There Be Dragons
I am a sailor.
Having grown up in The San Francisco Bay Area, I learned to sail and maneuver around traffic, negotiate tides and currents, harness unpredictable winds. Sailing has proven to be an apt metaphor for my life as well. Even the most experienced sailors, far more experienced than I, recognize that a previously charted course may need to be abandoned for another destination where the winds blow true. Such is also true with courses of the heart. Ancient mariners piloted with incomplete maps, the deepest and unknown seas being notated merely with "there be dragons".... Sailing the seas of romance is much like this I think; searching for clues of fair weather in the sky and in her words. I have sailed close to the shore for a long time, I know it well. But I find that the winds have shifted in a different direction now and perhaps this amazing crazy universe has chartered another course for me. I steer toward those deeper waters, willing to pilot only by the stars and the sun, by her heart and mine. I have a crush. And although I have yet to touch her, it's her hand I suddenly feel under mine at the helm. Both our faces set on the horizon. |
