Anyone fly fish? It is my new passion.... but, I am not so good at it! Any and all advise gladly accepted!

The first thing I am going to do on pay day next month is go get my 2010 fishing license! I am so ready to go fishing!

Good luck AtLast!!! I've always wanted to take a fly fishing class, just never had the chance to get around to it. I think if I were to give any advise it would be to try to match the hatch. I wouldn't worry so much about laying out the perfect cast but I'd try to put on the right fly. I think fish are concerned with their next meal, not perfect form!!!!

The days are warming and I'm starting to get the fever!!!! My boat needs some work so it looks like I'll be starting the season on the shore, but that's just fine with me!!! Just one bad thing, I've moved and I'm really going to miss my fishing buddy!!!! sigh Ahhh well, I'll have to call her when I'm reeling one in lol

I love fresh fish fried up and I've had it all my life. But the best tasting fish I've ever had was when I've had fish on our Canada fishing trips. The water is so clean up there (and we went wayyyyyy up there) that the fish just tasted better. I highly recommend that anyone who gets the chance should go!!!! I can't wait to go back! :)

Hi AtLast.. I fly fish. and love it. I took a class when I lived in the PNW. We would go to a local park every other weekend on a Saturday... fly fishing poles in hand.. and practice. It truly is an art. I am certainly not as good at it as I am with freshwater. However, it was fun to learn and quite peaceful.

I am so ready to go as well. Freshwater season opens April 1st here. I also catch and release. Our "fish to catch" is the rainbow trout. We have people that travel from Canada and across the US to fish here. I love that people camp up and down the creek and we also have food vendors set up along the long route as well.

Have Fun.

AtLastHome,

I am learning to fly fish. It is really hard to coordinate the casting part of it. I took a couple of lessons, but it is really relaxing to do once you get the knack of it down pat. My adopted sister gave me a gift for the last four Christmas' to a place in Farmington, PA called Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. There they have the Orvis flyfishing school. And that is where I took my lessons at. I only had 4 lessons, mind you. But I have found it to be really fun. I can understand why some folks actually spend hours casting in grass for hours trying to perfect their swing/cast as they say.

Fishing Weekend

I'm in Nashville and fish the surrounding areas. I camp right on the bank at a place called Mousetail Landing (About an hour west of Nashville), and we fish all night.

Arkansas has some great stream/river fishing- I've fly fished it some.

I'm planning to go to the Little Rock Butch Femme Planet event in August. Anyone up for a little fishing? I could go a few days early and meet up with anyone who is interested.

I don't really have any butch fishing buds near me, but would love to get a regular fishing outting started up.

Anyone do any hunting?

sharkchomp 03-15-2010 05:28 PM

Hey Moutainbikedyke, i just moved to Nashville. Maybe we can get together and hit the banks? I'm a pretty simple fisherman. I can cast lures all day or I can bobber fish. I used to hate fishing with nightcrawlers cause the fish would steal my worms lol so I got determined and started fishing with night crawlers all the time. I'm pretty fair at it now :)

if you're interested, pm me for my digits

Hey Shark! I think we're actually going to meet each other this weekend. I can't wait to hit the banks. There is a place called Mousetail Landing- fished off the banks once Saturday for 8 hours or so and just kept reeling in the crappies!

Yeah, they're fun to catch! We were catching a a fish on almost every cast! I don't have a boat yet, but I'm going to start shopping for something that is lightly used.

Mountainbikedike,

I love to go hunting, fishing and skeet shooting! But I no longer am one to go hunting like I used too. Now I just go skeet shooting, and fishing. Hunting in the cold is too much for my body nowadays. I just love being outdoors.

Waiting on the ice to melt and the bay to open up. Then my honey and I need to get our licenses for the year.
Now I have Odis Redding in my head.....:fishswim:

Mountainbikedyke, what kind of boat are you interested in getting?

Strappie 03-15-2010 09:19 PM

Just thought I would throw this in the mix....

last time I went fishing I caught a fish I thought it was HUGE till I pulled it outta the water and it was the size of my tongue. I know this cause my friends laughed their asses off and said "Shit your tongue is bigger than that fish" They took pictures to prove it... lol

sharkchomp 03-16-2010 03:58 AM

LMAO Strappie!!!!!! Good one! Those are the best memories :) One time I thought I had a good fish on - it was a big fat pinecone lol Another time I KNEW I had a good one on - it was a turtle :( We didn't laugh so hard about that one as we had to remove the hook from it. Do you know how hard it is to pull a turtles head from it's shell??? What's funny now is how we all got serious - like it was an operation. One person had the shell. I pulled it's head out and another had hemostats to remove the hook. ^5's all around as the turtle swam away unharmed. Good memories!

Hey Shark. I'll probably just get a john boat of some sort. Also, something I can use for duck hunting...

SyrBlackwolff 03-16-2010 09:05 AM

But you had a great time, right? Hell, a no catch day is a good day of fishing!!!

Damn, would love to have a fishing boat!!!

sharkchomp 03-16-2010 02:02 PM

Mountainbikedyke, right now would be a good time to buy a boat. With the recession people are willing to sell stuff cheap. The boat and the trailer is fairly cheap, what gets you is the ding danged motor!! Good luck, I hope you find what you want!

I'm hoping for a good weekend so I can get my fishing license and legally toss my line in the lake without getting in trouble. I want to start out with worms until I know what the lake is like. Don't want to lose any artificial bait that may have cost me a few bucks. I like to bottom fish anyways. No bobbers for me.

[QUOTE=mountainbikedyke;67880]Hey Shark. I'll probably just get a john boat of some sort. Also, something I can use for duck hunting...[/QUOTEyou can also

how about a nice canoe with a small mounted motor? then you can also paddle in and go into marsh areas.

I like fishing in kayaks. I throw it in my van and can move about really quietly.
