Jack gave me an early Valentine's Day present: the Kindle FIRE!

Does anyone have one? My "old Kindle" is only a year old and I will probably sell it but the new one is a lot heavier, will definitely take some getting used too but it's so tablet-like that I forget it's not a giant iPhone.

It comes with a month of the free Amazon Prime service. Already found a book to borrow but it looks like all of the new books are not included. Anyone have Prime? Do you use it enough to justify the cost?

I have one and love it. I'm not sure about Amazon Prime really. I too got a month free but have not really taken advantage of it. I also notice a lot of books I read can not be loaned.

I had the old kindle and sent it back. I preferred the PC for kindle but Kindle Fire is def the shit.

I just got the Kindle Fire for Christmas...and I love it! I, too, got the Amazon Prime service. I am still undecided about whether or not I want to keep it. If you use Amazon, it's supposed to be worth it, as you get discounts on everything, free shipping, etc... It also lets you stream certain movies for free and download free games. I haven't borrowed any books yet...I'm still downloading all the free ones I've found in the Kindle store and on the several sites I joined that offer free books, so I can't really say if it's worth it or not regarding books.

Sachita 02-08-2012 07:15 AM

Its 79.00. I buy tons of stuff from Amazon and most of it is free shipping or I find a vendor that offers free shipping. I'm a frugal shopping pro!

I don't see where it offers any more movie options then Netflix and Netflix is 7.00 a month unlimited streaming. I think that Netflix offers more TV series then Amazon and many times I use this.

There are a lot of free books with Prime but not really the type of books I read often but I will be honest and say that I have not checked them all out. I do think that amazon is making fast tracks at leaving Netflix in the dust. I think they should offer a monthly subscription.

I still find Kindle Fire to be a little buggy at times when it comes to the browser and some apps. I got the Kindle mainly because it now allows the Netflix app which it did not before and I probably would have bought a tablet but for 199.00 you definitely can't beat it. Hopefully as they enhance and upgrade they offer their current fire users a chance to upgrade at a discount.

It's FREE for two weeks starting today! :) I hope you will take a chance on it and tell your friends EVERYWHERE.

From the official site:

Book 1 in the Lusting Wild series.

New Orleans sizzles when Dr. Carly Chambers finds herself in the hands — or paws — of sexy shifter and antiques dealer Tony Pantera. Though the memory of his murdered human lover haunts him, Tony can't deny the sensual scent of this doctor his friends kidnapped or the fact that Carly is now in danger because of him.

The Turn Skins are power-hungry shifters who want to reveal themselves to the world and take over humans through fear. Tony and his friends stand in their way. Carly proves to be a tool for the Turn Skins when they learn that Tony can't resist the attractive doctor. And Carly is happy to stroke this shifter's fur. Their erotic encounters hurtle them into the path of danger and death.

Can Tony protect his human lover from the Turn Skins who don't care if she's hurt as long as they get their way?

Reader Advisory: Contains some scenes of violence that are not for the faint of heart.

After much research I finally bought an e-reader. I chose the Kobo Vox. It's much bigger then any kindle on the market. It has all the android apps, I love the scrabble one and play it every night before I go to sleep. Kobo has more free books then the kindle. This is a beautiful toy!!

I see them on eBay. Or if you have a Craigslist in you area, you might find one.

I just successfully loaned my first book to Goof! It was really easy!

Pete gave me a kindle for my birthday, woohoo.

I want to get a cover, and maybe a film for the screen.

Any suggestions?

A film might cause reflection issues. A cover should be all the protection you need. Happy Birthday tomorrow!

I have a leather cover for mine that I love and there is a film as well. I don't know what brand because I bought mine second had. I love it. Congratulations!

To those who did get my book while it was free (It's back to 1.99 now as a Vault special), would you do a review if you have the inclination? I'd so appreciate it!

Chancie 04-30-2012 04:41 PM

I was at BJ's, and I got a purple leather cover.

It's pretty and simple, and not very expensive, so

If I decide I want one from Oberon,

I can spend time and choose the exact cover I want.

My first books were The Hunger Games and The Help.

Free books!

Hey Kindlers....

If you haven't checked out the FREE books for Kindle on Amazon, then you owe it to yourself to go there!

It's a little tricky to find on the site....you have to go to the 100 most popular lists...and ultimately it will show you a tab for free books. Tell it you want to see more....and it will show you a 2 column list. The left side is most popular that cost money, and the right is most popular FREE.

There are 100 books at a time, and they change frequently.

It sounds too good to be true, I know....but it works. I just downloaded 12 free, full length books....classics like Pride and Prejudice, Tale of Two Cities...and a couple thrillers...a mystery....a historical novel...even a 21 Day Guide to Mindful Eating.

