Talked to an older gentleman yesterday who said his first car was a "stovebolt 38." That's the first time I ever heard anyone refer to an old Chevy as a "stovebolt," which he explained to me was the slang back in his youth. Here's a Chevy 38 like he used to have... I asked him what the model name was before I looked it up, and he grinned at me, saying, "It's just a Chevy 38, dear. It'll be the only one." He said his was the fastest in four counties.

I'm not much of a car person but I've always envisioned myself in something like this:

My Buick Skylark. I loved her so much! Mine was silver with a red pinstripe. There had been a factory recall issue with the power windows motor and when we popped the driver's side door open, it was charred inside. She had a ton of room in the back and trunk, though. I moved several times using just her. Eventually, I ran her into the ground and her transmission went out. I couldn't go in reverse. After a couple of times of getting towed out of a parking place, I learned to get mighty creative in how I parked and entered and exited parking lots. Quote:
I drive this now, though a different color: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...28&tx=76&ty=68 |

Bufori makes modern cars that look like old 1930s vehicles... every auto is built by hand and they can produce about 300/year. Yes, please...

How did I not see this thread? It is sweeeet!. I love the Chevy's and Rivieras. When I was a teen no self respecting Low Rider would drive a Ford. Times have changed. I had a 1963 Chevy Impala, until I ran that beautfiful ride into the ground.
Now I drive a 2010 Honda CRV. I guess I have changed too. :| |

i drove an American Rambler recreationally for a while...first time i ever encountered "3 on the tree" gear shifting.
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...PGbOwTnUm2&t=1 i had one of these for a short period but it just wasn't me. it had a hidden cut off switch to the gas line the owner before me installed in case somebody stole it. i "broke down" one time when i forgot about the switch. i had it towed. http://mgbfacts.com/documents/DougPohlodMgb.jpg |
1966 olds toronado -- never owned one. just admired them. i had 4 oldsmobiles, 3 of them delta 88's. One got stolen.

Back in the day, I had a 1968 Pontiac LeMans... which was a clone of this GTO. It was baby blue with a thick, dark blue stripe running through the middle. I loved that car. 400, 4 barrel, posi rear - the gas pedal was so sensitive, if you sneezed just right, the car would accelerate. *sigh* I love me some GTOs. Late 60's preferably. http://americandreamcars.com/1968lemans031703.jpg |
I had a '68 Datsun 2000

My sister had a 1970 Buick Skylark, vinyl top. And, my brother used to race with his favorite project car similar to this one.... (but his had a better paint job...) http://www.rawhorsepower.com/MuscleC...rabber_red.jpg Ford Maverick - early 70s |
Bugatti Veyron
The Rapper Flo Rida was busted for DUI driving one of these, a Bugatti Veyron, a car with a $1.7 million sticker price, as I understand it. You could have quite a collection of really cool cars for that. Unless you really need a 1000 hp W16 (think two V8's welded together). 'cause I'd buy a Z06 Corvette, a Shelby Mustang, a Laguna Seca Boss 302 Mustang, a Porsche 911 GT3, a John Cooper Works MINI, a Lotus Elise, so many cool cars, so little time!

how did I miss this thread?

Yeah buddy....thats why I'm putting gas into it* lol Made by Mercedes, and called Smart for a reason. It's a joy to drive. There are only 42 dealerships in the US....many states don't have a dealership, so thats why the car turns heads. Last year, year ending 2010, 40,000 were sold. Mercedes does zero marketing of the car....it sells itself. I'm lucky, as I have a dealership in my town. |
http://www.valiant.org/photos/1962-v200.jpg This was my first love, except mine was black and shone like a crystal clear lake. Her name was Violet -She had a cigar lighter, the finest leatherette bench seating and no air conditioning. I would step out of the car after driving in the hot Australian sun, wipe the steam from my sunglasses and wring out my Tshirt and just know that I was smoooooth – Did I mention the fluffy dice that hung from her rear view mirror? ah yes twas true love |

Well, I don't drive my car much......It hasn't hit a 1000 yet. It gets 48 mpg (only holds eight gallons) I have a well equipped Passion. I'll work on the picture. It's in the box right now. (keeping it clean). |

Sweet. I'd suggest changing the oil once a year even if you don't hit the 3,000-5,000 interval change (not assuming you wouldn't have heard that before...I just hadn't until a few years ago). What color(s) is your car? "In the box", cracked me up! I had a vision of a toy box. I really do love those cars. |

My other excuse is that the SUV is 11 years old. You can use not only the "The insurance is really low on it", "The SMART car is too small to carry anything", plus "The 10 year old car isn't worth selling anyway" as excuses to make yourself feel better :) |
