or was that thongs JAGG?) I prefer to drive to the location as I will be bringing my own fuel/wood chips (no propane for this girl) and my own meat. <---Ok, that sounded very unladylike but I am not about to rely on some rinky-dink supermarket cut of meat. I know one of the last true independent butcher's markets in Ga. and the owner will order and cut to my specs.

The only fly at this cook-off for me is timing. I am one over-scheduled works-full-time-single-mom-scout leader-chick. Perhaps if we could pin down a location then the schedules will fall into place? If we are going to do this then I would like to maximize the number of folks who can attend and watch JAGG pet a cat.. Later in the fall when it is cooler and doesn't but up next to the BFP Reunion might work?

I think it would be awesome if our favorite folks from across the pond could come too! Where are they anyway??? Also, where is Firegal? I owe that one a basket of non-canned, eat over the sink peaches.....
