Oh how I wish I could go back and fix the mistake of leaving her off the list!

I was trying to limit the number of characters because there were about a dozen female characters of whom we saw a lot, then another dozen of whom we didnt see that much, then the dudes. To keep the list down, I decided to leave off the dudes and the characters of whom we saw very little - as in, not a lot of screen time, no flashbacks to show their stories, etc.

I'm sorry.

Can't read your posts but wanted to say:

Just finished episode 7, season 1.

Got to go, started episode 8.

Love Big Boo.

Love me the butches.

I started re-watching it and got Bard into it. She is just as hooked. (f)

As for character stories, I really liked Tiffany/Mrs. I am God's right hand lady. Not because I like her - oh no - but it really explained why she is so hellbent now. It almost feels like a brainwash to me, not because she is so devout, but because she wasn't until the church stepped up to portray her as a 'protector of babies' and she had to suck it up and smile.. all for trying for a lesser sentence and stuff.

I really felt Claudette's story made her A-OK. Waiting to see Poussey's since she is not a drug user. And Big Boo's.. Maybe she put an ex gf's new gf in the hospital or something. I could see it.

Great to see a thread for this show. I watched it when it first came out and after watching the last episode I was "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" lol So glad to hear of a second season, can't wait.

I would love to be able to watch with my girl (f) someday.
Maybe when she is home next we can watch an episode or two :) if we have time....... :)

We finally JUST got around to watching it b/c couldn't find it anywhere online and didn't have netflix. BUT, we have discovered it now :) Currently on episode 10. It sucked me in and hasn't cast me back out yet.

At first, like me, she was entertained, but not really into it. I assured her that it would pick up by episode 4, and she persevered, finishing the entire season in 2 days. I am happy to report that she is officially hooked, just like me. :) YAY!

Not unpredictably, we differ on favorite characters, but that makes it even more fun to talk about!

I love Red because I love Kate Mulgrew period. Seeing Crazy Eyes with her family on visiting day made me want to see her backstory most of all. I love Big Boo, and Pennsatucky although funny at times is also crazy and I wanna scream every time I see her. I love the nun and see Poussey as butch, myself.

Damn, that sounds good - I wish we could get that here!

Maybe Netflix or something will pick up that show after another season or two - Netflix sometimes has shows from other countries, so maybe they will pick this one up so we can see it as well. :winky:

Some info for the curious ---> Wentworth, aka Wentworth Prison.

If you're talking about Prison Break, I don't think there is much comparison there. To me, it is a different animal entirely. OITNB is based off of a true story, Prison Break is not. Prison Break has the flexibility of being able to take extreme changes in plot/story direction. OITNB doesn't have the ability to change like that.

On a side note (off topic), in my opinion, the actor that I didn't feel received enough credit for his skills from Prison Break, was Robert Knepper.

Ha! Another example that shows that I don't always know what I'm talking about. Yay! An opportunity to gain more knowledge. Now I have to look up that show!

With the star of Prison Break being Wentworth Miller, it isn't hard to see why that would have confused me.

Parker 09-14-2013 01:05 PM

I was confused as well because when I Googled "Wentworth," all that came up was him and his prison show and I was all, that cant be what puddin' is talking about; so I Googled "Wentworth TV" and found it!

Tricky. Very very tricky. :winky:

Martina 09-14-2013 01:09 PM

I may have to check it out. I almost never watch anything set in prison. It breaks my heart thinking about the ruined lives. But it does sound good. I heard an interview on NPR with the show's creator too, which piqued my interest.

I did watch Prison Break because of the comparisons to 24, which I had loved. I skipped the season set in the Panamanian jail. Couldn't handle it. I normally cannot take it when people are falsely accused either -- Fugitive-like narratives. But I watched Prison Break. I can't say it was great, but I watched it gluttonously.

I loved The Prisoner so I am very interested in finding a way to watch this in Canada. Its often tricky to see some US shows on the computer in Canada unless they are already shown on Canadian tv or Canadian Netflix. Or unless you have one of those programs that allow you to look like your in a different country of your choice. But since this is an Australian tv show I am hopeful...

Parker 09-14-2013 03:17 PM

I'm still feeling guilty about not having Big Boo in the poll, so here is another interview with Lea DeLaria where she is talking about the show, how people are recognizing her now, the infamous screwdriver, whether or not Natasha Lyonne is gay, being called a bulldyke, etc.

OITNB’s Lea DeLaria on the ‘Bulldyke’ Debate, Onscreen Masturbation, and Hitting on Natasha Lyonne

Oh, and I had no idea Jodie Foster directed the 3rd episode (Lesbian Request Denied) - I totally want to go watch that episode again now. LOL

Quote:

It is your dyke duty, you realize, to tell us about working with Jodie Foster [who directed episode three, “Lesbian Request Denied”].

I literally had one line, when I’m standing in line for pills. We did the first rehearsal, and Jodie came up and grabbed me by the shoulders and she goes, “You’re really very funny. You’re an incredibly funny actor. You move a lot” — my character is kind of nervous, that’s why she’s on meds — “I think that’s too much for this shot.” So I was like, I’ll tone it down. “And she’s like, 'We’re gonna keep the camera on you, and just throw out ten lines,' because the line was, 'Oh, I like the orange ones. Oh, wait a minute, they give me that terrible itch in my … ' That was the end of it. So I just chose the dot-dot-dot to be the vagina, and then every funny thing I could think of. I think take seven was “Kunta Kinte.” And Laverne [Cox, who plays Sophia] was behind me and she ruined the take because she burst out laughing when I said “Kunta Kinte.” And I was like, “Asshole, that would have been so brilliant!” And she was like, “Say it again!” and I was like, “No, no, no! I get ten takes. I’m gonna say something funny.” They ended up going with “cooter,” I believe.
