‘Deeply sorry’ Lady Antebellum changes name due to associations with slavery: ‘We have been awakened’
AOL.COM 7 hrs ago

After 14 years and eight album releases, Grammy-winning country trio Lady Antebellum has officially changed its name, dropping the “Antebellum” due to “associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery.” From now on, the band will officially go by its longtime nickname, Lady A.

It's on ...

ANTS

They're back, but I've got some amazing HomeDepot bug killer and some peppermint oil (they don't stand a chance with this kind of armory).

Bring it on.

We have finally gotten a few cool days. Nice sunshine and cool breezes replace hot enough to split rocks. I hope it stays this way a few more days. My kind of weather, I can't take the heat.

The overwhelming urge to correct spelling and grammar when pro-trump people blast things on facebook that are riddled with error.

I'm restraining myself. For now.

Disappointment

My best friend, her wife and kids were supposed to join us on vacation. We"ve rented a house at the beach. She now has Covid. I'm worried because she is so incredibly ill and disappointed because our time together was taken.

Health

Got a good health report from my doctor. Lost 15 lbs since my last visit. Bones are in “great“ shape, calcium output is much better, the ultrasound picked up a pinpoint on a parathyroid, but nothing to be concerned about for now—that explains the increase in calcium output. Will keep an eye on the my calcium through blood tests. Sugar is good. Blood pressure was high but I’ve been eating more salt than usual. Will work on that.

Forgot to ask about the Gel-1 for my knee! I have to call them in a week or so and will mention it then.

My neice and her family in Oregon. She says she is 30 miles from the fire now. Some of her pictures are quite eerie. The sun being blanketed by the smoke.

My eyes are on the storms a brewing out in the Atlantic. I'll be moving and I hope they don't throw a wrench in the plans.

Enough with 2020! I'm really trying to turn it around!

Orema 09-19-2020 08:44 AM

White women pretending to be Black women.

It's interesting that many of these women would be considered unattractive White women by American beauty standards, but somewhat attractive as Black women by those same standards.

I wonder if this played a part in them deciding to deceive people and if so, by how much.

Bčsame* 09-19-2020 02:13 PM

what an absolutely beautiful day this is!

Had lunch with my bestie, saw her mom and had a wee little retail therapy. Seriously, I cant buy anything. I'm pulling together a little surprise gift that should arrive just when needed.

I've opened up the windows and enjoying the late summer breeze.

What’s on my mind?
How blessed I am to be married to the kindest, most handsome butch in the world, and how she treats me better than anyone ever has. I can’t wait to move to be with her. Two weeks in October I’ll be ecstatically happy. I’ve never been this happy.

Why my little kitten is sneezing after almost a whole round of clavamox.

How sad I am about RBG.

How glad I am that I have removed all toxic people from my life.

What should I cook today??

Orema 09-21-2020 02:42 PM

Immunization

Am going to the Walmart tomorrow to get Influenza and Hepatitis A and B shots.

The pharmacy has senior hours on Tuesdays starting at 6am. I'll be there.

We finally opened Bevi's "front of the store". Fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, turkey and ham grinders. We are just trying to get things down and learn as we go. People loved the beer battered fries. This is going to be a huge learning curve and food service is way out of my league. Ok, not the service, I can throw things in a fryer and set a timer but trying to price food fair to both the store and the customers is what I am talking about. I am sure we will do well with this endeavor but it was a little nerve wracking today.

I am sure it is unnerving here in the beginning but once you two get your footing and a feel for it, know what is fair to charge and and still be worthy of the time you put into it all, you will become comfortable with this venture. I believe it will be successful. People love to eat! Just don't make your prices too low ... take into consideration everything that is a cost to you like cooking oil, batter you put over certain things before you cook them - you know what I mean.

Best wishes on this endeavor!

My last two moves only involved one time zone and I kept commuting back-and-forth across it barely noticing.

What was harder for me was latitude because it changes the length of day so much. I guess it’s a matter of how many time zones and whether or not you’re going more side to side or up-and-down!

