Looking for some Latin food while in Chicago?
Check out Amaru 1904 W North Ave
I am not familiar with Latin cuisine so I was dependent on my dining companion when it came to ordering! It was good, whatever it was she ordered, but what really sticks in my mind was this dessert we ended up splitting! https://s3-media4.fl.yelpcdn.com/bph...KIViL9SQ/o.jpg Elote Cake with salted caramel ice cream |

Something new and a little different for cocktails......
https://scontent-lht6-1.cdninstagram...kzOA%3D%3D.2.c
The Whale 2427 N. Milwaukee Avenue They bill themselves as A glamorous destination for elevated American fare & cocktails with a mid-century gambling theme. I must say I've seen more glamorous places on my travels around the city but this place was nice enough. The menu had some interesting items but we stuck with just the cocktails which really packed a punch! Bartenders were accommodating with helpful suggestions seeing this was our first time there. There is outside seating for those who enjoy that, but we sat inside at the bar to soak up the ambiance. |

Something a bit odd at Table, Donkey and stick....
2728 W. Armitage Ave. Chicago
On my last visit to Chicago I noticed the following at the bottom of a menu at this establishment stating....."A 2% surcharge will be added to your total to help us provide health benefits to our team." We enjoyed the food and the waitstaff were friendly & efficient but I'm not really sure how I feel about being forced to help a "for profit" establishment with their health care premiums! |
Going to be in the windy city soon, then perhaps check out....
CHICAGO UNDERGROUND PEDWAY TOUR WITH FOOD, CHOCOLATE & WINE
Underground Chicago Walking Tour Friday Sept 13th The underground Chicago Walk is a tour through Chicago’s pedway, a little-known tunnel system in the heart of downtown Chicago. It may sound scary but fear not, the recently rehabbed tunnels are used by thousands of savvy locals every day. The pedway connects many of Chicago’s beloved landmarks, like Macy’s (Marshall Field’s), The Thompson Center, Block 37, The Daley Center, Millennium Park, City Hall and many more. Miles of new tunnels have been opened, with miles more in the works. Come explore the underground tunnels while sampling food at some of the unique restaurants, cafes and shops the pedway has to offer. You’ll sample artisan grilled cheese sandwiches, frozen kefir, traditional Thai cuisine, Garrett’s popcorn (a treat bag of their famous “Garrett’s Mix”), a wine tasting at Macy’s wine shop (Friday tours only) and a stop at Macy’s Candy Kitchen. The tour stops by the unexpected underground American Victorian stained glass art exhibit and ends in the Chicago Cultural Center, home to the world’s largest Tiffany dome glass ceiling. Give yourself some extra time after the tour — which is updated for winter to keep you inside and warm — to take in one or all of the Cultural Center’s free art exhibits. |

Warhol fan and going to be in the Chicago area soon?
“Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again” Art Institute of Chicago 111 S Michigan Ave Sunday October 20 2019 - Sunday January 26 2020
This retrospective of Warhol's career features more than 350 works for guests to explore. Instead of focusing on a specific era of his life, “From A to B and Back Again” accounts for the entire breadth of the Pop Art legend's output, from early illustrations that were commissioned for magazines to recolored portraits of celebrities that graced the cover of Interview magazine. While there are plenty of familiar pieces on display (a print of Marilyn Monroe, several Campbell's soup cans), there are also sections of the exhibit devoted to lesser-known aspects of Warhol's practice, including performance art, television and publishing. Filled with self-portraits, homages to vaunted brands and celebrations of fame, “From A to B and Back Again” accentuates the echoes of Warhol’s art in the contemporary world—and seeing so much of it one place only makes its prophetic themes that much clearer. Quartino 626 N State St Chicago
I just was reminded about this place in a phone conversation. I believe it was on my last visit to the Windy City that we visited it. I do recall it was the first time I even had dates wrapped in Pancetta! So good that we ordered them twice! If memory serves me right I had a Bolognese pasta dish. The peculiar thing is I don't remember or associate a dessert with this establishment! Could we have actually passed on dessert? Seems highly unlikely when it comes to us two. Check it out and see what you think...:eating: https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/me...6/quartino.jpg |
