I was incorrect, it was only 721 calories yesterday. The more I thought about it..how could that be? I have no idea where I got that number.

I’m going to get a few steps in today. As well as do a bit of chores around the house. It’s officially “soup weather” now, plus a I’m going to get a head start on limiting sweets and salty stuff from my dietary intake and start swigging more water. I gained some weight this past year. That’s what falling in love does to a person: you become fat and happy, seemingly all at once.

Anyhoooo.

Here’s to new beginnings. ☺️

Hope you all are doing well and just remember to soak up all the joy you can, right now. Seek Joy. You’ll be blessed, for sure.

Happy Exercising to all our exercisers!! :hk20:

Had a good ride this morning after not exercising for most of November. Felt good to take a break but needed to start moving again. Rode less than 5 miles but put in 50 arm rolls, so that's good. Need to add some other exercises to address a stiffness in my lower back, but this is good for now.

:fastcycling:

Bèsame* 11-27-2023 08:34 PM

Took advantage of the cool morning and did a 5k walk. It's getting easier and easier. Gotta keep moving. I've walked more than 100 miles this month. Yay me!

Had an okay ride this morning. I'm struggling to exercise. Haven't gotten to the place where I enjoy it and/or look forward to it on most days. Not sure why, but I keep pushing... for now. This is what I accomplished last week.

– Rode 22.3 miles in 1hr 50 min
– Did 150 arm rolls

My current goal is to do at least this much every week till the end of the month, but I won't beat myself up if I don't meet this goal.

I like outside stimuli when cycling indoors. This morning I listened to an audio book on American History while watching the squirrels and birds take advantage of the melting snow. This helps my ride go by more quickly. I'm not here for mindful exercising just yet.

Hoping y'all are getting in a step or two.

Had a nice and slow ride this morning. Had a sore lower-back ache from moving small-ish pieces of furniture yesterday. I didn't really want to ride, but I didn't ride yesterday and once I got on the bike I found a nice and steady pace. This week I...

– Rode 24.1 miles in 1hr 36 min
– Did 100 arm rolls

My rides this week were much better than last week. I'm not sure why, but I had fast and high-speed rides on a couple days that felt really good. Whatever the case, I'm going with the flow.

:fastcycling:

Orema 12-16-2023 07:41 AM

Had a good workout this morning. Didn't ride the bike today but used the stair-stepper. Have been using the stair-stepper most of the week because my knees are doing pretty good (just a little swelling though some stiffness in the evenings) but my glutes needed attention.

Stretching and the stair-stepper is helping but I'm still sore. I'll keep working at it.

I have a membership to a gym with Medicare's SilverSneakers. Maybe I'll go after the holidays.

Orema 12-23-2023 06:14 AM

Had a good workout this morning on the stair stepper. Not sure how many steps I put in but I could feel it in my thighs. My current goal is to use the stair stepper without holding onto anything. I think I'll get there in the next week or so.

I rode the bike a couple times this week but have been focusing on stepping.

Am having a good workout this morning by rotating the mattress, cleaning the tops of fans, shower walls, everything but the baseboards. Knees still don't like touching the floor.

According to my mother and sister it's bad luck to open the new year with a dirty house, but that may have been their way of getting me to help. Still, I'm doing extra cleaning in case they were on to something and it's being counted as my workout.

Blade 12-31-2023 06:05 AM

Well I jumped up and ran(hobbled) to the bathroom to pee 3 times during the night. Does that count as exercise?

Orema 01-08-2024 07:51 AM

Took a friend's dog, Bella, on a walk this morning. The snow didn't stick to the pavement so we had a long walk. It was around 30°F and it felt nice. Both of us were bundled up. She had on her sweater and I had on my winter gear. We walked a half mile and it did us both some good.

Cheering for exercise and favorite sports teams

So…. I’ve been watching cheerleader exercise videos (I am a former high school cheerleader and drill team member) by the Michigan Lions (NFL team) and of course I attend our high school team events because our team is The Lions, too. Anyhooo, I do leg stretches and warm up exercise to do something good for my body and keep up the positive momentum that both teams I cheer for extends into the better part of my everyday life.

