The Capitol Police Are Getting Mandatory Potty Training

http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/...3469561702.jpg

A bunch of Capitol Police officers have been such morons with their guns this year that their chief is actually requiring them to get training on how to go to the bathroom when they’re wearing their big boy holsters.

According to the AP, officers have left their guns behind in public bathrooms at least three times this year. One gun was found by a child.

Scientists can tell us a lot about this young Egtved girl 3400 years AFTER her death. Great read, much more at the link.

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/c...dapt.768.1.jpg

In 1921, archaeologists exploring an ancient burial mound near Egtved, a village in Denmark, unearthed the grave of a girl estimated to have been 16 to 18 years old when she died.

Not much remained of her body — only some hair, teeth, nails, and bits of skin and brain — but scholars could tell a lot about her. Dressed in fine woolen clothing, with a bronze medallion on her belt that probably represented the sun, the Egtved Girl, as she came to be known, was believed to be a person of high status. She was buried with the cremated remains of a small child and a bark bucket that once contained beer. Analysis of the oak coffin in which she lay revealed that she died about 3,400 years ago.

This week, nearly a century after she was discovered, a team of researchers in Denmark filled in more detail of the Egtved Girl’s life story. By analyzing chemicals in her body and in the items in her coffin, they were able to surmise that she hadn’t been born in Denmark, that her diet lacked protein from time to time, and that she traveled widely in the final months of her life.

“Our study provides evidence for long-distance and periodically rapid mobility. Our findings compel us to rethink European Bronze Age mobility as highly dynamic, where individuals moved quickly, over long distances in relatively brief periods of time,” the researchers wrote, in a study published Thursday in the journal Scientific Reports.

Woman Found Pushing Dead Toddler in Swing

http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/...tfur2wfcgd.png

Police responded to Wills Memorial Park in La Plata, Maryland at around 7 a.m. yesterday after a caller reported seeing a woman pushing a child in a swing for “an unusually long period of time.” From WUSA:

The 24-year-old mother and her son may have been at the park since the day before, officials said. When officers got to the park, they found the woman pushing the three-year-old in a swing at the playground. Officers noticed right away that the boy was dead.
According to authorities, the toddler showed no obvious signs of trauma. The Office of the Medical Examiner in Baltimore is scheduled to perform an autopsy to determine the boy’s cause of death.

Meet Joy Lofthouse, 92 and a World War II pilot.

Then and Now

http://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/...lot-286103.jpg

Seventy years after she served in World War II, this veteran took a trip down memory lane. Her name is Joy Lofthouse. While she may be 92-years-old, she is living it up like she’s in her twenties.

Joy is a veteran of the Air Transport Auxiliary which served in WWII. As she hopped into a beautiful spitfire airplane, Joy was excited to get back into the air. Once the plane was up and flying, Joy was put in control and flew the plane herself.

Officer who told teen his parents were killed in a crash shows up at his graduation.

http://fox17online.com/2015/06/01/of...is-graduation/

ORANGE COUNTY, Texas — A police officer who had to tell an 18-year-old last week that his parents had died in a motorcycle accident kept his promise and showed up at the teen’s high school graduation over the weekend.

Lt. Eric Ellison was tasked with telling 18-year-old Kazzie Portie his parents died on May 24 when a pickup truck smashed into their motorcycle. The driver of the truck faces two manslaughter charges.

When Ellison arrived at the family’s home, Portie was alone, according to BuzzFeed News. Ellison told KBMT breaking the news to Portie was one of the toughest things he has ever done.

Portie told Ellison his graduation from Cypress–Mauriceville High School was only a few days away, so Ellison promised he would be there to support him

Caitlyn Cannon's high school yearbook quote is one for the ages--humorously touching on marriage equality, feminism and the wage gap.

The quote reads: "I need feminism because I intend on marrying rich and I can't do that if my wife and I are making .75 cent for every dollar a man makes."
