Laerkin 08-04-2010 07:04 AM

  • I opt for laughter in life and really try not to take myself too seriously (life is too short for that crap).
  • I think compassion and education are the two salves that will heal the world, if only we'd give them a chance.
  • I love those posh, expensive, not-enough-food, Michelin starred restaurants...I try to visit a few new ones each year and I always learn something new about food and flavors I'd never imagined. Then I try to recreate them at home (I will be honest and admit my failures slighty outweight my successes :| )
  • I'm graceful when I dance, but the rest of the time I'm somewhat clumsy. Walls and I meet too often. Gravity and I disagree frequently. It's when I catch myself apologizing to the wall that I know I'm having a bad day. LOL.
  • My largest phobia in life is needles. My therapist and I are working very hard at helping me overcome it as it's paralyzed me for my entire life and my health suffers for it. So yeah...needles and Laerkin = tears, but I'm trying to get better.

jenny 08-05-2010 06:16 AM

• I love, love, love rollercoasters. LOVE. Which, I realize, is in contradiction to my fear of heights. *shrugs*

• I hate trying things on in stores, so I usually just buy stuff then return it if it doesn't fit.

• My house is generally neat as a pin, but my office looks like a disaster area.

• I wear a pink shirt to work every Tuesday. Actually, everyone who works with me wears a pink shirt on Tuesdays. It's always fun to see the customers looking around, puzzled...

• I love playing card games.

FeminineAllure 08-05-2010 10:07 AM

4. I punched out a guy in the cafeteria cause he grabbed my friend Michael's ass while calling him a "fairy"

  • I know secrets that I'll never tell

Kätzchen 08-05-2010 11:04 PM

- I like to wander on long walks out in the woods

- I love sweaters of all kinds, but mostly I like sweaters that have either a crew neck or a deep plunging v-neck; and in shades of white, blue, charcoal grey or black as a solid color or with varying shades of colors - Like I have a cashmere sweater in varying shades of purples, greys and blues and it's beautiful!

- I love to eat anything that has dates, coconuts and walnuts!
Add chocolate to it and I'm hooked for life! *yum*

- I bought some pomegranate/tangerine sherbert today (pineapple sherbert is my favorite) and it tastes absoluely yummy!

- I love to go for long bicycle rides: I always like the way I feel so free when I'm doing that...

Abigail Crabby 08-05-2010 11:24 PM

I can't go a day without caffiene :fastdraq:.
I prefer dark chocolate - but will succumb to any chocolatey goodness :chocolate:

I think bald heads are hot ;)

Despite any adversity I've endured, I still believe in the goodness of humanity.

I have a small collection of rubber ducks :rubberducky:

Gemme 08-06-2010 02:32 AM

I like hummus...or at least roasted red pepper hummus. This, even *I* didn't know.

*mutters something about stupid changing taste buds*

I have had my last Wednesday and Thursday nights at my current job.

My bedroom curtains are a sheer ocean blue.

My favorite hair scrunchy is leopard print.

I have a LOT to do in the next 8 days.

dixie 08-06-2010 03:20 AM

Growing up in my house we got used to having a FULL breakfast on the table by 2:30am. (Cereal was only for snacking in my house.)

I have to re-organize things every so often. (Even my farmville, etc has to be moved around and completely redone every other week at the least...lol)

My mother made sure that I could read at high school level by the time I went into kindergarten. (And dad made sure I had finished the complete works of Shakespeare by 3rd grade...lol)

I am a flea market/yard sale/thrift store fanatic.

I suck royally at math, and some days have trouble adding 2+2...LOL

Jesse 08-06-2010 10:29 AM

I will only eat steak if it is still sizzling from the grill. Once it starts cooling down you can forget about me eating it.

I cannot stand for a wet dishrag to be left wadded up in the bottom of the sink. It needs to be rinsed out good, squeezed out then draped to dry.

I only drink organic milk

I use Mentadent toothpaste

I am left handed, but write with my right hand.

Kätzchen 08-06-2010 03:37 PM

- I always have a million-squillion back-up plans in case my current plan of the moment isn't working out the way I would like to see it play out.

- I tend to have a curiousity driven side to my personality: I'm always wondering and daydreaming and trying to come up with a feasible plan of action.

