I just started playing ukulele. I have a Risa acacia soprano uke and am loving strumming out a handful of songs with easier chord progressions. It's sure helping being a guitarist to start with.

I'll be looking through this thread for some good practice songs that I can transpose for uke. I'm bored of my own music folder, despite it being quite extensive. :cheesy:

Keep on a-playin'

Would love to be able to play moldie oldies and sing along....

Assuming you're right-handed, maybe take lessons from a left-handed guitarist? You'd have the mirror effect that way too! :D

JD, who is a lefty, but plays bass guitar right handed

Means it's the smallest of the ukulele sizes and made from solid European acacia. Apparently acacia is akin to koa wood which is considered a preferred tone wood for high end ukuleles.

I purposely waited for this one because it'shand-made in Europe, from European woods. The neck and headstock are a natural mahogany and the fretboard ebony. Because it's solid tonewood it should sound better as the years pass. We shall see.

I jumped in at the deep end and bought something a little better than an entry level instrument because I knew that it'd be fun and something I continue to noodle around with for the foreseeable.

Apropos you learning: A good beginners book where chord boxes are explained and used is what ya need. I taught myself loads from such books when I first started out.

thanks Daktari! maybe you could post yourself playing it on YouTube?? Or post pics of your Ukulele?

Thanks for the tips. I bought my guitar cause I wanted to sing to my fav music.

Not being rude here, but I have a hard time holding the guitar like a guy, my girls get in the way... any tips for that? Would a strap help me hold it, and still be able to play? or do I need to sit down and rest it on my lap somehow? plus I'm short, 5'3", so my arms aren't long either.

I'm a li'l un too Sweet Bliss and have managed to wrastle with all sorts of guitars and sizes; granted I don't have 'girls' to contend with though...Dolly Parton plays guitar though so it's possible!! ;) Small hands are not a bar to playing either. :cheesy:

Looks alot like a guitar a friend of mine has. Well, it's red. Not sure about the rest. I don't know much about electricity.... lol.

I have an acoustic Yamaha. It has the most wonderful tone... you got any more pics?? I live for eye candy.

I will run to YOUtube and check out Ms Dolly. I forgot about her, as I recall she also had dragonlady nails. Thanks Guys.

My main guitar is the Alchemist on the list ^
She's rather special and I feel privileged to own her. There's a few other instruments too, including a Baby Taylor M. :cheesy:

Glad to find this thread! I am a brand new guitar player, here is my new baby. Any advice for the beginner would be much appreciated. My interest lies in rock/blues/folk.

Kindly,
