Rules of Karma
"The great hand of Karma shall even the score,
The wronged vindicated, The manipulative exposed, so all may know their evils acts, No amount of regret, forgiveness or treading lighty can advert the forces which level. Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly, Suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. At the moment of recogning no adage shall ring truer, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." |
I’m an optimist in the sense that I believe humans are noble and honorable, and some of them are really smart. I have a very optimistic view of individuals. As individuals, people are inherently good. I have a somewhat more pessimistic view of people in groups. And I remain extremely concerned when I see what’s happening in our country, which is in many ways the luckiest place in the world. We don’t seem to be excited about making our country a better place for our kids. ~ Steve Jobs

Love After Love by Derek Walcott
The time will come
When, after elation You will greet yourself arriving At your own door, in your own mirror, And each will smile at the other's welcome, And say, sit here, Eat. You will love again the stranger that was yourself. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart To itself, to the stranger who has loved you All your life, whom you ignored For another, who knows you by heart. Take down the letters from the bookshelf, The photographs, the desperate notes, Peel your image from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life. |
The Rules for Being Human, by Cherie Carter-Scott
1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a fulltime informal school called life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid. 3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error, experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately "works." 4. A lesson is repeated until learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson. 5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive there are lessons to be learned. 6. "There" is no better than "here." When your "there" has become a "here" you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here." 7. Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself. 8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours. 9. Your answers lie inside you. The answer to life's questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust. 10. This will often be forgotten, only to be remembered again. |
Throw your dreams into space like a kite, for you do not know what it will bring back: a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country. ~Anaïs Nin |
"Lock up your mind, and unlock your senses first. To everything there is an order and a flow, even in Chaos. What your mind cannot process, your senses will figure out for you" ~ DW ~ :daywalker: |

“We can reside in a place of desperation, panic and fear—or we can literally give ourselves some breathing space. Take in a few deep breaths. Exhale. And focus on what we need instead of what we've been striving to have.”

I do think the patriotic thing to do is to critique my country. How else do you make a country better but by pointing out its flaws? ~ Bill Maher

We have the Bill of Rights. What we need is a Bill of Responsibilities. ~ Bill Maher
We need more people speaking out. This country is not overrun with rebels and free thinkers. It's overrun with sheep and conformists. ~ Bill Maher |
Listen to your heart. It's on your left side, but always right.

Light travels faster then sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Zen is not a particular state but the normal state: silent, peaceful, unagitated. In Zazen neither intention, analysis, specific effort nor imagination take place. It's enough just to be without hypocrisy, dogmatism, arrogance -- embracing all opposites. -Taisen Deshimaru, Zen teacher (1914-1982)
