It's snowing in New England! Already an inch on the ground here. It will be nice and pretty tomorrow... and should be all melted and gone by the evening so I can safely drive back home. Double score.

Assembling the aluminum tree that was my beloved Granny's, and which was the tree I remember from my first Christmases at her house back in the very early 60's, so that my grandchildren could have a Christmas tree in this year of so many upheavals for them, since they just finally moved out of my house with my ex and their mom, who couldn't be bothered finding even just the pull-out-of-the-box-and-it's-done tree for them. So it was first out of frustration that I decided to put this up -- me, who is religiously Jewish though culturally Christian, celebrating this as a secular holiday with Pagan roots -- but now it's with joy: I'm finally back in my home, after months of being disconnected or absent from it. My beloved grandchildren will be here tomorrow to celebrate with me under a tree that my gifts were under at their great-great-grandmother's house over 50 years ago. I have almost two weeks now to get my house in order and reclaim my life in this house. Despite all of its challenges, life is GOOD.

Standing in the kitchen, listening to Bear mumble about his recipe.... And looks up and at me... We both look down.

Her royal highness, the holy terror, Peppa, is howling her protest that she was in bed.

Gaige and I "opening" a few gifts via Skype...Merry Christmas Eve...Indeed. In a few weeks, we'll be opening gifts again here in Portland...YAY!!!!

:) <----Imagine this as a huge, humungous smile....

Wrapping gifts
Mom's carrying on about the garlic, pecans I made for her
Spending quality time with the people who are precious to me
a 3 hour nap
text messages from a new friend
listening to someone banter back and forth with my Dad, she cuts him to the quick.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve. GHD's cousins stopped by for a visit, which was great, and dinner was delicious. Our heat is on the fritz, so we had to light a fire in the fireplace. It looked so beautiful, with the decorations on the mantle, the stockings hanging, and a fire blazing away. I got a laugh because my son, who is disabled and, at 13, STILL believes in Santa, had a million questions about HOW Santa was going to be able to deliver the presents. If we have a fire, how is he going to be able to come down the chimney?? Because the living room is now the warmest room in the house, that is where my son is sleeping....but that is also where the tree is. So, GHD and I just had to be VERY quiet Santas and put all the gifts under the tree. It made it that much more fun. What a wonderful night!

Christmas and with it the return of a childlike wonder and joy upon receipt of a most unexpected, beautiful gift!

What brought me joy....

the scene: My apt. in the woods of dutchess county, ny, a 3 bay window that looks out into a forest...

action: waking up in the dark, sitting on my couch with coffee in hand and watching as the light of the approaching Christmas morning reveals the snow from the night before on the branches of the trees and hearing the sounds of cardinals singing in the background.

I truly am lucky to be alive!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Watching little ones open up gifts. Best Christmas preset ever.

Not having to work today after working 7 days
Peaceful quiet with no one around but the rescues
A simple dinner will be made for just me as I know some of my rescues will sit begging as I eat later

Just being alive another year to enjoy life, experience love, and having wonderful friends and chosen family here on the Planet!
My rescued dachshund (from 2005) & I are enjoying our day...she is rotten....chuckles..
I am headed to shower then off to enjoy Chinese buffet & sushi (AYCE).
Smiles at all the warm wishes I get from texts...

Our home is abuzz with the laughter and giggles that come from one adult muttering about the castle and the train tracks that are being put together, the child that is making her ponies dance and generally get in the way of said adult and the other adult who has managed to get out of all the 'put it together' duties.

Good times.

Seeing the look of awe on the Moopster's face when her Mom gave her the new HD tv she got her for Christmas :)

JustLovelyJenn 12-25-2012 12:29 PM

This moment, right here... Just me and my kids, watching them enjoy all the new things they got for Christmas and just staying out of their way.... they are my joy, every day!

Stumbling out of bed. Going outside. Him immediately giving me his coat and zipping it up. Beater with frosting on it offered, and no bake cookies. Texts received. Homemade cinnamon rolls and eggs florentine.

The gift from my niece Carly. She is blind and profoundly mentally challenged. She goes to a "special" school. Her school has a gift shop that the kids get to go and pick out xmas gifts for their family. The teacher has a list of names for each student and one by one they go to the gift store and chose the gift they want to give the people on their lists. This year for me she choose a paper weight. A white carved stone with a hummingbird painted on it. It is so cool !!!! I love hummingbirds. I always wonder what makes her chose the gifts she does. It is my favorite gift I received this year !!!!!!!!!
It looks awesome on my desk!!! Everytime I look at it , it makes me smile.

She did...

Waking up, with the love of my life.

It was just us as the house was still quiet.

She handed me a box. i unwrapped it.

Inside.. a beautiful gold charm bracelet (always wanted one) with two charms to start me off.

A lock/key

An anchor.

How symbolic, thoughtful, and awesome it feels on my wrist, right beside my solid silver bracecuff.

:awww:

Even thought the other gifts were amazing, this is by far the most special thing ever.

Spending the day with my family...nothing like a 2 yr old to really bring Christmas alive...she is so rotten, you can smell her coming.

Kind words and gestures of kindness

Christmas day coming to a close, brings me joy, because it means the closing of 2012 is near and a new year is on the way and with that comes the possibility of new adventures.

Having an ole friend home for the holidays has brought me joy, we've had a blast the past 4 days.

Teaching my daughter how to embroider a pillowcase. Like my mother used to do a lot of handsewing, so I am getting back to it and I wanted something to share with a sometimes surly teenager. It was so fun :).
