And do I really have to choose between fishing and not-fishing? What if I want to do both? (of course, I would need to impose on someone there to lend me a rod and reel for my fishing, as all of mine are still down in FL) APG |
Quote:
As long as you'll use a closed face reel, I'll bring everything you need to fish. I'm not sure what a fishing license costs, I don't even have mine yet, but will before I go fishing. Although, if in the afternoon, not sure fishing will be great, but I'm good with just hanging out, too. Let me know if you want to come out the night before. |
Yanno, if it works out right, I might just hitch along with APG for this!
Is there a firm place yet? What about: http://www.travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.3236 (Greenleaf SP) http://www.travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.7706 (Tenkiller SP) http://www.travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.422 (Beaver's Bend) |

This would be cool. We were looking for a place between Tusla/OKC and wherever everyone else lives. If we wait on Okiebug, we'll find out if the camper/river idea will pan out. I suggested Lake Thunderbird because I think someone lives in or near Shawnee, but I know little about the lakes here. Tenkiller is closer for ya'll coming from AR, but not sure it would work for everyone here. |

Se, you know the Lakes better than me. I wouldn't even mind if we just found a nice picnic area. I still like river fishing better, but will go wherever we all decide on. |
What about Lake Eufaula?
When I first came to OK, I was told fishing there is great and it's really a big lake. Tenkiller is much farther a drive, I think Vian is closer to Sallisaw and I don't want to spend most of my day driving. I'd still like to keep this gathering somewhere between OKC and Tulsa and or the Norman area. |

You have room for me if I come out the night before? Awwww, how cool is that??? APG |

ROAD TRIP!!!! |

Reminds me of when I lived in the Sanford FL area, really close to lake Jessup. That lake had more alligators in it than anywhere else in the world, per square mile. Lake Jessup fed right into Lake Monroe, which I lived next to. Have to say, I did have some whoppers of nightmares thinking about things crawling their way out of those lakes. |
OK
Does anyone oppose Lake Eufala? It's an hour or so south of Tulsa, and it's about 2 hours east of OKC. I know there's a State Park out there, in Checotah I think. There's also lodging from what I remember.
There's also Keystone State Park, which is only about an hour and a half from OKC, and about 30 min from Tulsa. I don't think the fishing is so great there, but it's a very convenient location, and they have a little meeting building I might be able to rent for a discount. JAGG, we are talking about the first Sunday in June from what I gather. Is everyone cool with that? APG, you're welcome to crash on my couch in Tulsa if you'd like to come down the night before. I have a brand new oven you're welcome to use as well for prepping your snackies. :-) |
I asked around at work today and even though it's in OKC, most everyone said the fishing is great at Lake Overholser along with wonderful picnic areas. The fish this lake has is, Black Bass, Sand Bass, Catfish, Striped Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass, Crappie, Walleye and Saugeye.
My boss recommended Chickasaw National Recreation Area. She said it had something for everyone and thought we'd all enjoy it. So, does anyone know this place? The way she described this place to me, made me want to pack my bags and spend the summer there, lol. I'm not sure where it is or how long it would take us to get there. Just me putting more suggestions out there to make our choices even more difficult to make. Why oh why hasn't Okiebug chimed in. |

Fishing at Keystone sucks. Most times, all I ever caught was a snag and lost my bait, in fact my whole darn set up :( The only pretty thing is the dam and all the nature that surrounds it. |
Quote:
Chickasaw looks gorgeous, but it's like 3 hours from Tulsa. |

I haven't had a chance to google it and see where it was. I suppose 3 hours sucks unless you're camping for the weekend there. My boss said it was a fabulous place and that no matter where everyone was coming from, she promised it would be worth it. Did I mention, she's American Indian and proud of that place. Her and her husband have fished there and gone exploring. I'll have to put it on my list of places I want to see in OK. |
I also want to go see Turner Falls because it has the biggest waterfall in OK
All I need is to find someone with Sundays off and wants to go exploring It'll help if I can find them in OKC There's a whole lot of beautiful in OK |

I saw the mention of Eufaula as a possible place, I'm not a huge fan of the place but if it will help more people be able to make it then I'm game. |

