My left eye has been twitching for two weeks.

I should probably shut down this comp and go do something useful... like watch Netflix.

I like it a lot when people pronounce the word herb with a hard H.
And also when they say nucular instead of nuclear.

And I've no idea why. I just always have.

lol, and no; I do not pronounce either word in those ways.

I wish I could stop myself from affecting an accent whenever I speak to someone with an accent.

When I was about 12 years old, I moved to a brand new school district. I was a terribly shy child and the minute I opened my mouth, I spontaneously affected the most ridiculous accent ever! lmao, it was just like what happened to Ross on that Friends episode (I don't know of you've ever seen it, but it's just absurd).

And no one had ever heard this sort of accent either and so of course everyone wanted to know where I moved from. It was a mess! lol, thank goodness I'm naturally a clown or I would have been annihilated.

So for most of the year I coolly played it off and gradually started phasing it out just like on the show. Luckily, I moved to a different school after that year, too; and I was careful that no faux accent slipped out that time!

I actually laughed reading that story.. a mix of humour and total empathy. I had no problem imagining your 12 y/o self anticipating each day with dread.

It was dreadful!!!!!

Worst year of school ever.

The Mayerling Incident is the series of events leading to the apparent murder-suicide of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria (21 August 1858 – 30 January 1889) and his lover Baroness Mary Vetsera (19 March 1871 – 30 January 1889). Rudolf was the only son of Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria and Empress Elisabeth, and heir to the throne of the combined Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Rudolf's mistress was the daughter of Baron Albin Vetsera, a diplomat at the Austrian court. The bodies of the 30-year-old Archduke and the 17-year-old baroness were discovered in the Imperial hunting lodge at Mayerling in the Vienna Woods, fifteen miles southwest of the capital, on the morning of 30 January 1889.[1]

The death of the crown prince had momentous consequences for the course of history in the nineteenth century. It had a devastating effect on the already compromised marriage of the Imperial couple and interrupted the security inherent in the immediate line of Habsburg dynastic succession. As Rudolf had no son, the succession would pass to Franz Joseph's brother, Karl Ludwig and his issue, Archduke Franz Ferdinand.[1] This destabilization endangered the growing reconciliation between the Austrian and the Hungarian factions of the empire, which became a catalyst of the developments that led to the assassination of the Archduke and his wife Sophie by Gavrilo Princip, a Yugoslav nationalist and ethnic Serb at Sarajevo in June 1914 and the subsequent drift into the First World War.

Folksinger and activist Pete Seeger was brought before the House Un-American Activities Committee in August of 1955. Like many others placed in the same position - not a few of them his friends - Seeger refused to "name names" or to speak about his own political beliefs or alliances. But unlike the majority, he also refused to take the Fifth Amendment.