I'm so excited!!!!! :cheesy:

FYI- Amazon Prime is worth the 79.00 a year. I had no idea and would not have even joined had I have not received my free trial when I bought my Kindle. I love the discounts but most of all the free 2 day shipping. Its cheaper for me to pay 3.99 overnight then spend the money in gas to drive to town. I've saved hundreds in discounts and shipping a lone just in the past 6 months.

These are the free books.

TIPS:

1. Always check the publisher's description
2. Always check the page count

Many authors are writing short stories that tie in to their existing books. My publisher started doing this a while ago and others have also started. It's extremely effective for backlist sales.

Hello there kindlers

I promised I'd buy myself a kindle when/if I reached six months sobriety. Well the goal has been achieved and I want my kindle but can't decide which one. The entry level one or the touch screen. Does anyone have any experience of one or both of the new kindles? What can you tell me that might swing me one way or t'other?

Ta ever so in advance :chaplin:

I have the Touch and I don't see what's so great about it. I would have gotten the original one if I had planned ahead

guess it depends on what all you want to be able to do with it. i can't imagine being without my Fire - it has saved me a few times - but then again i don't have any other pad things. if i did, would probably be ok without all the extras. pretty colors, games, music, netflix & browsing web, on top of the books. i dont know anything about the older versions though. good luck choosing!

I have the Touch and I love it. The battery time lasts for a long time as long as I remember to turn WiFi off when I have finished shopping for books or games. If camping or otherwise reading where light is non-existent or limited, one can see the screen quite well with a small flashlight or a clip-on light. I can't tell you personally if it's better than the original one, or less great than the Fire. I can tell you that I made the decision to get the Touch over the Original one because the Touch has both WiFi and 3-G. The way I made my decision was to weed through the many reviews for each on Amazon. Good luck. :)

Kelt 09-08-2012 05:37 PM

Anybody else psyched about the new Paperwhite? I am all over this thing. :cheesy:

LadyRain 09-14-2012 07:37 PM

The KoBo reader is bigger then the kindle fire, i like the interface better. it runs any android app you want, and comes in................PINKandsky blue!!!!!

Daktari 09-15-2012 06:33 AM

That Paperwhite for the KTouch looks like a winner. If only it was for the entry level K too. I use a small led headlight for reading in low light. To be fair, I don't care if I look a bit odd reading whilst wearing a head light. :cheesy:

After reading all the reviews and taking into account what folks here and elsewhere said I bought the entry level version. The reasons being I wanted physical page turning buttons and to avoid any frustrations of accidentally turning pages by touch the screen. Anyhoo, I lurve my Kindle.

I hoped I might like the Hunger Games Trilogy and in retrospect think it wasn't worth the time I devoted to it.

Currently working my way through the lovely easy reading P.Cornwell, Scarpetta books again...a history of the Tour de France...Henry VIII Mistresses and the Tudor Housewife.

Looking forward to reading today's Kindle Daily Deal - The Pilo Family Circus.

I love that I can take lots of books out with me to satisfy my gnat like attention span.

Sachita 09-15-2012 07:31 AM

I'm VERY excited about the new larger HD Kindle coming out in Nov. I'm not sure I need the 4G since I normally am on wifi when I read or play with Kindle, however at 49.00 a year you can't beat it. I got a Kindle fire right when they first came out. I love it. I use it all the time. I will get the new one, especially excited about dolby sound because I use spotify on it all the time. I'm giving my old Fire to my 19 month old granddaughter who has learned to navigate it quite well to find HER APPS and games.

SugarFemme 09-15-2012 04:28 PM

I have the Kindle Touch, but am also getting the new Kindle Fire HD any day now. It's a freebie!! So I got very lucky. Has anyone gotten theirs yet? What do you think? I'm getting the standard 7" one.

Arwen 11-27-2012 11:08 AM

Anyone need a little sexy reading? http://bit.ly/UpSn3A is byPaisley Smith. It's Civil War era lesbian erotica. Butch/Femme, y'all!and only .99. There's a sequel as well but you should read this one first.

Medusa 11-30-2012 10:18 AM

Anyone find random errors on Kindle books? Like, I have read 3 books in the last month that all had some kind grammatical or EEK, a spelling error!
It's generally not a big deal but is definitely distracting!

Self-pubbed books are bad for that. I get annoyed because it is often a case of a lazy writer. I am having my non-fiction professionally edited now. And I expect thate there will still be errors.

Even professionally edited books have things sneak through. Best error ever?

HAHA! I found one in a book the other day that is by a well-known power-author (with 30 books on the best seller list over the years). It went something like:

The beings creped up the stares.

Kindle Fiyahhh HD!!!

Hi Folks,

I got a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 - 16GB for Xmas and I'm in loooove!!! I am addicted to this piece of modern technology. I'm a huge gamer and the graphics are amazing.

Prior to the HD version I received, I had a regular Kindle Fire 7" inch screen which was pretty good, but...the HD is amazing. I have some pretty cool games/apps and if anyone is interested in knowing what they and want to give them a try let me know.

Happy Kindling!!