Just sharing in the joy is all I need to smile and feel better as each day goes by. I might not can do all the things I used to but one day I will.

GOOOOO LIONS!!!

Had an nice ride on the bike this morning. Stayed between 12 to 13 mph. Didn't push it. Didn't even change my heart rate much but it felt good. Didn't ride for a few days so I intentionally took it easy.

Have been using the stair stepper but my glutes are still a little tender. I have membership to a gym with medicare. I think I'll go when the snow clears up. I know, I've said that before now, but I am going.

:fastcycling:

GeorgiaMa'am 01-17-2024 08:30 PM

I did some walking up and down the hallway without using the walker. It was slow going, but I felt mostly stable.

I am learning to play pickleball! This is a game that combines tennis, badminton and ping pong. We play in doors in a raquetball court and we bring our own pickle ball net. It is so much fun! :)

but not today

I take a water aerobics class three times a week, weather permitting. I love the class and I love the othergoofy women in the class. I exercise in the deep end, and I work my arms, legs, and abs.

Orema 02-02-2024 04:08 AM

Had a good ride on the bike yesterday. It was good because it went by quickly. I just cannot do mindful exercising. Just the thought of it turns me off. So, I have videos on (usually bike-riding views, bikers, exercisers, line dancing, etc). I have audio (music, podcast, audiobooks), blinds open so I can see the snow, rain or sunshine. Before I know it, I’ve met my goal and upped my heart rate. It works for me.

Snow has melted so I can do some walking. I might go for a short walk today if I see Huck or Bella outside.

My first visit to the gym I just enrolled at is located in a small town, off a huge river (which is at flood stage right now because of unusual weather conditions) and is home to a bird sanctuary. Lots of local neighbors go to this gym, so I made new lady friends yesterday plus I was greeted by many who know me.

I’m not quite eligible for the free membership offered via Medicare, so I am paying month-to-month until Medicare kicks in for me. $44 bucks a month, I had to pay first and last month membership dues so I paid $88 bucks for 2 months of access. I chose the middle membership because all I need is an exercise bike, a walking machine, access to the pool and Jacuzzi for now. Of course, if I want to lift weights or use those types of things then I can but I won’t because I’m not rich enough to afford a personal trainer. So I’m not going to do stuff that might make my mobility worse but just stick with simple exercises and push it to the limit. :tease: :eyebat:

So here is my routine: ride first for half an hour, walk on treadmill for 30 minutes, then go to pool where I swim laps for 3o minutes, then lazily do water aerobics for about ten or fifteen minutes, then drop into the jacuzzi to relax for about ten or fifteen minutes. Then off to the ladies locker rooms to shower and change into my street clothes. I exercise at the gym on Sat, Sun, and Monday after day shift at work, skip Tues & Wed cuz I work the late shift on those days, then in my days off I go in the afternoon between 2-4 pm.

All the machines and weights are on the second floor which looks out on the river,,,,, so you can watch wildlife, birds, and kayakers or boating.

Happy hello’s to all and keep on Keeping On! :)

Had an okay ride this morning. Took me way longer to reach my goal than usual. I'm going through a period where I'm really bored with cycling.

I have an appointment with the AgeWell Services tomorrow. They offer a number of programs. I'm most interested in the Aquatic and Exercise programs.

I filled out the paper application today at home and checked the Lesbian box under Sexual Orientation. Who knew the day would come when that would be an option?

I'm looking forward to signing up for the exercise and swimming programs.

Had a good workout this morning. I started with some calf stretches using the Squat Wedge Blocks I have. Rode the bike for 5 minutes just to get the blood flowing. Then I did some line dancing to youtube videos and finished off with a few arm rolls. It wasn't a cardio workout, but more like a movement workout (whatevah).

I think I like mixing it up a bit. Next time I'll do the arm rolls earlier instead of saving it for last.

Hoping everyone is getting in a step or two.

