Hrmm... that usually means it's not loading the Java correctly. Were you ever able to get into chat before?

If you were, have you added or changed something recently on your system?

What operating system and browser are you using?

no, i haven't. I added "ad-aware", but was able to enter chat no problem for over a week after adding it.

Hrmm.. TK can you do the following for me:

1. Remove any and all JAVA installs (this would be any of the JRE)
2. Reboot your computer
3. Open a browser and go to here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
4. Under the Windows section, click the Windows Online and follow the instructions
5. After re-installing, go back to the link and click on the "Verify" button. If that works, try chat again.

Linus.. Thank you for your help in this.. But it's a no go, man.. did all of the above and still no go. I'm about to just accept that i will never chat on the planet again, lol

umm, if I may try to help: using Chrome...clear out all cookies, history..etc..clear out cache. See tools (tool symbol) on the upper right and go to 'settings'. Under 'data privacy' hit 'clear browser data' and delete all. Also follow second link here and delete all cookies.

Sometimes it's an overloaded cache or corrupt cookies causing problems.

Hope it helps.

In addition to Kitty's suggestions take a look at this: http://java.com/en/download/help/enable_browser.xml and do the steps in the section associated to your browser (in this case, Chrome).

posting photos

Hi,

Would someone please explain to me how to include a photo in a post?

The only icon I see relating to that, asks for a URL, but what about photos that are just on my desktop, and don't have a URL?

Thanks, as always!

Scout

Put those photos somewhere online and then paste the URL in. There are a lot of free sites like http://imgur.com/ and others that will allow you to do this. We don't allow desktop uploads unless they go to the gallery.

IS, you should be able to right click on a photo and copy the image address or click the properties link and copy if from there. This works for me when I lift photos from google or facebook. Hope that helps :)

Otherwise, I know picturetrail.com is a good photo site and they give all sorts of IMG options.

KayCee 06-28-2012 01:53 PM

IslandScout, http://tinypic.com/ is also good.

First choose your file and the size you want the pic for example to be. Then hit upload. After that choose the 'img' or 'url' you want. Then copy and paste that in between the [url]'s or [img]'s of your post.

Hope it works for you....

:nerd: <----- me...lol

OK, have no clue what magic combination worked here.. but i am able to get into chat again.. lol.. The entire site may now rejoice, lol Thank you, Linus and everyone else that helped.

No. We ran into an issue and we've been waiting for the developer to get back to us.

Parker 07-18-2012 10:40 AM

Just curious Linus - is that issue extended to avatars? I havent been able to upload a new avatar (nor have I been able to use a link for a custom avatar) and was wondering if that was part of the galleries glitch.

No. It's a separate product. What issue do you get when you try to upload or link it?

I tried uploading a .jpg (more than one, actually) that is 100x100 pixels and 3.67kb - and I also uploaded that pic to my FaceBook and tried using the url - each time, when I click save changes, it just says "Invalid File."

DMW 07-18-2012 03:19 PM

Same. I can't upload a custom avatar either. I thought it was me doing something wrong. Or that i had to pay for a membership. which i did. maybe that hasn't gone through. But, i have the option for a custom avatar now.

the message i get is also

... invalid file.

also got

upload failed due to failure writing temporary file
