Steamed
Mustard Relish Onions And......celery salt !!! |
First squirt ketchup ,yellow mustard and goldens dark mustard on the bun. Then the dog goes on. Then smother it with finely minced white onion, then cover that with chili (no bean ever) then cover that with saurkraut and compress it down real hard to pack it all tightly together. And enjoy ! That is how I like them.

I like either: ~mustard, sauerkraut & sauce (the kind that most hot dog places have) ***OR*** ~mustard topped with chili (meat only please) I do not eat ketchup on them at all and do not vary from the two choices above. I am really picky about hot dogs when they are good, they are yummy but when they are bad, gross. :sparklyheart: |
depends on my location
Beach dogs have to be grilled and topped with ketchup, mustard, onions, and sweet relish.
Ballpark dogs need only ketchup and mustard, but it must be accompanied with a warm ballpark beer in a paper cup. Home dogs get ketchup, mustard, onion, sweet relish, cheese and chili. NY city street vendor dogs get chefs choice because they each have their own special way of making them and topping them. Movie hotdogs get nothing cause i am not paying 9 dollars for a hotdog!!! |
just yellow mustard and occasionally diced onions.

Grilled wiener heaven to me:
Mayo Tomato wedges Dill relish Ketchup Stone ground mustard Fresh ground pepper https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...73717359_n.jpg |
Smother, hover and cover it with everything ya got.
Mayo, mustard, ketchup, pickle relish, chili, onions, chili peppers and anything else that is handy. BUT...one condition... I can eat it to about 1 inch from the end. When the hotdog is gone and all that is left if the ooey gooey wet bread, i'm done. They just don't make them wieners long enough. What a crazy world we live in. |
I buy beef hot dogs or brats for home. . and smother mayo, ketchup, little mustard, diced onions and peppers, relish, cheese, sauerkraut on them. .
unless I feel like chili cheese dogs then I'll add some onions and mustard with it.. |
mayo with a little mustard and ketchup. every now and then a bit of dill relish. i don't eat hot dogs very often so i tend to always eat the same thing on them. sometimes if i'm at a restaurant with special toppings i'll add cheese and maybe sauteed shrooms or onions. i want to branch out and try weird things but i'm a pansy when it comes to hot dogs (or burgers)...i like what i like and i tend to stick to that cause i'm always craving it.
i also prefer hebrew national because that way i know it doesn't have pork. :) thankfully most vendors and restaurants i've been to nowadays use hebrew national. |

That's why you get the extra long bun length ones. |
OK, where to start. Out here we have hot dogs and we have wieners... and yes they are indeed different.
A hot dog: it's about 6" long....made of beef we often find them at ball games, throw one on the grill during a summer cookout etc. Served on either a steamed, grilled, or right out of the bag bun. For me during such days Ketchup is a must and sometimes onions. A Wiener: it's about 5" long.... made of veal and pork placed in a steamed bun, then topped with a meat sauce seasoned with a myriad of spices like cumin, paprika, chili powder and allspice, which is itself covered in finely chopped onions, celery salt and yellow mustard |
