When I win Lotto or Euromillions count me in...as long as you're somewhere it never dips below 65degF and has managable humidity.

I want these fabulous people to build my dwelling. Their houses are really cool. I love that they use all the old 'technologies'.
http://naturalhomes.org/amazonails.htm
My housemate is one of the team and her partner is the boss.

Transferrable skills *strokes chin thoughtfully* ...Bread. I'd love to keep the community supplied with artisan breads. Soda, pitta, rye, bagels, sourdough, brioche......crusty bloomer anyone? :chef:

Happy to provide entertainment too. I no long work as a singer/guitarist but am still a half decent living room musician :groucho:

Also would love to learn about keeping bees and providing local honeys to help folks with allergies to local pollens.

Bread
Music
Honey

Deal?

I would also like my house to be within safe walking distance of my BFFF's house...you know, we drink a little and would be able to just stumble home.

We want to be kinda close to the brewery that Weatherboi will be runnin'....we may or may not be his best customers; much like Norm and Cliffy!

Might as well suggest that we are put at the rowdy end of town...we like to throw parties on occasion! (ask the staff at the Peabody or that place in Dallas where the po-po showed up 5 times in one night!)

Apocalipstic 10-24-2011 03:16 PM

Let's all focus on this so it just manifests!

Maybe I just have jealousy issues for those of you that got to go to the reunion, because for us, we really WANTED to go, but didn't HAVE the time. I'm sure you're not implying non attendees just couldn't be bothered to attend? I'm just reading this through my sensitive filter?

Beautiful Idea

I would not at this point in my life be able to relocate. What we could do is buy a time share in the Compound Vacation Club! I would love:

A swimming hole or pool
A community theater where we could stage productions and invite in the greatest queer artists to teach and perform.
A family center
A health center where all bodies would feel accepted and cared for
A senior center and places where older folks can age in place surrounded by Family who understand and love them
An animal shelter
A place to worship that is welcoming to all

I am a former professional house cleaner and I love organizing and cleaning. I have many computer skills and love databases and spreadsheets.

I think it was a statement where you can't reverse it in order to derive the inverse meaning. I read it more like, troublemakers wouldn't take the time to come all that way. Not that people who didn't go are troublemakers.

But I was there. :)

And I think I behaved even - reformed troublemaker that I am.

I have been thinking about what color my parachute is and the two things that come up are that I love old people and animals. I am still trying to figure out how that translates to work. I am not medical professional material! But I am really passionate about older folks being to age gracefully and with dignity and that is even more of an issue for our community. Thanks for posting this article!

Can I be the keeper of everything Baby Jesus?
I just LOVE Baby Jesus **
I will put him away during dungeon day/nights.

Artdecogoddess 10-24-2011 08:14 PM

I love all the ideas so far - as well as all the multi-purpose spaces (is that the right word :praying:?)

I will also propose that we have a small tea room restaurant/bookstore type space. This will hopefully bring in money for all as well as place to hang out and to read and chill.

I offer to read cards for folks :tarot: I bet Teh Arwen would as well.

Still crashing from reunion and dreaming the fantasy of the island.

I would.

Except my nighttime pills AND nyquil kicked in about 30 min ago and I was stuck dealing with a situation when it happened.

Maybe tomorrow I'd draw.

I love this idea, though mine might be more of a collage :)

Maybe you could do one and it could be in raffle next time after we meditate over it to make it happen! :)

Awesome thread. Sounds like a great idea, I think I would want it more as a retirement village community. I think community Dinners would be awesome. I could contribute too. I can run a backhoe, or a grader, or a dozer and dumptruck and a semi. So I could help level the land to build on. I have never built a house but I have remodeled scores of houses, I am a member in good standing with Tulsa Home Remodelers Assoc. I can install anything on the inside. Drywall tile doors windows molding cabinets tubs toilets fixtures lights outlets .I can build a decorative fireplace any carpentery, counter tops etc texture spray . I never framed a house or bricked one or done much concrete work. But I have done everything else. Also I'm a small engine mech. So I can fix mowers weedeaters boats etc. And I'm an expert car detailer!
Can we have a golf course? And a heated saltwater pool ? And a nice gym? Some biking and running trails. Maybe a nice club house with a huge dance floor and lots of seating with a stocked bar. And a huge theather room for movies and to watch football together or MMA fights whatever. Would be great to have a Dr. And RN on staff. I'm sure I will think of more but that is good for now.

Apocalipstic 10-27-2011 08:03 AM

It would be so great to be able to have coffee right now with all my buddies!

Arwen 10-27-2011 10:09 AM

I'd like a toolbelt butch OR femme at my place. I have an electrical issue.

When we all live on the land together, we have to remember to pay each other what we are worth in hugs and barter if nothing else. I say we do some internet marketing and run a Handyke service.

SoNotHer 10-27-2011 10:58 AM

Your resident permaculturalist is at your service.

I'll ensure -

the soil is happy

the plants are happy

the birds and the bees are happy

your bellies are happy (good, nutrient-dense food)

we're working with the natural ecoystem

we're "stacking functions" (as in combining greenhouses with chicken coops or using )

we're using resources on the land to build "Post Peak Oil," climate-change ready homes that require zero to minimal heating/cooling (think cordwood homes, adobes, straw bale)

we have rain catchment and filtering systems in place

we are producing our own honey, fruit, nuts and vegetables,

and finally, I'll help ensure it looks and feels like paradise. :-)

SleepyButch 10-03-2012 09:58 PM

Would you want to live on a BFP compound? Definitely

What skills can you contribute? Being an RN, I can offer my medical skills. I am also really good with animals.. I whisper to them daily, sometimes yell also.

Would you want to do community meals every night in the "Mess Hall"? This could definitely be an option. Maybe offer to go orders as well for those folks who just can't stay for dinner but need to eat.

Would people still need to pay something into the system like rent, even if it was only nominal? I think it would be a good idea to pay a nominal fee. Or services could be bartered or set like on a point system. You cook three times a week and you get free meals for the whole week... etc.

Do you think you'd get tired of living with family all year long? What family doesn't get tired of each other? If you have 400 acres available, set aside 100 acres or so in the back 40 for those who need seclusion. People could camp out there or we could build some cabins that come work by first come first serve type of deal.

What pro's and con's can you see to this idea? Pros would be we can be ourselves no matter what. We all have many skills, life experiences to offer. We could learn from each other.
Cons: You can wind up cutting yourself off from the rest of the world, but hey, sometimes that is not a bad thing. We could still come and go with a secret handshake or something.

What input do you have?

A creek or stream would be nice. Disagreements can happen when in close proximity. Have some type of system to handle such arguments if the two people can't handle them on their own... sort of like timing them out!
