This next week at work.. Since all the layoffs last year and those of us who took salary cuts its supposed to be the highest week weve had. Lord I hope so I sooooooo need the cash. My brother and how I havent let it out of the bag yet about my being trans. He already cant handle the fact Im gay... And how its not the time to tell him. I read something yesterday that made me very, very happy. It was an article about The Urban Prep Academy for Young Men in Englewood (a suburb of Chicago, I think). It is the only public, all-male, all-African American high school and the article was written because they are sending ALL of the their 107 seniors to college. 100% were accepted to 72 colleges across the country!
The author of the article, Dr. Boyce Watkins, wrote "Being a great athlete can make you powerful, but being a great thinker makes you EMPOWERED." I love that. I freakin' love that. I love that when you call the school, before you are able to put an extension in, a message says that the students are college-bound. The teachers and kids put in waaaaay longer hours than average schools and it has paid off tenfold. Many of their graduating students could not read past a fourth grade level when they arrived at the school. A little more than a year later and look where they are! It's such a boon for charter schools! I hope that others take notice and learn from the success of these educators. |

This whole fantastic weekend with her is all I can think about! Great conversation Friday night over a few drinks, snake saturday parties and mucho fun with our friends, the looks across the room that made it VERY obvious to our friends that we like each other, and getting to lay around on the couch watching our favorite show, The Office, while just dying of laughter.
My KU Jayhawks winning the Big XII Championship was just the icing on the cake! What a great weekend right before I start school tomorrow!! My cup runneth over and I am so thankful! |

Went out to the cemetery today to visit my Mom. This was a huge step for me. Mom died 3 years ago and I am finally grieving.

Ummmmmmmmmmm trying to think of why my bathroom sink had to decide to stop up just now? No problem I won't let that mess up an otherwise WONDERFUL weekend. I'll fix it when I get home from work tomorrow.

It used to be that once the election was over there were no more of those horrid, often fear inducing and/or misleading, political ads. But they haven't stopped! Now the lobby groups, political groups, industry groups and anyone that has enough money, are running "Contact your Representative/Senator" spots about everything from taxes to dog catchers. They are as numerous as those horrible drug ads.
Just can't seem to hit that "mute" button fast enough sometimes. |
