Just a reminder:

The day is wrapping up, but it's not too late to submit your word of the day.

My word of the day is simple and true....LOVE

I gave lots of it out, and received a lot in return. It has been a wonderful day.

A very worthy late entry. Thank you, CherryWine. The judges are going to have a difficult decision to make. You should know, they are not adverse to accepting bribes.

The judges have made their decision

And it was a tough decision to make, indeed. So many good words but, alas, there can be only one Word of the Day. Being that it was Mother's Day yesterday, the judges went with the sentimental favorite. Yesterday's official Word of the Day is Orema's submission of Medea. Thank you, Orema. (f)

There are no losers and today is another day. Remember folks, always choose your words carefully.

I grew up north of the Mason/Dixon line and like some other children in the north, I'd sometimes go to the south to visit aunts and uncles for the summer break. In some Black families in the south, it was common to call the matriarch Mother Dear, and it was often shortened to Mo'dea', Medea, or Madea, in letters, cards, and spoken language.

Contrary to what Tyler Perry would have you beleive (!) this term of endearment for older Black women has nothing to do with the Greek mythology, it's just another way of saying "Mother Dear."

So, as much as I dislike Tyler Perry and the way he has bastardized this word, my word for today is Medea.

Ha! We didn't know one word would be recognized or we all would have pulled out the big guns!

You're too kind, Ace, and you're right about no losers. :bouquet:
