I'll keep that in mind as I go vote today ;)

Tawse 07-31-2012 09:46 AM

I just took a look at the ballots (Gwinnett)... this country is going backwards. Or at least this county... and state...

Katniss 07-31-2012 02:58 PM

I was thinking something a little more altruistic than voting but it does meet all the criteria listed so fair play!

I was actually walking out the door to vote when my mother called. The following conversation ensued;

Mom: "What are you up to?"
Me: "On my way to vote."
Mom:' "Please tell me you aren't going to vote for that Obama."
Me: (blink blink) "What?"
Mom: "Obama, I know how you are. It would be just like you. Tell me you won't vote for him today."
Me: "Ummm...no, I won't."
Mom: "Well good. Glad to hear it."

True to my word I did not vote for Obama today. Matter of fact I didn't even see him listed as running for the DeKalb School Board.... (smh)

Katniss 08-01-2012 05:49 AM

Once again (and with feeling)....

Good morning Georgia!!!

Why yes, I do plan on keeping this up until this thread gets more active.
I'm persistent/tenacious/batshtcrzy like that.

Remember today is "support Chick-fil-A" day. I suggest going in, asking for a nice cup of ice water, smiling sweetly and then leaving to get your chicken fix elsewhere......
:cluck:

Tawse 08-01-2012 07:39 AM

I'm right down the street from the original dwarf house. I'm elated.

Tybee IS beautiful! I don't know of the Marshall House BUT I DO know of the Olde Harbour Inn...stayed there a few days February 2010. MOST all of the old Inns are beautiful though. Be sure to dine at Huey's on River Street, do a trolley tour....and of course, go out to Tybee and dine at The Crab Shack!!!! For what it is worth, eating at the Lady & sons....isn't all that...jus' sayin'. Her brother's place, is awesome tho. Uncle Bubba's....

I had heard the same thing about Lady & Sons from friends that have been :( ...had planned on the Crab Shack, glad to hear your endorsement! Tybee Beach at Sunset...sand ceremony, officiant and photographer already scheduled...it will be beautiful!

Ohhhh wow...yes that will be spectacular. I may have to crash that wedding...smiles...
Plan to dine in the afternoon when tide is highest...as the Crab Shack sets on a marsh....plan when the tide is high... those pesky "no see'ums" come out on low tide......
There is a huge, lovely deck nestled in the huge oaks with swaying moss in them..is very rustic. They have big half barrels with gas logs for fire/warmth. The ambiance is just incredible!!! Over in the gift house beside the restaurant is a huge huge cat haven...they have kitty condos, etc for them..and exotic birds...
Perhaps you will get to see some of the loggerhead turtle nests when you are there...
Savannah is a beautiful city. Midnight in The Garden of Good & Evil was filmed there on the square, as was parts of Forrest Gump..

Ah yes, the dwarf house.....

My friends and I made a point to go to WENDY'S tonight for a grilled chicken sandwich meal. We then bundled all our receipts into a "Thinking of You" card and popped it into the mailbox on it's way to CFA headquarters.

Deborah,

First off congratulations and best wishes! Sounds lovely and Claybaby is right, skip Lady & sons but Crab Shack for sure and def. at high tide. My cousin lives down in Darien and the mosquitoes are so bad you can't jump in the car without at least 20 getting in with you. Not sure of your timeframe but I LOVE Cumberland Island if you can make it over that way. Wild horses, neat ruins, lots of shark teeth on the beach....have to get ferry reservations as the only way to get out there.

Tawse 08-02-2012 05:06 AM

Morning peep - hope you got a chance to enjoy the moon... it was beautiful this morning.

And to all those people on the connector at 6am who apparently felt as though we should ALL travel 55mph in EVERY lane.

Eat my exhaust.

Anything happening in ATL this weekend? Last few days of freedom....

Katniss 08-02-2012 05:28 AM

Good morning Georgia peeps!!!

Thank-you Tawse for hitting this thread early! (I was starting to feel all sad and like there was an echo in here).

Yes! The moon was sooo pretty! Have any of you been out to Hard Labor Creek SP? There is an observatory out there off I-20 run by UGA. Once a month during the summer it is open (no charge) to the public. Highly recommend it. It is one thing to see the rings of Venus in pictures/tv but a completely different experience "live" if you will......

Hope everyone has something fun to look forward to today! Tonight is art class for me! Yippee!!!

