most recent "series" addictions have been BBC detective type shows or period pieces or Canadian or Aussie featuring strong female leads... I hates it when they are over and I am left wanting more...

Rosemary and Thyme
The Bomb Girls
Call the Midwife
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries ( unfortunately only one episode; features Diana Rigg... yum)

In between I throw in a couple horror type flicks:
Oculus, The Taking of Deborah Logan, Dark Skies

and some light films:
House of Magic, Journey to the West, All Hail King Julien

Wentworth is on the list as is Broadchurch

You can say that again.

Has anybody seen the Christmas Special with Jon Hamm?

The Fall, with Gillian Anderson.

Intense, well-written, acted and directed BBC production.

Insightful review, entitled "The most feminist show on television" on The Atlantic.

Season 2 now streaming on Netflix.

I read in yesterday's edition of The New York Times, front page of the Weekend Arts section, that Leonardo DiCaprio produced an Netflix documentary, titled "Virunga" .... the ad for the film stated:: "Consider this. Only 800 Mountain Gorillas remain in the world."

I want to watch this documentary.

The film has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

I second The Fall. Which reminds me of Jaime Dornan, which reminds me of the show Once. It's surprisingly good and is based around strong female characters.

I just finished The Assets. I love spy stuff.

Jamie Dornan is also the star of 50 Shades of Gray...

I'm currently watching, "Once Upon A Time" on Netflix. It's a very interesting show!

Zimmeh, Where are you up to in Once?

Zimmeh 02-03-2015 05:18 PM

I believe I am up to episode 4 from Season 1.

I really liked seasons 1 & 2 but I'm getting a little bored in season 3. My niece says that season 4 has the Frozen characters (I haven't seen the movie) and is the best season yet - though she is a Frozen fan. Let me know how you like it as it continues. Have you watched Arrow? People love that too - but I'm reluctant because, unlike Once, it doesn't seem to have strong female leads and I'm not a comic book fan.

the more posts I read here, the more I realise that we Canadian Netflix subscribers get short-changed with way fewer choices and longer wait times for releases.

Zimmeh 02-04-2015 02:52 PM

Watching the Badder Grandma movie.

I wonder if you have stuff we don't have too. The best Canadian show I ever watched on Netflix is Intelligence but I don't think it's on the U.S. Netflix anymore.

Really good new series on Netflix.

Great cast of actors. Starts slow, but very worth sticking with it. By the end of the second episode, we were hooked.

13 episodes streaming.

But when the black sheep son comes home for the 45th anniversary of his parents' hotel, he threatens to expose the Rayburns' dark secrets and shameful past, pushing his siblings to the limits of family loyalty.

Starring:Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, Sissy Spacek, Sam Shepard
Creators:Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman, Glenn Kessler
Genres: TV Shows, TV Dramas, TV Mysteries

This one is an old favorite of mine. Definitely second that motion.

Last night I watched not a movie, but Russel Brand's stand up special called Messiah Complex. I always sorta liked him, but never really watched his comedy. OMFG it was AMAZING! I rarely laugh out loud when I watch something alone, even if it's really funny, but I was totally giggling in my room.
