Thanks..it's not easy but I know It is worth it..BTW..Your story stopped me from having one at a really hard moment..ty |
I'm still having cravings! What is up with this? Usually they are over by now. Maybe it is because I'm still using the nicotine lozenges. At least I didn't have a craving until I was awake for a couple of hours.
I'm worried about going back to work tomorrow. I think that is a huge trigger for me, especially on my breaks! Not to mention, the stress...It is tax season and it makes it crazy busy at work. I will drink LOTS of water and maybe read or something on my breaks...I may have to do the "I'm not smoking for 5 minutes" thing, 5 minutes at a time until the craving passes. I don't know why it is so hard to quit this time! I'm glad for this thread. It does help to have a place to vent about it and also for support and it does give me more strength that I would have if I were doing this completely on my own. You all ROCK!! |

Funny story that happened yesterday: I had my sister put my patch on me. It needs to be taped on because they will not stay on my skin for nothing due to meopause..ha Well last night I had 2 smokes..irrated myself but still on the program. Found out this morning, that when she taped it on she didnt pull the tab off..so I only got a tiny piece of the patch all day..ha So today, the patch is on right..but it does help. I am using nicoderm patches. They seem to be the best for me. |

So far today, no smoking...Will do my best to stay strong tomorrow! Maybe I'll treat myself to a little chocolate :chocolate: instead of a smoke on my break...I guess that may not be the best substitution, but maybe for tomorrow it is okay:praying: |

I did Chantix (so I had one time withdrawal, but it certainly wasn't as bad as quitting cold turkey), but everyone is different, and adding that now wouldn't really make sense at this juncture for you, anyway. As an aside, "cravings" for me lasted a long, long time. I see this as different from "withdrawal". |
I don't know HOW I made it through the day at work without smoking! A huge trigger was driving past the gas station right by my work...plus work itself. Now I'm off to my class...I will not go outside with the smokers or I know I'll beg for one. Today was the day from HELL at work too. I had a frosty for lunch :-). LOL

Get cinnamon altoids to suck on..unsweetened greatfruit juice to take sips from... and always carry either a cinnamon toothpick or plain one in your mouth...it reallly helps...smiles Good for you btw! |
Lots of great ideas! Thanks!
|
Wow, it's really cool to see so many of you tossing out the smokes! Great job! :)
Jan 5th a year ago was my quit day, and I truly do not regret it a bit. |
10 months ago yesterday for me! I never thought I would quit...I did it.
Stay strong quitters....you can do it!! |
One more day of non-smoking :-) Today was probably the hardest day so far! Tomorrow isn't Monday, so that should help :-)
|
Great job! Keep it up!

Still haven't smoked and have been trying to wean myself off the nicotine lozenges. I didn't have my first one until 11 am today. I still am gettin about 1 powerful urge to smoke a day...but I've come too far to go back. I wih I could smoke one every once in awhile and not start the habit again, but apparently I can not. I used to be able to, but it is playing with fire! Way too easy to get sucked back in!

I usually quit cold turkey too, the 10 or so other time I have quit. I knew I couldn't do it this time. My life is too stressful right now, My work is CRAZY because it is tax season, and I'm taking 2 classes and a few other things, I wouldn't have made it a day without smoking, so I decided to use the nicotine "supplements" LOL. Today...I had the food craving...I ate way more sugar cookies than I should have! Then...I realized what I was doing and took a nicotine "supplement" to save me from gaining 5lbs in 5 minutes! LOL I'm okay now :-) Good thing I didn't have any potato chips in the house! Stay strong everyone! I know you all have helped me to not smoke a great deal. The support is great and it's nice that you all understand what a struggle quitting can be. Just realized, it is 7 days today...still not out of the woods...will probably always be in the woods...but each day I breathe a little easier! |
day 22 cutting down
First let me say CONGRATS to all who are quitting or trying to quit! That is fanstastic!
I have chosen to cut down as you have seen. I haven't been back in a few days so thought I would check in..lol I am on day 22 and I am currently at 3 to 4 a day right now. Will be cutting down to 2 or 3 real soon. My body is still fighting it a lil. But this is what seems to work for me the best. Seems to me like that lil bit would be easy to cut down but seriously it is not. But it will happen...trust that...ha! It simply amazes me I have kept to it and am down to that..btw I have gained 5 lbs so I am still ok..That won't be hard to get off. smiles |