I'm going to my brothers for our quarterly "who got older since we last saw each other" gathering... You're welcome to join... he'll prolly be watching Nascar.

O.o

clay 08-02-2012 09:14 AM

morning neighbors! Hope you all don't mind me popping over here...the SC thread is almost nil. I think only 2 of us post...sporadically!
Yes, that moon was stunning! I was looking at it through my binoculars.....spectacular!
And agree with katniss...Cumberland is a must if time allows. I think Deborah & Billy are getting married in April....
Katniss I camped at Hard Labor Creek park many moons ago...late 80's....and I LOVED that park! One of my local vet friends takes her horses down and she & her hubby ride there in the park.
Another fave campground of mine is Swiftwaters, near Dahlonega. I went there when the original owners were just setting it up.
BK....I am sure you can find SOMEthing to get into this weekend...lol...hotLanta is always hopping!
Have an incredible Thursday peoples....hugs from SC!

Argh, argh, argh!!!! Not venus with rings, Saturn! Had just read my horoscope and had Venus on the brain. Yes, I do know my solar system. Even got an "A minus" on my shoebox solar system in 3rd grade. Would have gotten an "A plus" but mean teacher deducted points becasue I drew a smiley face on my sun.

Katniss 08-03-2012 05:23 AM

TGIF in Ga.!!!

Goooood Friday morning all the Ga. peaches and peeps!

and yes, Claybaby, that includes you. We are all about Southern hospitality here!

Bkisbutchenuff...did you find a way to occupy your time this weekend?

Places I plan to hit;

Fri. evening; Free dance classes at the Rush Center (next to Lesbian Health Center). I'm focusing on ballroom but they are teaching swing too. I can assure you butches are in very short supply at this event. (but the gay men are always jealous of my shoes)

Sat.- Fourth Tues. is meeting at Movie Tavern N'Lake for "Total Recall" in the evening.

Sat.-A really cool group of photographers is meeting at the Westin to shot some stuff on P'Tree at night. About 40 of us are going. Not a gay group but cool people. This is where I plan to hang.

Sun.--Summer Singers are doing Beethoven's Mass in C at Grace United Methodist. Sold out but I know someone with a spare/free ticket (yeah, I roll like that)

If anyone wants details/info. on any of the above p/m me.

Ok....I just covered gay arts/culture this weekend. Someone else jump in with "sports" and "nature."

Nature: I plan to encourage the black widows that live in my back yard to find another back yard to live in. I intend to do this with pesticides, demolishing the rotting planter that they currently live in, performing elaborate spider hexes, or some combination of the three. I plan to look silly as hell with my jeans stuffed in my socks while I do this. I also plan to swat at myself, and spaz out at the tiniest crawling sensation. I may even emit shrieks that I don't recognize as my own.

I hate nature.

bkisbutchenuff 08-03-2012 07:18 AM

Plans are still developing...but looks like its going to be a great weekend!

Tawse 08-03-2012 07:28 AM

Tonight: (Sports!!) Fast Forwarding through DVRed Olympics so that the wife doesn't have an aneurysm because of how full the DVR is (forget the fact that she has 50 hours of NCIS stashed on it).

Tomorrow: Figure out how I can make a "chips and sandwich" family gathering into a low calorie / low simple carb experience. Then go to said family gathering and pray no one brings up Chik Fil A (no one = brother).

Sunday: Celebrate the wife's birthday which means doing anything she wants to do.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Too funny! But really, the Brown Recluse scares me. A friend in N. Ga. had her 5 year old bitten by one and the girl ended up needing skin grafts, etc. Be careful!

Shaking my head....

Well, well, well....leave ya'll alone for a few days and this place goes back to crickets and lightening bugs.

(grabbing broom, opening windows....turning on music and airing the place out)

Tawse...how was the birthday for your wife? Are you sending any of us leftover cake?

JD...please let everyone know you are alive and the spiders did not carry you away nor did you succumb to pesticide fumes, etc., etc. (we also really want to know if one got on ya' and you screamed like a girl?)

bkisbutchenuff....hope you had a great "last hurrah" weekend before getting back to the rat race!

Claybaby....*sigh* I reaaally hate to admit this...but after my latest shop at the farmer's stand...S. Carolina peaches trump Ga. peaches hands down. (looks at floor in shame as Ga. is peach state...)

