. . . the ears ripen in late summer
and come on with a conquering laughter,
come on with a high and conquering laughter.

one of the smaller blackbirds chitters on a stalk
and a spot of red is on its shoulder
and I never heard its name in my life. . .

A little rain fell in the morning

An' that song you loved to hear
Was filling up the fence row where the birds all go
To talk over their long journey and sing.

We have no freer or quieter place to which we may retire
than into our own souls, particularly when we have within us
such thoughts that by looking into them we are immediately
in perfect tranquility. And I affirm that tranquility is nothing else
than the good ordering of the mind.

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus

Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions,
slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.
And however undramatic the pursuit of peace, the pursuit must go on.

John F. Kennedy

Over all the mountaintops
Is peace.
In all treetops
You perceive
Scarcely a breath.
The little birds in the forest
Are silent.
Wait then; soon
You, too, will have peace.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Leo F. Buscaglia

I received this in an email a while back. It is something to ponder:

Life is a theater--invite your audience carefully. Not everyone is spiritually healthy and mature enough to have a front row seat in our lives. There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a distance. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go, or at least minimize your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not-going-anywhere relationships/friendships/fellowships!

Observe the relationships around you. Pay attention to: which ones lift and which ones lean? Which ones encourage and which ones discourage? Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are going downhill? When you leave certain people,
do you feel better or feel worse? Which ones always have drama or don't really understand, know and appreciate you and the gift that lies within you? When you seek growth, peace of mind, love and truth, the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the
FRONT ROW and who should be moved to the balcony of your life.

You cannot change the people around you..but you can change the people you are around. Pray for Godly wisdom and discernment and choose wisely the people who sit in the FRONT ROW of your life.

Here is a favorite poem of mine that lately has been on my mind:

William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

THE SECOND COMING

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Lady Pamela 04-22-2010 12:57 AM

You are as young as your faith,
as old as your doubt;
as young as your self-confidence,
as old as your fear;
as young as your hope,
as old as your despair."

— Douglas MacArthur
