Had the radio on an old school station, and now I cannot get it out of my head.

Confession: I might have sang along to it.

Africa -- Toto (Live, 35th Anniversary)

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"

It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
(I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa
(I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
(Ah, gonna take the time)
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Listening to the music of the great Ladies of Soul Music.

Superwoman -- Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick and Patti Labelle

Early in the morning I put breakfast at your table
And make sure that your coffee has its sugar and cream
Your eggs are over easy, your toast done lightly
All that's missing is your morning kiss
That use to greet me

Now you say the juice is sour
It used to be so sweet
And I can't help but to wonder
If you're talking 'bout me

We don't talk the way we used to talk
It's hurting so deep
I've got my pride
I will not cry
But it's making me weak

I'm not your Superwoman
I'm not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything's okay
Boy, I am only human
This girl needs more than occasional hugs
As a token of love from you to me

Oh, baby

I fought my way through the rush hour
Trying to make it home just for you
I want to make sure that your dinner will be waiting for you
But when you get there you just tell me
You're not hungry at all
You said you'd rather read the paper
And you don't want to talk

You'd like to think I'm just crazy
When I say that you've changed
I'm convinced I know the problem
You don't love me the same
You're just going through the motions
And you're not being fair
I've got my pride
I will not cry
Still I can't help but care

I'm not your Superwoman
I'm not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything's okay
Boy, I am only human
This girl needs more than occasional hugs
As a token of love from you to me

I'm not your Superwoman
I'm not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything's okay
Boy, I am only human
This girl needs more than occasional hugs
As a token of love from you to me

Ooh baby, look into the corners of your mind
I'll always be there for you
Through good and bad times
But I can't be that Superwoman that you want me to be
I'll give my love, oh lasting love
If you'll return love to me

I'm not your Superwoman
I'm not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything's okay
Boy, I am only human
This girl needs more than occasional hugs
As a token of love from you to me

Ah ha, If you feel it in your heart
And you understand me
Stop right where you are
Everybody sing along with me

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh

I'm the kind of girl that can treat you so sweet
But you've got to realize that you've got to be sweeter to me, yeah
I need love
I need just your love

I'm not your Superwoman
I'm not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything's okay
Boy, I am only human
This girl needs more than occasional hugs
As a token of love from you to me

[QUOTE=theoddz;1223742][CENTER][FONT="Book Antiqua"][SIZE="4"][COLOR="Black"]Superwoman -- Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick and Patti Labelle

I put Aretha Franklin's greatest hits in my car stereo the other day.
I drove around a lot yesterday, long enough to hear every song.
I had forgotten how much Aretha's music was the soundtrack of my early lesbian years as a semi-pro barfly. The fast songs drew everyone to the tiny floors of womens' taverns & bars.
But the slow songs--oh, my.
I recall the song, "Till you come back to me" was what we called a 'buckle polisher.'
Butches would hold their femmes so close as we danced, our belt buckles would shine like new afterwards.
Aretha sang the songs we fell in love to back then.
She also sang songs we felt in lust to.
She also sang songs that allowed us butches to stand on the side of the dance floor and evaluate the way some of the hottest femmes danced, which to us was a scientific predictor of how they would be in bed.
Yes, I was superficial in my 20s, I confess.
And yes, the best dancers did turn out to be the best elsewhere.
Aretha helped.
:rrose: RIP Diva

Enjoying her great, great voice this morning!!

I Dreamed A Dream -- Aretha Franklin

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong
I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed, that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream
I dreamed

She will forever, ever.....be missed. RIP Ms. Franklin, and thank you. :bouquet:
