One SF player I quite like is Aubrey Huff. He is solid and incredibly dedicated to the game. What is the term when a player stands at the fence for the whole game? I can't remember. But he impresses me. Alot of players do, but he has some level of "concentration" that I don't often see on others.

I can't help but cheer for the Jays. Even when they get their ass handed to them like the other night. Ahhh I look back fondly when Canada had more than just one team...

I also wish there were two Canadian teams- just added so much more to the whole league. The Jays will be back in full force!!

Huff is really a devoted "team" player. Yes, he is always watching what is going on- doesn't matter if he starts or not. He's one of those players that I think of in those fields of dreams.

I still smile when I see an Expos hat or jacket. I know they were transferred, but still. :canadian: (hand over heart) raise a glass in memory:wine:

My Tigers are rolling through September. They are looking strong going in to the playoffs. I still remember the excitement of making the World Series in 2006, even though we lost. I can't wait for the playoffs!

wolfbittenpoet 09-08-2011 05:56 PM

Well with the exception of BJ Upton my boys are trying. In theory if both the sox and yankees melt down we could get a playoff spot. I'm hopeful but isn't every fan.
My minor league dunedin jays are in playoffs right now. if we win tonight we'll go to state finals.

Starbuck 09-08-2011 10:41 PM

What the hell?! The Red Sox were flying through the season like a humming bird darting around, giving the Yankees what for, and now they're spiraling thanks to their bullpen, denying Tim Wakefield his 200th win. I had hope for this season, much like last season but I'm getting cramps of years gone by when the Sox just fall apart at the end of the season. Come on guys, dust yourself off and go get those Yankees!

Kobi 09-09-2011 08:39 AM

BoSox are now 2-6 for September. Guess the usual August meltdown waited until September this year.

Hopefully they pull it together again soon, cuz September is a brutal schedule against other division rivals that could make even a wildcard berth difficult.

Be nice if Francona would stop shooting them in the foot too. I know he has to make do with a less than ideal pitching staff at this point but he needs to bring out the hook a lot sooner for those who just dont have it on a particular night.

AtLast 09-09-2011 12:20 PM

Yeah- what the hell is going on with the Red Sox?

Ugh... my Giants are foundering too- I don't know if they can come back from an awful August. And AZ is just plain hot out here in the West.

Oh, yeah, Hack, the Tigers are very strong- I see a Tigers v Phillies World Series as a big possibility.

But... there can always be spoilers in the play-offs that explode.... some of the possible wildcard teams might get some good mojo going.

This time of the season is intense and exciting!! Love it!!

Starbuck 09-10-2011 12:32 AM

The Sox lost again today and Youk flew back to Boston for an MRI on his left hip, apparently he's been gimping around on it for a few days. That's the last thing we need...another injured player! Dustin Pedroia, Big Papi, and Jacoby Ellsbury can't carry the team alone.

I know Texas is hot right now, has been all season long. They were a wild card for the ALDS last year and it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them again this year. They're young, healthy, and strong as a team and Ron Washinton is a great manager.

Yup, injuries!

Another SF loss yesterday that just sucked! Should not have lost it- the guys are just not getting RBI's and leave too many on base. Even with some pop going on with our bats, there are lost opportunities. I also just don't see the team working as a team like was true for the first 4 months of the season and of course, last year. Somethjing in terms of "heart" is missing.

If the Giants don't take this series, LA is a real threat to take us out of a wildcard for the playoffs and LA has only recently come to life. Now, I have to give kudos to LA's Kershaw- some kind of young pitcher! They have a gem in him.

It is so frustrating to see Tim Lincecum's W-L record at 12-13 because it just does not reconcile with his performance this season- he has had so little run support and most of the time, been brilliant. That is why he is a 2 time Cy Young recipient! I can think of 10 of his starts this year in which he should of had a win- where he goes to the 7th or 8th with a lead (usually only 1 run) and our offense has just not given him some insurance and then when a reliever or a closer comes in, the other team goes ahead- by one run and wins!! With Wilson being out for 3 weeks now, the closing has been a mess! Also, he is such a leader- but he is talking the guys up in the dig-out while hurt. But, I think his not going out there has some kind of psychological block going on.

Butr the lack of spirit and sync of the team is what is bothering me the most. And now, Stewart is out with a foot injury! They will need another catcher- damn, the absence of Posey keeps showing its ugly head.

OK, the Giants and the Red Sox have got to get their game going!!

Yanks just brought Jorgie boy in!! First time this year he's catching! 40 years old!

Hip hip Jorge!

AtLast 09-11-2011 11:25 PM

SF won today!!! And brought in 8 runs! I can't believe it. They probably can't believe it.

The BoSox skid continues. We were just swept by those pesky Rays. Have now lost 5 in a row and 9 of the last 11.

Now are 3.5 behind the Yanks. And our lead in the wildcard is 3.5 ahead of the Rays.

We have a couple of games with Toronto coming up - always a potential nightmare. And then 4 more with the Rays to end the week. :seeingstars:

The hitting has been varying from non-existent to slamming but the pitching has been atrocious. The starting pitching has gone 5 innings or less in 9 of the last 11 games. Not that their replacements have faired any better.

And so the angst of being a Red Sox fan continues.

Who wound up the Tigers? They are playing super ball these days.

Yes, Detroit is playing some great baseball. I have been interested in their progress since watching them in interleague play vs. my Giants.

What youy are feeling about the Red Sox is so like what I am going through with SF. Although, I think the Red Sox can pick up the pieces at this point.

With as hot as AZ is right now in our conference, and SF just not having any offensive consistency, I am having a hell of a time believing we will get to the post season. My guess is that this week, the math will determine this. But, I will watch every last game and stick with my guys as I have since
1958. My team, is my team!

I am looking foreward to what I think will be a fantastic post-season in the game. Have to see if my predictions come true- right now the Phillies & Tigers just seem like they are on their way to the WS. But, I can't count out the Dbacks as a major contender in the NL. They have some big time talent and heart going on out here in the West.

If the BoSox shoot themselves in the foot, I would love to see the Tigers in the WS. I have always had a fondness for them since the Denny McLain, Al Kaline, Kirk Gibson eras.

Didnt realize Gibson is the manager of the Dbacks. He is one tough competitor.

Yup- Gibson is tough competitor! He is getting a lot of press out here right now and how he has brought AZ to where it is.

I hope the BoSox just get it going again- and SF!! They won again yesterday and another 8 run game for them. Amazing- all season they have won on maybe 2 run leads when winning. Been all bullpen. Who kows, they might pull off getting in the play-offs, but this is not last year's team. But the Dbacks keep on winning.

Kobi 09-14-2011 06:58 AM

Wakefield finally got his 200th win! Now maybe he can retired before his aarp application arrives.

AtLast 09-15-2011 06:51 AM

I wish SL and Atlanta would start losing! SF has been winning and could make the wild card birth if they would just lose! AZ, too!

Dominique 09-15-2011 07:52 AM

Yesterday we lost to the Cardnials. This is officially our 19th straight loosing season. Managements comment, This is improvement, it took until mid September.

Somehow, I missed something with that comment. We have set the record for the worst team record EVER. I could have done with out the mid September comment.

There were maybe 4,000 fans at the game. Game over.....we all left silently. Sad, just plain sad.
