Planet of the Humans April 21, 2020 YouTube
Michael Moore Presents: Planet of the Humans | Full Documentary | Directed by Jeff Gibbs
Michael Moore presents Planet of the Humans, a documentary that dares to say what no one else will this Earth Day — that we are losing the battle to stop climate change on planet earth because we are following leaders who have taken us down the wrong road — selling out the green movement to wealthy interests and corporate America. This film is the wake-up call to the reality we are afraid to face: that in the midst of a human-caused extinction event, the environmental movement’s answer is to push for techno-fixes and band-aids. It's too little, too late. Removed from the debate is the only thing that MIGHT save us: getting a grip on our out-of-control human presence and consumption. Why is this not THE issue? Because that would be bad for profits, bad for business. Have we environmentalists fallen for illusions, “green” illusions, that are anything but green, because we’re scared that this is the end—and we’ve pinned all our hopes on biomass, wind turbines, and electric cars? No amount of batteries are going to save us, warns director Jeff Gibbs (lifelong environmentalist and co-producer of “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “Bowling for Columbine"). This urgent, must-see movie, a full-frontal assault on our sacred cows, is guaranteed to generate anger, debate, and, hopefully, a willingness to see our survival in a new way—before it’s too late. Featuring: Al Gore, Bill McKibben, Richard Branson, Robert F Kennedy Jr., Michael Bloomberg, Van Jones, Vinod Khosla, Koch Brothers, Vandana Shiva, General Motors, 350.org, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sierra Club, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Nature Conservancy, Elon Musk, Tesla. Music by: Radiohead, King Crimson, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Blank & Jones, If These Trees Could Talk, Valentina Lisitsa, Culprit 1, Patrick O’hearn, The Torquays, Nigel Stanford, and many more. |

Wolf Hall (2015)
I am currently watching Wolf Hall, a 2015 BBC release (available also thru Prime Video - Amazon.com).
I have finished 3 of the 6 episodes, and I can't say enough about this excellent TV mini-series. There were so many scenes that I will always remember, like images that recall some of Vermeer's paintings, only these are in motion. :) The acting is excellent, the dialogue, the choreography, the music, the costumes, everything, and the story (so quiet and gentle) records an extraordinarily intense time in British Tudor history. Well worth watching! "After the downfall of Cardinal Wolsey, his secretary, Thomas Cromwell, finds himself amongst the treachery and intrigue of King Henry VIII's court and soon becomes a close advisor to the King, a role fraught with danger." This series is an extraordinary accurate historical rendering of the life of Thomas Cromwell - an adaptation of the first two books (of the trilogy of Thomas Cromwell's life) by Hilary Mantel (who won Bookers for both books). The third book in the series has just came out (2020), and I now have all three books stored on my Kobo... which I am also reading. :) In a most excellent documentary on Hilary Mantel, where she discusses her personal life, her books, etc., she talks about how Thomas Cromwell contributed to "the Reformation, in giving the Bible in English to the people, and establishing Parliament as a ruling force". I saw this documentary on TV, but it is available on YouTube (Hilary Mantel: Return to Wolf Hall (2020): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDG-N5Z4POU As an aside, from Wikipedia: "During her twenties, Mantel had a debilitating and painful illness. She was initially diagnosed with a psychiatric illness, hospitalised, and treated with antipsychotic drugs, which reportedly produced psychotic symptoms. In consequence, Mantel refrained from seeking help from doctors for some years. Finally, in Botswana and desperate, she consulted a medical textbook and realised she was probably suffering from a severe form of endometriosis, a diagnosis confirmed by doctors in London. The condition and necessary surgery left her unable to have children and continued to disrupt her life. Continued treatment by steroids caused weight gain and radically changed her appearance." https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/640x360/p085rr1y.jpg |

Wolf Hall (2019) addendum
Well, I just binged watched the last three episodes, and WOW, omg, I am speechless, it was so good. I can't wait until the BBC does the adaptation of Mantel's last book in her Thomas Cromwell trilogy, The Mirror and the Light (2020). But then again, I have it on my Kobo, and it is looking like I may read it before any adaptation is done.

