I am still having problems with Majjoing solitaire (I know, I butchered the spelling). Whenever my game is over, I get a black screen and then I am bounced out of there. I am wanting to do better than my last score (which I havent done yet) and am worried that when I do, it wont get recorded.

is anyone else having problems with that game?

and why, in the first round, when I get rid of all the squares, does it roll the numbers real fast and then throw me out of the game? Dont I get to go to the second turn?

softness,

When a mahjong solitaire game is over, the rolling of numbers very fast is the game adding your leftover clock time to your score. Then you will see a black screen which is the page sending your score to the leader board. The page can take a bit to load. If you are just getting a plain black screen, you might want to update java - that solves a lot of arcade problems.

If you clear the board in the first round - I never got a second board. Some games have funky quirks in them. So leave a couple of tiles and click for a new shuffle.

Maybe that will help a bit.

WISH LIST

Is it possible to MOVE the FORWARD button on the pm response AWAY from the REPLY button?

grin..

or am I just going to have to learn to pay attention to what button I am clicking?

Linus 12-15-2010 11:28 AM

As I like to tell my students.. "Reading comprehension isn't a requirement but it does help.. " ;)

That kind of change would require quite a bit of code change. It could be done but won't be a high priority on our list of "to-dos".

asphaltcowboi 12-16-2010 08:03 AM

im wondering if anyone one would want.. and if it could be done.. if the high scores in the arcade could be reset like every new year? give everyone a chance to grab at a high score from ground zero?

Linus 12-16-2010 11:30 AM

Certainly could be done but let me check with Medusa if she wants to do that. I'd hate for people who have gotten the high scores already feel like it was for not.

That would be my concern. If someone gets a high score on December 30, 2010 and we reset on January 1, 2011, it wouldnt be fair.

Sensitive Subject

Hi Linus,

Is there a way to put a permanent banner on a thread, like the banner about the Inner Sanctum? The reason I ask is that we've got rules for the age-play thread, but they aren't posted anywhere and so people break them without even knowing they exist.

Would it be possible to put a notice on the Daddy/girl Dynamic House and on the Sanctuary thread--the kind of notice that pops up no matter what page a person is reading--stating that no pictures of actual children are allowed, and maybe also explaining why?

Thanks,
Cath

I concur. I have never been in the arcade, but people can get pretty serious around that stuff and work hard and long hours to get top scores in regular arcades, so I bet they do here, too. Nah, don't mess with a person's high score...just work harder to beat it!

"THIS POST ISN'T AS THINLY VEILED AS YOU THINK IT IS. ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO HIT THE SUBMIT BUTTON ON THIS POST?"

I believe the reality of a website like this is that it's going to consistently draw new people, and there is nothing visible to the majority of people to say that the two specific threads for age-play have different rules than all the rest of the website. In effect, that means these two threads have invisible rules.

It seems only fair to find a way to let people know that it's different, and since many people navigate from the front page or from their subscriptions (without going through the formal forum pages that list all the threads) it seems to me the only way to be transparent and fair about the rules is to post them right there on the threads themselves. That's why I made the request.

Maybe someone could draw up a rules post and regularly repost it? Arwen does that with the 9 Words Poetry thread because folks come in there and just write 9 words and leave, without bothering to read anything else to see what the rules are for the thread.

Sadly, in just about every thread that has rules of conduct or whatnot, most people don't seem to bother to look around and find out how to post and what is and is not acceptable but just go and throw whatever they think the thread is about up. The gaming threads are notorious for this and is why I don't frequent them as much as I used to. I am very much a 'play by the rules' kind of person and it's not worth the irritation to me so I just don't go in there so much anymore.

Medusa 12-16-2010 09:37 PM

It's possible with several caveats.

There are modifications that will force users to read popups based on what (I THINK, so don't hold this in concrete) Forum they are in so we would have to put the Daddy/Girl thread in a forum by itself in order to do that (and that's provided that we can find a modification that will work with the version of software that we are running).

I will look into it but also will encourage people to use their judgment when posting photos. Just because there is not a neon sign above a thread flashing rows and rows of "rules" does not mean that there is not some responsibility on the poster to pause and ask themselves if what they are about to post is a good idea or if it might have ramifications to the other members or site owners.

Hell, we have folks who have been a member of this site for over a year who have never read the TOS. :seeingstars:

Why does it have to be a pop-up? Won't pop-up blockers disable it?

Would it be possible to just add to the banner that's already there? It already says it's for threads not meant to be searchable, so could it also say "do not post pictures of actual children in these threads"?