This time I find I can't do it that way..but I was smoking way more this time than then. I figure even if stopping is slower for me, it is better than what I was doing and consistant. I have slowed from almost 2 packs to this now. Hope to be smoke free soon..smiles And thank you very much....It is nice to others doing the same or the same process..it really does help during the hard times. Atleast it does for me! |
Pacing the floors this morning.....I will not go buy, I will not go buy, I will not go buy!!
So, lemme get ready to have a few folks over for Super Bowl watching this evening....The good news is they are non smokers! |

Well, like you lot I'm giving up something (else) that is so very bad for me. It's day 6 for me and I'm hanging in by the skin of my teeth and by jingo! it's hard. I'm gonna do it though. By hook or by bloody crook! May the force be with you :tinfoil: |

toothpicks to play with help alot. remember to breath, get rid of all smells on smoke or ashtrays. And when you really desire a smoke, get busy doing something. Today is my 23rd day of cutting down...SO FAR I HAVE HAD NONE. My daughter started today as well to not smoke...way cool |
Good for you, Dude. Hang in there and remember all that great advice you are giving us!

So far so good! Only problem is today I am eating everything in sight. Last time I quit I didn't have this craving thing. I am guessing I will find the 15 pounds I lost:blink:

A few tricks, Unsweatened greatruit juice, toothpicks, drinking water instead of eating that has ice in it,crushed ice to chew on in a cup, cinnomin everything helps..fireballs are good, get up and move, breath deep, change all habits you used to do to not have them, allow yourself breaks like when you did smoke but breeth fresh air, sugar free cabdies, and fruit and veggies are a free food, You can eat all you want of them. Just be careful of what goes on them and how much...smiles Your doing great! |
Thank you and those are really good tricks....wish I had them when I went to the store. Today is Super Bowl watching and the house is filled with chips and salsa...Apple pie and ice cream...I do have Coke Zero..LOL!

Just a question to everyone else.
Have any of you noticed horrible heart burn since you have tried to quit or when you quit before? If so, what did you do for it? Nothing seems to help yet that I have tried. |
Sorry I don't have anything to pass on for this, I never had that out of all the times I have quit.
Not sure how to reply to the message you left! I don't have a particular team to root for this year....pretty much the Super Bowl this year is just a reason for friends to get together. Quote:

Another day with no smoking :) Great job everyone! Still using the nicotine lozenges, but less and less each day :)

I am still on a cut down program but haven't smoked 1 today at all...smiles |
Despite it being such a long day for me...8 hours work, and then a class in the evening, I have only used 3 nicotine lozenges today! I'm looking forward to being completely nicotine free soon!
I hope everyone had a great Monday! Keep up the great work! We can do it!! |

Don't knock yourself out for using help...The big key is your not smoking...good for you! |
Having a hard time today..But I am offically 2 days without a smoke.
Does it get worse? Or does it get better from here...ha |

Be prepared for the worst then if it doesn't happen it'll be a bonus. :cheesy: Use all those techniques we've all spoken about in the thread. The best things we do for ourselves are not the easiest. It could well get worse but you have this thread for inspiration and hopefully you've developed your own internal positive self talk to get you through the 'wilderness' times. I'm so stoked that you've made it to the non smoking part. Only another day and the nicotine will be entirely out of your body. Go you!! May the force be with you :tinfoil: |
Everyone is doing so well! Keep it up. I didn't fair as well. On Sunday, my non smoking friends arrived....with a friend I have previously met and she is a smoker without any inclination of quitting. Well, I did bum 2 smokes and justified it by being a good host, not wanting her to be outside smoking all by herself!
The good news is I did not go out and start buying a pack, so here I am on day 2 of not smoking, again! |
