This was playing on the radio as I was leaving Savannah for MCRD Parris Island in Feb '79.....
In The Heart Of The Night -- Poco In the heart of the night In the cool southern rain There's a full moon in sight Shinin' down on the Pontchartrain And the river she rises Just like she used to do She's so full of surprises She reminds me of you In the heart of the night In the heart of the night In the heart of the night Oh, down in New Orleans There's a night bird singing Right on through till the dawn And the streets are still ringing With people carrying on It's been so long waiting Just to be here again Anticipating All the time I could spend In the heart of the night In the heart of the night In the heart of the night Oh, down in New Orleans And I trust in your love Never fallin' down And I trust in your love Just like I do in this town Oh, never fallin' down Oh, never fallin' down In the heart of the night In the cool fallin' rain There's a full moon in sight Shinin' down on the Pontchartrain And the river she rises Just like she used to do She's so full of surprises (oh mama) She reminds me of you (right here) In the heart of the night In the heart of the night In the heart of the night Oh, down in New Orleans And I'm so glad to be back in New Orleans Please don't wake me, don't shake me If it's only, if it's only just a dream Cause it's the only place that I can face It makes me feel so right Below that Dixie moon and lovin' you In the heart of the night ~Theo~ :winky::listening::bouquet: |
[COLOR="Teal"]For those gals waiting for their guys - whether they're in the service, or just states away, this song's for you. Mayby a little 'old-fashioned' for modern ears, but the lyrics are still great! Give a listen, put all your 'modern' prejudices away.COLOR]

1950's, or 2010, Anita's voice and style is immortal!! She's as fresh today as she was then!! Thank God for you Anita!!

Julie London, married to Jack Webb of 'Dragnet' fame. They eventually divorced, I think. But Miss London was an exceptional singer appreciated in her day, but little known today. I think her claim to fame is her sultry and original rendition of: 'Cry Me A River'.

My stomach growling after posting in the "I'm Craving Junk Food" Thread...

Only 'cause I caught this on TCM

Of course loveEtta James - she's an icon!
Here to add to the list...my small token. Quote:

Patti LaBelle (live)
|
I love Anita O'Day; Gene Krupa's singer.
Biggest recordings: Drum Boogie Let Me off Uptown I'm Not Lonely (is a great song. pure swank) Bolero at the Savoy (good jitterbug with a screamin' trumpet) She also recorded a vocal version of Opus One. I listen to it on a compilation quite a bit. good stuff |
James Yuill -- No Surprise
|
Not a big fan of Patti, but a big fan of *your* music! Bring it on, Big Boy!! :)

Not a big name here in the States, but a big singing star in 1960's Britain. I love her style and her angelic voice - it is like no other. Too sad she was wrenched from us so soon - she died in her 30's...
|
This version is awesome!
|
Disco anyone? |

|
[B]OK, I'm done with the 'pussy footing' around. Time to bring out the 'big guns'...SALSA. baby!! And here's one of the best!! Come on, get your groove on!!!