I'm good with anywhere except it would be much nicer to be able to car pool with another if travel takes a couple hours. It would be nice if we could come up with a place that's about 60-90 minutes of driving time for any of us. I want to have time to hang out and get to know others and still be able to fish a little if possible. Since I'm not native to OK and don't really know my way around well or what lakes and rivers could work for us as a group, I'll have to just kick back and let those that know decide what's best for us. |

Coming in from AR, I have a drive anyway, so it doesn't really matter to me, as long as it's not a lot further west from OKC.
I will leave the deciding to you guys, since I really don't know much about OK. (being a NE Cornhusker fan, I usually just stayed away from your state! LOL) APG, ducking! |

Who are they? LoL That's a funny name for a team. |

I have a 4 door pick up (snall back seat) and can pick someone up for car pooling. The mall in Shawnee is a great place to park. Its easy to find and get on and off of the highway. |
Sportsman Lake
OK, there is a place called Sportsman Lake Recreation Area just outside of Seminole. This would be about an hour and a half from OKC and 2 hours from Tulsa.
Check out the website, and let me know what you think. They have a pavilion with water and electric, and plenty of fishing spots around the lake. I thought of this place because I've been to a retreat nearby at St. Crispins, which was beautiful, but I have never been to the lake. http://sportsmanlake.com/index.html |

If you're willing to drive 2 hours from Tulsa, you might already come to OKC and Lake Overholser. Should we get out of towners that want to come and spend a weekend, there is a Motel 6 nearby that is not to old and has a swimming pool, decently priced. It may be an easier way to draw others to OK this way. |

So the out of state people need to speak up on a location they would like. If anyone wants to car pool with me, we can meet before then so you will know I am not a freaky werido.
I also wanted to ask is this going to be an adult females only event? What about family members and children? |
my vote...
I vote no kids. That way we can have grown up conversations! :winky:
|
This is sounding like fun! It would give me an excuse to get to OK City to see Wolfy! Count me in! (well hopefully i can work it out)
|

I think we could still have adult conversation and have children there. When I did Wichita, kids were welcome and I brought the boy child then (18 and adult, now living in another state near his mom). He spent his time fishing until he had a fish so big on his line, it snapped his pole and he lost it. So, I'm good with or without children there. After all, I am a big kid myself, most days. Too bad the adult has to come out in me to go to work, lol. |

Kerrie, those of you coming from AR could carpool and if you come out the night before, ya'll could share a room at the Motel 6 and I would come visit and we could go swimming...perhaps with enough of us, take over the pool for a couple hours. Looks like we have 3 maybes from AR This could turn out great if we ever figure out where we'll do this. |
okie dokie
OK, so it sounds like Lake Overholser in OKC works. I'll likely be down the night before, so if you don't mind me taking over the pool with y'all, I might come join you!
Do we know if there is a pavilion or area where we can have our potluck? |
All I can do is link you and let you read about it as I don't know much about any of the lakes around here.
I do think you have to have a city permit on top of your fishing license to fish in OKC. http://www.outdoorsok.com/Oklahoma/Overholser |
If everyone is ok with this, we should put the date up in a post, so others have time to decide.
I'd even post it in AR, KS and TX threads for anyone who might be interested. That way if anyone wants to come the night before, we can help them find a room or a roommate. |
I don't mind kids as long as the parents of those those kids keep them in check. I am not into having to act a certain way because kids are around. I respect those in our community that have kids but I am not into changing who I am because I don't.

The first Sunday in June would make it the 3rd.
If anyone is not good with this day, please post and let us know what works for you. If you're coming from a neighboring state and would like to come up on Saturday, I know an inexpensive motel located in a great area and not real far from the lake. I can go out to the lake and check out picnic areas before the date unless someone has a better suggestion. If someone knows how the fishing license and city permit work, please post info here. Also, prices for OK residents and non residents. |
Wolfy, June 3 is fine for me. Another suggestion is that we may be able to gin a spot to camp at instead of renting a hotel room. I will check out the link that you provided!
|
I'm not liking this idea of having to get two fishing permits! What the hell is that?
|
The fishing license for a non-resident in oklahoma is $35.00 for 6 days. They do not sell 1 or 3 days license.
Also, if we go to a city lake there is an additional permit required. Im not sure about the cost though. The person that i talked to at the OK wildlife said that these permits should be sold at the lake. I hope this information is helpful. |
I think if we get enough people at this gathering, I may opt out of fishing, so I can engage in conversation while we're all together.
I may find other things entertaining besides fishing. |