I need to decide if I’m going to stay here or move. If I move I think I want to move home to Michigan. I love Detroit and Michigan, but do I really want to deal with the snow?

I think the only way I could move to Michigan is if I lived in a single-story condo with an attached garage. That would solve some of the challenges I’d have.

If I move I have two pieces of furniture I must take with me. A radio and a long church pew:

https://i.postimg.cc/90bJnbh1/IMG-7548.jpg

Anything else I wouldn’t mind selling. I have a year or two before I need to decide but I need to start thinking or plotting this out now.

Maybe i could have these items shipped to me and sell everything else.

Do I really want to do a cross-country move?

No one that spends more than 20 minutes in snow and ice or is over the age of 12 'wants' to deal with it. And that creeping ice thing is, well, creepy.

No one really wants to do a cross-country move but I've done 3 of them with varying degrees of success. If you do opt to ship your super gorgeous items read the contract very, very carefully. A lot of companies will pay for damages, providing you can find someone to provide an estimate to repair and you can show them comps for the same type of product. None of them that I have dealt with have paid for missing items. Both of my mover moves have resulted in lost items. The one I did myself did not.

If it were me, I'd package them up like you are expecting them to get through an earthquake and then pay someone to load up the truck nicely for me and drive myself there. Of course, if you aren't comfortable with a dolly for your vehicle, then that might not work.

My theory is usually 'I'll know it'll get done right if I do it myself'.

Whatever option you choose, definitely bombard the shipping/moving companies with a ton of questions about their process, fees, and the 1001 what ifs that could happen. If you seem like you'll ride their butt the whole time, they may take more care with your items just to avoid problems with you.

This photo is something I pulled off the internet, but I just added a photo of my radio in the gallery. It's not nearly as pristine as this one (it needs some knobs and a good buffing) but it's very special to me and represents some wonderful times.

The photo in the gallery was made in 1948, I think. The radio worked when I bought it in 1981 but it picked up weird frequencies (Radio America). It's stopped working over the years and with many moves but I think it could be put in working condition. Though, I'm just happy with it as it is. It's a comfort for me—seeing it and knowing it's nearby soothes me.

Maybe one day I'll be ready to give it up, but not yet.

Thank you so much for this valuable information. I did a cross country move once with a major moving company and it went relatively well. Few things were missing, they were late, but we hit a snow storm in Flagstaff, we paid an arm and an leg.

I don't have an arm and a leg to give this time so I'm lookin for less expensive ways to make this happen if I decide to move. Thank you again.

Please let me hit you up in PMs if I have some questions.

Friends star Jane Sibbett talks homophobia, Donald Trump, and the queer spinoff we deserve..

The One with the Lesbian Wedding hit screens in January 1996 and marked a milestone for queer communities worldwide, the effects of which are still being felt today.

More than two decades later, fans still seek out Sibbett and her on-screen wife, Jessica Hecht, to sing their praises and thank them for their cultural impact.

Vocal advocates for Democratic candidate Joe Biden, Sibbett and Hecht are using their platform as the first queer brides of the small screen to campaign for change.

“It never occurred to me when we began Friends that we would be dealing with this here, 26 years later … and we’re having these conversations still,” Sibbett said.

“I mean certainly with Trump and his people here, it’s sliding backwards and I couldn’t even imagine that would happen … we still have a ways to go.

“My sweet [on-screen] wife and I have been doing lots of campaigning for Joe Biden because we do not need a dictator. We really actually want a president, so we’re looking for a healthier way forward.

“If you’re going to have any type of platform, it is the time to move forward because to continue on this way, with this President, we’re just going backwards to the ’50s.”

My knees are on my mind.

I have a Genu Valgum (knock-knees) and it’s become severe with arthritis. Fortunately, knee-replacement and correction surgery can solve this problem.

One of the best things I’ve done is getting the exercise bike. Already I’ve noticed a big improvement. I’ll still need surgery but I won’t do any more damage and my recovery rate shouldn’t be too bad. Will stick with the exercises and weight loss since it’s helping so much.

I just don’t know when I’ll be able to have the surgery with COVID-19. I’ll talk with my doctor about it.