- I don't give two flying flips if I ever see a doctor for care or treatment or have health insurance: I've been without medical care for so long that I believe that the alternative treatments I find to help myself are working just fine (even if society doesn't think it's proper- I'm gonna do what I have to do to take care of me and so far, it's working just fine; it's about quality of life issues for me, seriously).

- It doesn't matter to me what type of shoes I wear because I'm pretty talented at making my feet take me wherever I need to go and I usually end up where I'm supposed to be anyway, LOL!

- I don't think of myself as a too bright or too intellectual or too smart for my own good: I do possess some talent, some intuitive intellect but for the most part, I tend to take life slowly and what I don't understand and am not able to find solutions (for current dilemmas), I do tend to defer to alternative knowledge sources to help me figure out what to do next - if that makes sense at all.

Duchess 08-06-2010 07:31 PM

Laerkin 08-06-2010 08:09 PM

I think traveling alone for long trips is one of the most liberating and empowering experiences a person can have.

I hate anything bubble gum flavored.

I'm seriously allergic to East Coast mosquitoes which limits what I can do outdoors in the spring and summer. (Yes, they're different than West Coast mosquitoes like the ones I grew up with.)

I've been written up at work for laughing too loud (god forbid I have too much fun)!

I cry whenever I think about or see homeless pets, even if I'm at a no-kill adoption center...I want to save them all and will cry myself to sleep over it.

Jet 08-08-2010 12:06 AM

I hate clowns (except for Emmet Kelly)
I like rainy nights in Georgia
I used to collect Stephen King in hardback (and since tossed them)
German wines are my favorites
I once had a 13 hour phone conversation

Soft*Silver 08-08-2010 01:41 AM

I am suspicious about almost everyone. I never was this way until recently. Before, I trusted long before I should have. This resulted in my suspiciousness.

The one person in my life that I will have to bare my soul and all my sins to, my AA sponsor, I had no suspicions about. She is the only person in the last few years that I instantly trusted. Goddess spoke. I listened.

I abuse the inside of my car. I have hauled wet plants on my leather seats. Sick dogs have thrown up on them. All my fast food wrappers (I rarely eat FF but when I do...) are on the back floor and all my pop cans are on the front floor.

I had a dream about a mirror, that when you look into it, it can morph your face into an animals face. It is intended for children to play with. I even have the design details and how it works given to me in the dream. Isnt this odd and wild and fun?

I sleep on my couch because my old dog can no longer climb the stairs. She cries when I have made her do this. She will never be asked to do it again. I will sleep downstairs until she passes...

~ I have a bad habit of biting the insides of my lips when I'm stressed...

~ I can't seem to throw away my old pocket calendars when I get a new one... I have several years' worth in my desk drawer, and although I'm not sure why I'd ever need to reference them, I can't bring myself to toss 'em.

~ I'm completely, totally fascinated by "Lockup" and other prison documentaries.

~ I'm an incessant worrier.

~ I have a chip in one of my front teeth that, for years now, I've pondered having fixed.

  3. I have no middle name legally-yet.
  4. I cannot pass up creme brulee on a dessert menu.

1. I grew up on a farm in the Arkansas Delta and learned to drive a tractor, combine, and cotton picker at the age most kids learn to ride a bike.

2. I frequently play air drums while driving.

3. I was paid money to be in a "Little Miss" pageant when I was 7 and kept the audience laughing with my unordinary answers to the pageant questions.

4. I enjoy taking out the trash.

5. When I go shopping, I find myself organizing store shelves and racks. If someone with me puts something back where it doesn't belong, I'll have to return it to it's proper place even if it's all the way across the store.

Enchantress 08-11-2010 01:08 AM

Tidbits of fluff.

I love to act out mini dramas in the shower (I play all the roles of course and always get nominated for the Oscar)

I am funny when I'm upset. But if I try to be funny, it always falls flat (read: people look at me as if I have three heads)

I dislike crowds and being watched, however I have a background in Training (with a speciality in giving speeches and lectures in front of lot's 'O' people)

I have a stuffed hippo named Hubble Gardner and a stuffed pink pig that wears a tutu and a tiara named Charlotte York.

