I smoke both my pipes and cigars on my front porch and back deck. I also use one of those electrical smoke eaters if those around don't like the smell. However, it is few and far between. I also buy the really cheap cigars and throw them in my chimnea when I have that burning. It really smells good. Now I have all of my neighbors doing that too.

This is why I want to get a house. I want to build a "external man cave" for those rainy days but on the nice summer days, I want to be able to sit by the fire, look at the stars and when done, toss it into there. Sounds like an awesome way to enjoy, Andrew. |

TD: Thanks for the cigars. I smoked one right when I got it and saved the rest for a later date. :)
Andrew: I just got the package! Awesome! Thank you so much for the pipe, tapper and cork (stopper?). I sniffed the tobacco. I'm probably gonna try tonight after dinner. I wonder how much this will remind me of my grandfather who always had a pipe in his mouth as long as I can remember. |
Ahh Linus, :praying:
I am so glad you got the package. The tobacco is my all time favorite. I thought I would share a bag with you since you are just learning the ropes of it. Yes, the cork goes in the center of your ashtray. And the silver thingy is the taper. Enjoy! :pipe: Love, Andrew |
I just smoked a really good cigar (thank you Linus). It was the one that had the Gh name to it. I can barely remember the name and how to even pronounce it. It was good. I smoked it while drinking a cup of coffee this morning. The cigar was stronger than I usually smoke, but it was good. I really enjoyed it. I will be buying those in the future. Most definitely. Thanks Linus! :cheer: Love, Andrew |
Ghurka? Had a 2nd light blue band on it?
|
Yep - that was it! It was good. Thank you brother! Where did you find that? Famous Smoke Shop? I love that store. I could spend thousands $$$ there. |
Actually, Cigars International: http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...sp?item=CS-GHD :)
|
I've never had them but want to try . . . . . . if only because of this FB page.

Heh.. Gurkhas are actually a nice cigar and they some doozies (check out their Black Dragon ones).
|
Are the Black Dragons stronger? Like in one puff I will be on the floor, and on antibiotics for a month or two? |
wondering wich to get....
Several months ago I quit the ciggy habit cold thurkey, but sometimes I want a smoke so bad I could spit.SO I been thinking about mayby cigars may work better than ciggys but I have no idea wich to get.I tryed cigars before but what I bought was awfull to say the least..I figured a cigar would last longer than a ciggy.Since I quit I have put on 18 pounds and I hate it,corse its been winter and i'v not been as active as I had been.I dont like anything strong but not wish washy either...any ideas guys?
|
You are like me then. I like a mild to medium cigar. The best advice I can give to you is to go to Famous Smoke Shop.com and look online at what they have. Then go to a cigar shop close to home. See and compare what the guys in the store say vs. what you have seen online.
I really enjoy Baccaratt, Macanudo, Flor de Oliva, Nub, EO, Siglo, Oliva, Primo del Ray just thinking off the top of my head. I think you will really enjoy these too. Some others are Creme de Jamaica, Aston's (any), Helix, Upmann, Avo Tubos #9, Leon Jimenes, and Arturo Fuente. Just smoke a couple at a time, see what you enjoy. Keep us posted on what you select, and how it tastes. :cigar: |
Andrew
Thanks for the heads up on cigars.Since I quit the ciggys, wich was cause they got way over priced and begain to taste awful. The weight gain and the frayed nerves ...sometimes I just need a long relaxing drag off something to chill cause I get the hebejebies fidgits with lead me to the fridge. So im hopeing to find a middle ground with that.At least the weather is spring like and near 70 so I now can go back to working out, wich will help.

Rockinonahigh, I like to smoke a cigar while listening to a baseball game on the radio. I am usually outside with the furkids, and one of which will be glued on my lap. I also like to take a nice hike, and light one up, and just sit down next to a brook or stream and watch the water flow. It is sooo relaxing. I find it takes the edge off. Peace brother, Andrew |
Ok. I blame Andrew for this.
I ended up getting a small Churchwarden pipe (Savielli?), some CAO Vanilli tobacco and some pipe cleaners (both for the corn cob pipe and for the Churchwarden) as well as a simple bag for tobacco. Jackhammer: thanks for the link on the tobaccos. I'll have to investigate more into what kinds I like (I know I have a sweet tooth and the Cavendish sound like they are up my alley). Anyone (who smokes a pipe) use http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/index.cfm to find new tobaccos to try based on reviews? |
So I decided to treat myself this year with a special pipe: http://www.usedpipes.com/dupibrgr1ch.html :) Oh.. and pipesandcigars Trout Stream tobacco is great. Smells like molasses and tastes great! :cheesy:
|
Giving appreciation to you all
I don't smoke, but I love...love....LOVE the smell of a good pipe. Cigars are okay, but a good, smoky pipe...Heaven!