I confess I haven't gone to the forum page to see which other threads are in the Inner Sanctum, and that I'm assuming anything potentially troublesome enough to have been placed in that forum probably shouldn't have kids' pics in it anyway. Maybe I'm wrong... but if not, wouldn't it be easier just to add some text to that banner than to hunt down a whole new gizmo?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You know.... it doesn't seem logical or self-evident to me that there would ever be any repercussions from posting pictures in a thread, especially pictures that already came off the internet. This has been a huge (and troubling!) education to me. I wouldn't think that a newbie to a thread would even know that we could have any kind of trouble or ramifications over whatever pictures they might post. I sure didn't know, and I've been around a while.
Bit~
It doesnt *have* to be anything, but we clearly need something.
It may not seem logical to you why we are so strident about photos on this site so let me explain a few things:
(in list form because Im super disorganized right now, not meant to be preachy or anything)
1. Many people do not understand Daddy/Girl, Mommy/boy, or age play. For those people, logging into a website and seeing someone who claims to be a "Daddy" talking sexually to someone who is using "babytalk" or who appears to be a child will raise red flags.
2. Photos of children, even if hosted on another site, are problematic when mixed with chat from grown adults who appear to be encroaching on sexual behavior. Even flirtations mixed with photos of children can make us look like a site full of pedophiles and Im SO not down with that.
3. We certainly arent picking on the age threads with these guidelines either. We don't allow nudity to be posted anywhere on the site, even if it's hosted on another server. This is mainly because our server has guidelines and we will quickly be classified as a porn site if we have lots of photos of naked sex organs all over the place.
Just the other day, we had to ask folks not to post photos of human corpses on this site.
We may at some point have to ask folks to refrain from posting other types of images.
The bottom line here is that we have to do what we have to do to keep this site safe and operating. Our operation is often in the hands of the people who post here, meaning that we could be shut down by our service provider if people post things that are illegal, questionable, or legally troublesome.
I'll clue you in on a little something-something: There are folks out there who would like nothing better than to see this site go bye-bye and are willing to comb this site for hours a day just looking for something to report to our hosting provider, or something to start ugly rumors over, or something to just cause headaches for the Admin and Mod team.
While people like this often have my pity for a life that is so obviously lacking in love and positivity, I don't intend to make it easy for them to play out their ridicululousness. This is why we have to make boundaries and ask folks to help us keep the site well lit.
Doesn't mean we can't discuss kink, sex, irreverant issues, hot topics, etc. Just means we have to exercise some care and responsibility when doing so.
I think we can do that.
Thanks,
Admin
{{{{{{{{{{{Dusa}}}}}}}}}}} I understand, darlin, but I'm glad you posted it. I think it wouldn't necessarily be logical to a newbie; I'm sorry I didn't say that very clearly. I think that unless a newbie sees a post like this one, where you've explained it so well, it probably would never even cross their mind that a pic could cause a problem.
Just in case it's not coming across clearly, I'd like to say again that I do understand why there are rules and why the rules include no sexual content and no pics of kids. I agree with those rules. I just would very much like to see them posted in a way that neutralizes the threat of a thread community being summarily disbanded because a newbie breaks an invisible rule. Thank you for figuring out how to do that, Dusa. I appreciate the hard work it takes to keep everything going smoothly.
The "upload failed" for the gallery could be that your photo is too large or in a format that is not supported by our gallery software. Try uploading a smaller photo and see if that works :)
Origins of timed out?
I am wondering how the phrase "timed out" was chosen to indicate those who have been naughty. Time outs make me think of misbehaving children....which indeed we can be. But it's kind of belittling as well.
I'm wondering if there is a more age appropriate phrase like.....on sabbatical, reviewing options, exploring new opportunities, forced vacation, thinking it over, suspended, barred, banished, inactive, exiled, paused, blocked, sequestered, defrocked, disqualified, quashed, sidelined, locked out, vetoed, busted, lockdown, inoperative, idled, frozen etc.
Hm, think I might have just answered my own question.
The only option that was available when I set up the site was "Banned" and since we don't really ban folks (unless egregious), I chose "timed out". No real reason other than it was familiar phrasing carried over from another site.
I'm liking the idea of "access suspended".
I know I don't do this often, but on occasion I do post pics in the gallery
And now on to my question, lol
Is the gallery broke or is it just me tonight
I uploaded pics twice that said the upload was successful, but I don't see them in with my other pics?
I have a question. Is there anyway to make a married subscription that married couples can pay for that won't cost as much as a Sentinel if both wish to have the Supporter 2 level. Thanks in advance for the answer.
