Hmmm, let's see...highlights are

Yesterday...3 stunning amethyst clusters; a small lapis slab; a piece each of green and golden calcite; a 6 lb piece of rose quartz; and a chrysanthemum stone from my favourite rock shop in Maggie. Special treats from the Chocolate Bear and some decadent chocolate cake from Pheasant Hill...

Today...a set of hiking poles, compass and beautiful knife from Mast. From 2 other shops I obtained some absolutely yummy leather items! :innocent:

I bought dinner ....because I didn't have the strength to fix it and I had a craving for a Ruben....

I bought black dress socks for $1 because the elastic is SHOT in all my others....

The other day, I decided I needed another pair of black dress pants (because I busted the zipper in my favorite pair....) paid $20.00 (I shoulda paid the $7 for a new zipper!!)

Last Friday, one of our nurses sent out an email-request for clothes and shoes for one of her patients who has nothing and is currently in the hospital.... from the information I gathered, this patient has lost everything....since I was out sick for part of last week, I emailed back to see if she'd had any responses? (We are a large company with MANY caring generous souls who go out of their way for their patients...) I was VERY surprised to learn she'd had no response....

It bugged me all day.... all cold, rainy, dreary day that makes a person thankful for the clothes on their back, warm dry shoes on their feet and their comfy home to return to after getting out of the hospital.

I kicked myself for "purging" most of my old gently-worn clothes before I moved here....

I kicked myself for going shopping for MORE of my own dress pants the other day....instead of just fixing the zipper in the old pair...

I kicked myself because at one time, I could have afforded to provide her a week or more worth of clothes....

But today, all I could afford was one day's full outfit and a pair of shoes I could never wear. :(

At least she'll have something to come home from the hospital in.... where ever home is and if she even has a home?

Maybe, from now on, every time I have the urge to go shopping for myself.... I will put aside a set dollar amount in a mini-savings for times like today?

I bought lunch at L'Orange Bleue in Soho (well worth it), then a bottle of Armagnac and one of organic gin from Holland at the Astor Place Wine Merchants, and seven sweaters/long sleeve tees at the Japanese department store on Broadway (two cotton tees, two silk and cotton sweaters, and three cotton sweaters, all v-necks (I only wear v-necks and they are hard to find), mostly black, but one caramel, one pale lavender, and one pale pink.
I need some groceries later.

Concert Tickets

For a period of time, I was the coolest mom again... I bought my son two tickets to see his favorite band in concert on June 6th: Bright Eyes. He'll have to have someone go with him that can drive, since he doesn't, or I'll end up taking him... that'll be a 6 hour drive. But hey, he's worth it and I promised him when he was younger that I would take him if they ever got close enough to drive to it. Yea! Score some points for mom!

Camisoles, lace-edged leggings, long sleeve tee, and a cotton/silk sweater at the Japanese department store in Soho, two cookbooks ("Japanese Cooking, a Simple Art" which I own and love but is in storage at the moment, "The Amish Cook's Anniversary Book", second book gathered from the local newspaper column of an Amish housewife and her daughter, I dearly loved the first one; an art catalogue : "Female Form, Paintings, Drawings and Sculptures from the 19th and 20th Centuries", a small Japanese art book from a young (12 years old) Japanese woman's art, "Spring around my Shoulders", paintings laced with her poetry, and a first edition, first printing of Madeleine L'Engle "A Ring of Endless Light". All at the Housing Works Bookstore and Café also in Soho, with a glass of iced tea, as this was their 30% off first weekend of the month sale!

A drugstore.com order (house sundries, Tom of Maine's lemongrass deodorant, and freeze-dried chicken breasts for Kailash), a vegan spread at the NYC Vegan and Vegetarian Festival (made of lentils and other things, called "Faux Gras" which made me chuckle and I had to have it, even though I have quite a few non-faux foies gras in my fridge at the moment! pretty tasty though, will serve it at one of the femmes teas).
The day is young yet, and I might go for sushi later!