I sometimes wish I was Ballerina Barbie (don't judge).

Gemme 08-11-2010 01:15 AM

My computer is trans. I named her Edgar, after the computer in Electric Dreams, but she has since proven to me that she's a Bessie.

I've got awesome friends!

I haven't packed one box, officially, yet.

I'll be donating lots of goodies to my local battered women's shelter this week. :)

Tomorrow, I'm selling an item I really don't want to sell. *sadness*

violaine 08-11-2010 01:57 AM

i am missing someone fiercely at the moment; love garlic and french herbs; made a vegan fresh peach crostini tonight; wearing baby blue; & seeing stars [on a handbag].

2. I hate working in the pediatric ER and will try to trade out of it everytime I have to work it.
3. I'm struggling with something in my life right now that has to do with letting go of a relationship.
4. I JUST got cable yesterday and now all I wanna do is watch TV!
5. I pray everyday.

Soft*Silver 08-11-2010 12:13 PM

I believe the real magic of Harry Potter is that it has opened the minds of a few generations of humans to see past the rule of Christianity as one of the major religions of the east and believe in the next few decades we will see a huge replenishment of old religions again. I also believe this was not coincidence...

I believe that the ebb and flow of waves is one of the most spiritually cleansing sounds for humans. I believe it has to do with placental memories as well as evolutionary memories as original sea creatures...

I believe Sarah Pallin could be brought to her knees and made to lick boots....and god, I want to be there or be in those boots...

I am getting ready to hatch a new life plan. I have been sitting on this baby for about two years and by god, I cant wait to see what it is going to look like so I can hunt the daddy down...

I am going to buy a gun...this has nothing to do with any of the above.

socialjustice_fsu 08-11-2010 07:40 PM

Moving is in my top 5 things of what I detest.
My two cats have become my 'cheering section' during this move.
I know now more than ever things are not important to acquire in life ~ memories are.
I am learning that HOME is where you feel peace when you walk in the door. To live otherwise is unsettling.
I have always enjoyed apartment/condo life. I am starting over and it just feels right after building a house 12 years ago on a huge piece of land. A country girl, I am not.

  1. If I read something technical or logical once, I have a weirdly incredible memory. I can remember screens and keyboard shortcuts in software programs from 10 years ago. Names and faces however, not so much. I have been known to see someone I spent a full day with a couple of years ago and would swear to you that I had never seen them before in my life. It's really quite embarrassing.
  2. I once had a job where I took my cat with me to work every day. She usually slept out in the main area where there was a patch of sun and everybody would pass by. I was secretly a little jealous that she had more friends there than I did.
  3. I count 5 things before I leave the house every morning. Keys, wallet, phone, glasses, ring. If I don't, I will invariably leave without one of them.
  4. My mother told me that, as a kid, I would explore everything with my mouth. (imagine that, heh.) I actually believe that it's the secret to my great immune system. However, among the now less desireable kidfoods: peat moss, cat food, my brother's pet turtle and Ivory soap. I still kinda like the taste of the soap.
  5. I work in technology for startups in the Silicon Valley. My degree is in Physical Education. I've never had any formal technical training, but thank God for #1 above.

~ I don't like odd numbers. (Except for prime numbers, but that's another story entirely.) In fact, since I was three years old, I've only lived in even numbered houses, and all of the house numbers (I've lived at six different addresses since then) have been divisible by four. Four, it so happens, is my favorite number.

~ I once went on a blind date with a rabbi. I always thought it would make a great short story... "The Rabbi and the Atheist." (Okay, so I'm more agnostic than atheist. Still.)

~ Until puberty, my eyes were bright blue. During puberty, my eyes changed to green, and for most of my adult life have been a very deep shade of green. Since perimenopause, my eyes have changed again, and now vacillate between green and blue.

~ During my nursing career, I witnessed literally hundreds of births, and I got teary at every single one of them.

~ Years ago, one of my employees fell down the stairs that go into the basement of my office, and her foot went through the wall. (Yes, she went to the hospital. No, she didn't sue me.) To this day, I keep a row of boxes of paper against that wall, so if anyone falls down the stairs again, at least I won't need to patch another hole in the wall.