Thanks for spreading the news! |
Watched S3E3 of Killing Eve on Sling for free. Unfortunately, I think the emphasis is on who is being killed instead of how they're dying. It's not as posh as it was and I wonder if my assessment is swayed by that. Whatever the case, I'm still enjoying it.
Also watched E4 of Defending Jacob on Apple TV and think I'd enjoy the book more than the series, but am sticking with it to the end. |
Forgot to say its on netflix

The Eddy is an French–American musical drama television miniseries, set in Paris. The first two episodes are directed by Damien Chazelle and written by Jack Thorne. Original music is written by Glen Ballard and Randy Kerber. The series consists of dialogue mainly in English, though French, Arabic and Polish are also featured. The first season consists of eight episodes and was released on Netflix on May 8, 2020. Enjoyable first episode about a jazz club, good music. |
Last night I watched Killing Eve's mother's day episode (Sling), Low Winter Sun (Pluto) and Black Card Revoked (Pluto by way of BET).
There was an underlying sadness to last night's episode of Killing Eve, but still it was good and smartly written, as usual. Low Winter Sun was a repeat for me. Good but tough to watch. Black Card Revoked was funny as usual. |
UPLOAD - AMAZON PRIME
Started watching this last week.
The concept of it is something you can see happening in years ahead. You have all your memories and life details uploaded when you die, to then give yourself your own afterlife so to speak via a multi national company of course. Where it gets interesting is that what money you have will determine the level of comfort you have in this software generated afterlife So it makes it rather an interesting thing to see what it could be like. Personally i don't think I would want to go for it. My partner however says she would. Take a look and tell me your thoughts on it. |
Watching Little Fish with Cate Blanchett, Sam Neill, and Noni Hazlehurst on Pluto TV.
I like Blanchett and always enjoy Hazlehurst. So far it’s okay. From IMDB.com: Set in the Little Saigon district outside of Sydney, a woman (Blanchett) trying to escape her past becomes embroiled in a drug deal. |
I found Once Upon a Time. I remember starting to watch the series when it came out but then I think I just forgot about it. They did an excellent job of weaving the fairy tales together.
Charming is kind of a douche in the real world. |
Dead to Me on Netflix.....finally season 2!
|
Ozark..just finished and I loved the ending!
Dead to Me..catching up, season 2 Better Things..catching up as well. |
"NetFlix" ( geez, it's only 7 letters and yet every time I have to type it I go into crisis mode )
I'm enjoying another one of those police procedurals that the Brits do so very well, " Scott and Bailey ". Some 16 hours into binge watching the series, I'm still not tired of the two female protagonists but I have given up hope that they will eventually "discover" each other. |

Set in the year 1832 in Yorkshire, Gentleman Jack stars Jones as landowner and industrialist Anne Lister. The series is based on the collected diaries of Lister, which contain over four million words and are written largely in secret code, documenting a lifetime of lesbian relationships. |
I just finished this series. Comes with my two thumbs up!
|
Dead to Me...finished.
Did you know Will Farrell is a producer? And again, loved the ending!!! |
I got Sling.tv with some free premium channels. Have been bingeing on ..
– Flipping 101 – Vida (started from the beginning and thoroughly enjoying it) – My Lottery Dream House – Killing Eve – Defeneding Jacob Am channel surfing right now and have landed on Godfather II for a few minutes while the beans are simmering. |
Watching _The Mandalorian_. I know, I know, I've already seen it, but it's just So Good! (Disney+)
Also watching _Kim's Convenience_, a Canadian sitcom about a Korean-Canadian family that owns a convenience store. It's interesting and pretty funny. (Netflix) Just finished _Aggretsuko_, a josei-type anime about a red bear (I think) who lives in the big city and is looking for love. Also, her passion is singing death metal karaoke. It's really funny and cute, and the bite-sized 15 minute episodes are easy to digest. I really recommend you give this one a try, if you're the rom-com type. |
Last night I watched the 1st episode of Mrs. American
Mrs. America tells the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly, aka “the sweetheart of the silent majority.” Through the eyes of the women of the era – both Schlafly and second wave feminists Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Bella Abzug and Jill Ruckelshaus – the series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted the political landscape. I was not as politically involved back then as I am now, so even tho I lived thru all that, I am playing catch up I guess one could say. |
I feel like this is more of a confession but.....
One of my clients is heavy into Heartland ( on Netflix) and I’ve found myself......liking it . If/when I ever get some free time.....I may have to watch it. |