Hehe.. I never thought I'd enjoying smoking it but I remember growing up with my grandfather smoking it (I even seem to like his brand, Captain Black Royale). Oddly enough, K loves it too. Andrew: dude! Thank you so much! That flake will go good in the new featherweight Peterson Calabash (thing is tiny!) but does smoke well! :) And I love the pouch as well! I think some Trout Stream will be in that since it's now my favourite. |
Hi All, Anyone smoking anything new? :cigar2: |
I just got today some new Cain NUBS that I'm gonna try.
And been trying different tobaccos for my pipe although I've been really fond of EggNog for pipesandcigars.com as well as the tobacco my grandfather used to smoke, Sail Navy Blue (it's cheap but brings back memories). I've also been trying a few other new ones along with a new pipe or two (made by a Canadian manufacturer, Bingham). I'm still partial the Churchwarden and Canadian styles but also like the Bulldog style of pipe. |
I really enjoy smoking Oliva's, Creme de Jamaica's, Montecristo's, and Don Tomas. As for pipe tobacco I am using the cheap stuff - Middleton's Cherry Blend. And I like a good whiskey, bourbin, or coffee to drink while smoking. |

Hello fellow cigar smokers!
I started smoking cigars to have something in common with my mate at the time. Come to find out, I like it! I prefer coffee infused cigars, the latest one is Isla Del Sol (I think)...it is smooooth and tastes soooo good. I've also come to realize I prefer lighting my cigars with a match rather than a lighter, it just tastes better. |
Quote:
Ah.. you might like Drew Estates' other coffee/chocolate ones: Tabak Especial. And yes, on the matches. Although a good butane lighter also works well (these are different than the disposal lighters which leave a fuel after taste) |
Pipe Tobacco
I enjoy aromatic blends most of all. English blends are a definite no. And the non-aromatic blends are just ok.
Anyone else? |
This may sound like a stupid question, but I've only smoked cigars, never a pipe. So, what's the difference between a pipe and a cigar? I'm interested in getting a pipe and I like coffee flavored tobacco, what kind of tobacco would anyone suggest?
|
Linus- thanks for the head up on this thread (Did a search, but nothing came up.).
My fave cigar to date is the Diesel Shorty Unlimited. Also like Ghurka (Dragon and Evil). Also, the Man O War Ruination is tasty. I will usually smoke a Maduro and especially Oscuro. Definitely want to have some food in your belly with those Oscuro. A good wheat ale or IPA makes a nice cigar companion... Will check out your blog! |
Pipes
I inherited over 100 pipes from my Grandfather so I've been sampling different tobacco with different pipes... I'm not much into the fruity flavors- lean towards leathery, woody varieties.
Great thread! |
Where I smoke.
I fish a lot (A LOT) and will usually take at least two cigars with me. I have a waterproof box that I take in my kayak and will just float around enjoying a nice Maduro...

Starbuck,
I smoked cigars for years, and never a pipe. It was Jack and Linus who got me really interested in pipe smoking - plus I got my Grandfather's pipes after he died. So with that said, what I did is this. I went to a cigar/pipe/tobacconists shop in town. I went in with a pipe, and sat down at the pipe lounge. I asked the guy behind the counter a ton of questions about the tobacco. Jack and Linus helped me with the tools and how to clean out a pipe. I think taste is personal. Some enjoy certain flavors when it may not be so good to others. It is just a matter of what you enjoy. Most places will be happy to give you a pinch to smoke before you purchase any tobacco. I say get a pipe you like, and go to a local shop. Don't be shy. Ask questions. Smoking a pipe is very calming to me. It slows down my OCD. It gives my hands something to do while smoking. Cigar smoking is faster than a pipe. I still enjoy both. Let us know how your smoking journey goes! Have fun! |
Appreciate everyone's suggestions so far. I've only smoked a few real cigars and I really like them. My favorite method of smoking is pipe smoking. It's the most relaxing and meditative for me.
@ Starbuck You have to light a pipe quite a few times to get through a bowl whereas with cigars i've only had to do one good light at the beginning. You can set a pipe down for a longer time i feel without affecting the flavor too much. With both cigars and pipes you shouldn't smoke them too fast because the flavor will be off and you can get ill from too much nicotine. If you smoke a pipe too hot you could get tongue bite. For a pipe, it is good to have a pipe tool ( a small metal thing with three parts, mostly used to tamp down on the ash) and pipe cleaners. These are the differences i can think of. If anyone is ever in the Pittsburgh area I suggest continental smoke shop for pipe needs. The owner is the best salesman i've ever met but i'm easily persuaded when it comes to spending money on tobacco products. He's very informative and friendly. |
Welcome MBD and noneoftheabove! Hope to see you more here and if you come to the reunion we will be having a HERF. :)

This week I'm treating myself to some Winston Churchill's Makkeresh and Diamond Crown Maximus (#7) as part of my "recovery" from surgery :cheesy: . For both of these you need a meal and lots of time given the length. Quote:
Addition to the pipes and cigars, I recently tried snus which is interesting. Not something I'd do all the time given that the nicotine hit is unreal! But can be handy. |
Today
I'm planning to fire up a La Gloria Cubana Series N... It came highly resommended. Also, gonna pop open a Dale's Pale Ale. Mmmmmmmm.
|
I've got a 601 Oscuro I'm seasoning for another week. Can't wait!

Interestingly enough, when I smoke I favor water or whiskey (no alcohol this week because of surgery) |