Had a good inside ride this morning. Didn't go as far as I wanted because the knees are a bit stiff. I did some steps on the stair stepper and that helps the knees. Glutes are sore which means I need to hit the stair stepper more often.

It's been a year since my first knee surgery and they're still stiff, but they're so, so much better.

It's crazy warm in my area today so I'll get out for a short walk.

Had a really good ride on the bike this morning while listening to Heavy D. All my rides have been good since I've mixed things up a bit.

I usually don't eat before exercising, but lately I eat a banana or a slice of banana-walnut bread with peanut butter on it 20 minutes before exercising and it's made a difference. It gives me a kick that I can feel as I'm working out and I treat myself to a chocolate protein drink afterwards. Works for me.

“Motion is lotion” exercise report

So, a few weeks back I caught some bug which I probably got from somebody at the gym. I hate when people expose others to their illnesses by not staying home.

Anyhoooo: here is what I do when I go to the gym.

1) half hour on the recumbent bike at level 2. My heart rate scores are between 75 to 113, depending on how fast I pedal or position my body on the bike.

2) half hour of doing laps in the pool. Backstroke, only.

3) a good long sit in the jacuzzi (20 minutes or so)

4) sit in the steamy sauna for about 5 minutes, before I call it a day.

And, I definitely like my gym!! Get to see all the wildlife out on the river front and the blossoming cherry and plum trees. So pretty here, right now.

Orema 03-11-2024 07:01 AM

Lucky you, Katz. Sounds like you have nice times at the gym. :)

I had another good ride this morning. Beyoncé came on just as I was wrapping up so I stayed with it for another half mile.

I'm finally at a place where I know I'll pick up cycling again if I stop for few days or even a week or two. I guess I learned that last year with my surgeries but it's sinking in now. I didn't have an exercise routine for most of my life and since I've started exercising, I'd sometimes get anxious if I missed a day or two. Not anymore. This peace of mind added to the good ride I had this morning. No guilt for not exercising this weekend, no pressure to try and maybe make up for lost time. Just an easy ride while the sun came up.

Had a good half-mile walk with sweet Bella this morning. I hadn't planned on exercising today, but found myself outside with the cutest doggie in the 'hood.

I was tired by the time we made it to Bella's home, but it was good walk. A year ago this time I was in between surgeries and was using a walker or cane just to make it to the restroom and kitchen. So, there is that, but I really need to up my "walkin' game." I'm going to some PRIDE parades on the lake this year and can't be gettin' tired after walking a few blocks.

Had some good rides this week, did a bunch of arm rolls, and put in some steps on the stair stepper (glutes are appreciating that). I'm stronger this year than I was last year, thank goodness. It's just taking time.

Hopin' y'all are gettin' in a step or two.

Pete and I joined a bowling league, the most lesbianic thing I have ever done in my life. We’ve been practicing, and I am so glad and relieved that I was able to play a few games each night. Pete bought us bowling shoes, and they are pretty ugly.

We’re practicing once a week until the league starts. Pete is really into it, because her parents were in a league, I think. She’s doing so well. 🎳

Had a good ride this morning and went for a couple walks. Did a nice walk around HomeDepot. Arrived shortly after they opened to pick up a lock for the gate and was able to get in a good walk without a lot of people traffic. Next I went over to my local supermarket and super it is. It's like having an A&P and Macy's all in one. That walk almost wore me out, but I made it without spending more than $25.00.

I need to hit the stair-stepper but I think I'll have a donut and some coffee instead.

I went back to water aerobics today. I’ve missed some classes for a few different reasons. My classmates were concerned about me, which I appreciated. After missing so many classes, my poor old body is sore and tired.

Orema 04-04-2024 04:50 AM

Had a great ride this morning while listening to some urban radio stations. Knees are stiffer than usual and I don't know why. I'll get on the stair stepper and stretch my calfs in a little while, that usually helps.

I might take my neighbor's dog, Bella, for a short walk later on if the snow doesn't stick. I like walking in the rain. Bella doesn't.

