A Personal Favourite by Frost
 

I LOVE poetry; I always have. When I did my student teaching MANY years ago, poetry was my favourite section to teach. I had considered a career in Middle Grades Education (with concentrations in English and Science) but allowed my fears of being fired or "blackballed" for being a transman to end this dream. There are several poets that I adore, but my favourite is likely Robert Frost. Ten points if you can also guess the '80's movie where this poem was featured in a tearful ending by one of the dying main characters.


Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.

It was in the movie, The Outsiders. Robert Frost is one of my favorites also.

My sister deposited on my desk today a picture off her daily cat calendar. The quote simply said, "It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not".

She gave me this and told me to go do well on my exam because she knows I can do it.