I survived...though the task isn't complete. I've got two wood planters, both old and rotting, the ideal home for black widows (one should never ever ever ever carry in firewood for the first fire of the season after the wood has been sitting outside all summer without fully inspecting it for black widows!!)... I sprayed down the inside of the planters with pesticides...and not one...not two...but three black widows came charging out of their hidey-holes. I didn't scream because 1. I anticipated their appearance and 2. I was standing 4 feet away (the pesticide container has a battery-powered dispenser!!).

I soaked the monkey grass on the outside of the planters with pesticide as well, in case any spiders tried to make a break for it. I'll spray it again this week, and demolish the planters this weekend.

I've got a cold now... or maybe it's from inhaling all the pesticide? No idea where I picked up the cold, I'm such a hermit, and nobody I work directly with has one. Of course, I do work with diseases for a living. Oh well. Hope everyone is well.

I have to say.. the peaches here are usually awesome, but this year the peaches suck!(just my opinion) On the other hand, the nectarines have been awesome this year!

Left over cake? LOL I actually only had the tiniest of slivers... I had salad for dinner instead of their mega sandwiches they were making.. I think I did pretty good. Got enough cake to taste and not enough to spin off into a sugar induced frenzy chased with a coma. lol

Her birthday was good - we basically didn't do much of anything. Went to Longhorn for dinner (my reason for not going crazy the day before) and then went home and watched the olympics.

We're gearing up to head to canada... timing couldn't be better. I need a break from the south.

Katniss 08-08-2012 06:02 AM

Good morning!!

J.D.---ha ha ha ha! So *that's* what the funny green haze hanging over the city is about....pesticide fumes!
Don't feel bad...I once went to a cabin with some friends and was soooo proud of rockin' this L.L. Bean look...pink plaid flannel shirt, new cute suede hiking boots...totally had the "outdoor" look going on. So went to help bring in some firewood (fine...one log), pulled it off the top of this pile and I kid you not a MOUSE (!!!!!!!!) came flying (yes...they fly!!!) out at me! I did in fact scream like a girl, the dog freaked and took off down the road and I doubt whether an olympic sprinter would have bettered my time back to the cabin. When critters come flying at you it's too much nature for this girl!
:sugarglider:

Claybaby....I will concede defeat on the peach war. S. Caroliona...OMGosh! Eat over the sink awesomeness! (Oh...and sugarbaby watermelons....nature's candy).

Don't forget we have Mary Macs! Oh...and almost every single ethnic restaurant on Buford Hwy. Plus Southern Sweets for the best apple pie on this earth....(don't get me started....)

Everyone have a great day!

Katniss (still waiting on all those birthday people to send cake!!!)

Katniss 08-08-2012 06:11 AM

No cake...frown

Awww...that sounds nice...sometimes the quiet "just be" times are the best. I am envious of the Canada trip as sounds lovely. I heard (???) it is supposed to get cooler the end of this week (hallelujah!)

Have you ever been to a website called Sparkpeople? It's free and they have some really, really good and healthy recipes. (hope it is not against rules to reference a website here).

I know! Drought? But S. Carolina has more or less the same conditions. I am lucky because I go to this little independent produce stand and the owner is great. I bought some Ga. peaches 2 weeks ago and she asked how they were and I said they were "fine". She then grabbed my arm and steered me to the S. Carolina peaches. Apparently her husband goes up there and buys on the weekends. They are da' bomb!
But hey....we have the best pecans hands down!

Just peeking in....

I'm not from Georgia or the south. But my 2nd ex-wife is Southern. I whole heartedly admit to a huge attraction to Southern ladies. The protocol. The vernacular. The accent. Oh, damn, that slight, soft sweet drawl. Atlanta is on my to do list.
I apologize in advance if I sound like a male chauvinist pig. I'm truly not.
But I will admit to being somewhat shallow. ;-)

LOL a small town in the south may get you closer to that stereotype.. but then you get the likelihood for the other stereotypes. Racism, Religious intolerance, homophobia...

So if you stay "inside the perimeter" you'll get a lot of people who weren't born in the south - and those that were have very little if any southern accent (because we grew up around so many different accents). And if you go OTP (outside the perimeter)... well. Some people do what they can to avoid it. lol Personally I live OTP, but I definitely find myself "keeping an eye open" more than I did when I lived ITP.