:fastcycling:

Orema 04-17-2024 06:40 AM

Had a good walk this morning with Bella. It was raining lightly and we both held up well. I hadn't planned on walking because my instep is tender, but I couldn't resist when I went out for the mail and saw the cutest dog in the city.

It's been a year since my bilateral knee surgery and the knees are better than they've been in decades. I waited waaaay too long to get them fixed and am lucky they repaired as well as they have.

They were a little stiff this morning, as usual, but I'm not limping, can pivot, walk, and even trot a bit. I don't get on my knees unless I absolutely have to. I can, but it feels too weird to me so I avoid doing it.

I need to get on the bike, maybe tomorrow.

easygoingfemme 04-17-2024 01:30 PM

There was a work event about a mile away from the office today so I walked there and back. I'll have time for a short hike this evening before the sun goes down.

Chancie 04-17-2024 02:32 PM

My water aerobics class meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 am. Our bowling league meets Tuesday nights, at 6:30 pm. That Tuesday to Wednesday stretch is a challenge.

easygoingfemme 04-20-2024 06:35 PM

I was going to bike today but the day that was supposed to be warm and sunny ended up cooler and cloudy with heavy winds. So I bundled up and took a good long hilly walk. I can handle the wind while walking/hiking but it sure does make cycling a lot less enjoyable.

easygoingfemme 04-21-2024 01:08 PM

A 4 mile hike that turned into a 6 mile hike due to all of the times that my friend and I get gabbing and realize we've gotten off trail or wandered onto a different trail than planned. We always add around 2 miles to the mapped miles on any trail we take. Today offered two nice high peaks to look out from. Little wind burn on my face :)

easygoingfemme 04-22-2024 05:52 PM

I had a good hilly 15 mile bike ride after leaving work early (woohoo)
Then an evening walk with my mom and daughter, about 1 mile.

Kätzchen 04-24-2024 08:41 AM

I chose my advantage plan for Medicare yesterday with the help of a volunteer counselor from the Senior agency with the state of Oregon (s.h.i.b.a.): Regency Blue Cross Blue Shield. In about ten days I will get a fitness subsidy to help out with the monthly fee I pay to the gym I go to. Yay! :)

When I first started going, back in February, I could only cycle for about ten minutes on a recumbent bicycle. I’m up to 40 minutes now, cycling about 10 mph, with a heartbeat rate topping out at 130 beats for small snippets of time (cardio stuff).

I’m careful not to overdo on the cycling machine.

My favorite activity after I cycle is to swim laps for about half an hour, then it’s jacuzzi time.

I haven’t gone to the gym for about a week now, so I’m going to the gym today. Happy exercising weather to all. (f)(f)

Orema 04-26-2024 09:56 AM

Had a good workout this morning and on some other days this week.

Today I unpacked then repacked some books I still have in the garage. Loaded 2 boxes of books and my pink dolly into the car and took them to my local library. The library is having a book sale next week so it's good I got them in now. Will take some more boxes to them over the next week. The boxes were heavy but I'm getting my strength back. I thought about selling the books last year in the garage sale, but I just couldn't do it. It's easier for me to give them to the library and to let them sell the books.

Went shopping with some frineds who were looking for furniture. We walked and walked and walked, then stopped for margaritas and fish sorta-tacos (they're "sorta" like tacos, but not really—don't get me started on the sorta-like Mexican food in these parts).

I also moved furniture in the femme cave this week because I had my floors and area rugs steamed. I've been moving around!

You'd think I'd lost weight, huh? Nope, I'm still in that 5 lb range BUT I'm still 5 lbs less than I was when I started my surgery last year. So, there is that. My doctor won't be impressed with nuggut of info, but I am.

The stiffness is now restricted to the immediate knee area. Not the upper calves nor lower thighs. Yesterday I made some gummies. I stood at the stove and stirred jello into the the canna-oil for 30* minutes before getting tired. Before I would have a high chair in the kitchen. Not now. What a difference...

I haven't cycled, but will very soon.

:fastcycling:

*Stirring time is usually 15 minutes, but I'm in a humid climate and (because of that, I think) more stirring is needed.
