.....Cream of the Crop.....

Cream rises to the top of milk, which always fascinated me as a young girl because milking cows on our dairy farm took up early morning and late afternoon's, which didn't leave much time for anything else. BUT,,,,,, the idiom cream of the crop largely refers to the best of the best ..... Crème de la Crème.

.....Dèjá Vu......

Very similar to the lyrics of an song popularized by Dionne Warwick, the phrase Dèjá Vu is typically associated with unusual psychological phenomena pertaining to something currently happening, which was experienced in the past in nearly the same way (an recollection of memory).

Ran into this saying at my Partner's brother's house. It was said to a dog who was misbehaving. Had never heard it before, and laughed myself crazy.

He is a redhead and so am I.

"I'm going to beat you like a redheaded stepchild if you don't stop doing that right now."

"Beat you like a redheaded stepchild" is apparently a regionalism here in the NY North Country.

If you say that there is safety in numbers, you mean that you are safer doing something if there are a lot of people doing it rather than doing it alone. The idea that one is less likely to be harmed while in a group than by oneself.

A situation that, once started, is likely to become problematic. To attempt to solve one problem, or to do something, that creates a whole litany of other problems that were not there in the first place.

That's definitely an journalistic writing cliché, for sure!
Kind of like "Pandora's Box".... which finds its mythological roots in the same vein as Aesop fables, I imagine! :hangloose:

Generally referring to someone going from average mental output to a better, more genius level of thought.

Sidebar:
Gas cookers began to replace wood-burners around 1915, and the actual phrase was used by Hollywood radio comedians around December 1939, and then appropriated by gas companies to promote gas cooking from around 1941 onwards. The phrase has been attributed to Deke Houlgate, who after working in the gas industry, wrote the line for Bob Hope
