Wow!!! I never saw the film - it came and went without much noteriety. It is one of my favorite novels by one of my favorite Latin American writers - Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I loved the book, will order the dvd if I can get it.
I had totally forgotten about this, thanks for reminding me. I love this song, and I love the Flemmish quivering and throaty vibrations in Shakira's voice. Her hips have not done service to her beautiful voice...she has alot of talent besides those hips, but who can help but be mesmerized by them! Thank you so much for posting this, it's truly beautiful. The lyrics are exceptionally beautiful...and heart-wrenching. Quote:

Layla, this is sensually beautiful. I didn't understand the words, tho I did pick up on some...I'm assuming this is Portugese? Or is it Italian? I am fluent in Spanish, which is similar to both those languages, so I can pick up on some things. It is beautiful, both in rhythm, and visuals. Thank you for posting it, I enjoyed it very much.

The song is beautiful, I have the movie track and this one has always been my favorite. Shakira's voice is amazing, but you are right, it is often overlooked because of her other many attributes. As for the lyrics...yes they are. |
*sigh* why don't they write more songs like this...
Thanks for the tip. Don't you hate it when they take a great story, and mess it up? They did the same thing with 'House of the Spirits' - Isabel Allende's wonderful story. She is another favorite Latin American writer - I've read most of her work. I didn't see the movie. There was not one Latin actor in the movie - just knowing that was enough to know that they f***ed it up. Altho, I think Meryl Streep was in it. And all due respect to Ms. Streep - one of my favorite actors - I would not waste my time or money on that one. And what a shame - that is such an outstanding story!! Quote:

UofMfan, if you like beautiful lyrics, esp the classic songs of the Latin world, give a listen to this...you may or may not be familiar with this woman, but she was the rage of the 1940's and 1950's Latin world. I know her from my mom who loved her. Beautiful song, beautiful voice, and beautiful woman.

Ok, I'm a 70's child, and I admit it. Disco lives - at least in my heart & soul. I loved it then, and I love it now. Here's a taste of what the 70's and disco was all about - we had a great ol' time, esp if you liked to dance!!

Scan the thread C, you'll find lots of good 70's music in here. You'll also find it in the 70's thread and One Hit Wonders thread. Thanks for sharing with us :) BTW, I too, believe Disco still lives...at least inside of me. |
hanging my head and sighing...I confess...I use to disco when I was younger. Yes. I did. I HATE to dance (except slow dancing..that is wonderful) so the only way I would disco would be to drink...so its associated with my drinking days and I cannot do the bump without remembering my antics as a 20 something drunken woman. Thank god I quit drinking. Who knows what other horrors I might have committed...
no...seriously, when I give my AA lead, I talk about the shame and humiliation of having to confess I discoed... hanging my head...my name is softness and I am a former disco queen... Honey, please don't blame 'Disco' for any of your failings. I know it was the times, and getting high was part of it. I don't blame you for that, but please don't blame disco, even tho I know it's hard for you to seperate the two.
I for one associate Disco with my one eternal love, and I guess that's why it still holds such magic for me. But in spite of all the ups and downs of my relationship, there was always disco and dancing - the one thing we both loved and had in common. But aside from all that, I just love the sound and the music. So, let's dance!!! [quote=softness;65290]hanging my head and sighing...I confess...I use to disco when I was younger. Yes. I did. No, I did not take it as 'tongue-in-cheek' as I thought you were relating actual life experiences. But be that as it may, I wish you didn't relate 'Disco' tp those tough times in your life, altho I'm sure it can't be helped. I just wish you wouldn't associate the music with all of that - jes sayin'....but you do what you gotta do.
