Remember when they were called service stations instead of gas station.
You pulled up they took your money filled up the tank and washed your windshield checked your oil and tire pressure while the take was filling. I'll bet there are some folks here young enough that they never saw a service station.

Leif Garret, my first one true love... :awww:
It really is a sad story, another kid with too much fame, too early.

He was a train wreck.. he went from this...

When Leif was 17 he was driving his Porsche, drunk, and on qualudes with his best friend. He flipped the Porsche leaving his friend paralyzed for life. He did not see his friend for 20 years following the accident.

He lead a crazy life then one day decided to go see his friend. He had not yet dealt with what he did. He invited the cameras in for an episode in which he ruinites with his friend. His friend sued and received 7.1 million dollars as a result of the accident.

He said in an interview he had more sex and drugs by age 12 than most people have in a lifetime. That's a lot of sex and booze.

He seems to have cleaned up his act and made peace with himself, and this is what he looks like today

No excuse, but i imagine it's hard to be all washed up by the ripe old age of 15.

Remember when back in the 70's here in the US gas pumps were for a short time set to pump liters instead of gallons.

i remember the big metric scare and some things converted, like coke !

Then they said *oh heck that's too much work*

Canada is in metric which is actually WAY easier. When i first got here and saw the gas station sign *1.79* i said WHOA is that ever cheap!

I remember me and my brothers begging our parents to let us see the "scenes from next week's episode" when they were sending us off to bed for the night...every time I hear that on TV now it makes me smile...

What about the theme song for Beverly Hillbillies? I loved that show. Remember Miss Jane? I remember the first time I saw her, the actress at a gay bar in Southern California. I did not know she was a lesbian. Rumor had it she was friends with the owner of the bar, a lesbian softball coach.

Here are the lyrics:

Come listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was shootin' at some food,
And up from the ground came a bubblin' crude.
Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.

Well the first thing you know ol' Jed's a millionaire,
His kinfolk said, 'Jed, move away from there!'
They said, 'Californy is the place you oughtta be.'
So, they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.
Hills, that is, Swimmin' pools, movie stars.

Y'all come back now, y'hear?

The theme was it's own song (by the Ventures) :)

But I don't stop there-I found the original series on MeTV, and look forward to my fix every night.

Did anyone else know that the actor who played Chin Ho was in fact a retired police officer?

When some folks had bubble lights on their xmas tree. The bulb would heat up the colored water and it would bubble in the colored lights , it was pretty cool.
