2. Too many years of covering too many teams has left me unable to really be much of a sports fan these days. However, I do still follow my Braves.
3. I still know and am friends with people I met more than 12 years ago in an aol chat room.

Before that? all I ever knew was the spanish version of "give me water, where's the bathroom, don't fuck with me"
unfortunately, i told the last bit to my very conservative gramma when we arrived*she wanted to tickle me*...
:spank:

2- I'm profoundly Deaf, but it was Progressive..by the age of 6 I was classified by many teachers as a "lost cause"...

Gemme 01-27-2010 09:55 PM

Welcome to group.........

1. I am very much the Gemini (not so difficult to see) in that I have a very lighthearted, happy side (again, not so difficult to see) but I also have a very deep, dark side that most people don't see. That is not by chance, either. I don't like having it, so I know others won't like seeing it.

2. Until recently, I was somewhat obsessed with NOT becoming my mother. For those that don't know, my mom was a paranoid schizophrenic. Thankfully, due (in part) to my fascination with shows like House, ER, Mercy...etc....I have come to learn (and more importantly, accept) that the older I get, the likelihood that I will develop the condition diminishes. It wouldn't be so bad for me, I suppose, but the remainder of my family would be devastated.

3. I struggle with S.A.D. and find myself very frustrated with those that cannot grasp the concept and/or don't take the time to try to understand the significance it has on my life not only in general, but especially this time of year.

4. I have no patience for those that have no patience for me. Hypocritical? Yes. Apologies? None.

5. Drunk people, especially men and very masculine members of our community, simultaneously annoy and terrify me. This has increased with age. As a child and up to around age 12, I could drink anyone under the table without getting drunk myself (and did). I've actually never been drunk. I had no issues with going to bars and events where alcohol flowed easily in my early 20s but now that I am in my mid-thirties...I tend to purposely avoid places where I know there will be alcohol or go with a group of trusted people, but even in that case....I don't like it.

owen4u1904 01-27-2010 10:44 PM

My 5 items....

You dont know me too well yet...so here is some random things bout me.

1) I love Bye Bye Birdie...

Rook 01-27-2010 11:34 PM

I've been on Dialysis for 3 1/2 yrs...

I despise..Utterly...being even Mildly Cold unless it's very hot outside, and yes I will be exceedingly grouchy and unbearable until I'm comfortable.....

I believe in Chivalry at all times....until you hurt me, or piss me off.

I was raised Islamic while my parents were married, at the age of 7 I discovered a different religion, which left a lifelong impression for me..Buddhism, I wasnt allowed to visit anymore after the neighbor took me to some dharma center off base w/o his permission...after the divorce, mum's family.....hmm...overwhelmed me with their diversity...Catholics, hidden Sephardi, Santeria{this one i already knew, but..in-depth was...wow}, Pentecostals...

I'm a chocoholic...I'm not just throwing the word around...I'll indulge in the occasional Twix, if Im 'desperate'..Otherwise...? Belgians, Swiss, German...Sometimes French..

I'm diagnosed with Dyscalculia..

I met 75% of my friends in an AOL Chat room we were all regulars in. two of them lived in the same town and others all around but we would all meet up to discuss the artists we all loved. to this day we are all still close and and and 2 of them are coming to see my in 2 weeks.

it's great! :D :D :D

Lynn 01-29-2010 04:30 PM

1. I pretended I was sick so often when I was younger that now it's hard to take a sick day from work without feeling guilty.

2. I almost failed high school in my senior year, despite getting all A's, because I missed so many days.

3. A quality I love in my partner is that she routinely helps elderly and disabled people that she sees when she's out and about. I don't find her need to feed the poor, freezing squirrels as endearing! :)

4. I love to dance and wish I could go dancing more often.

5. Somehow I managed to find a job that pays pretty well and has flexible hours. I'm still getting used to the lower stress--it's actually been a difficult adjustment. Guilt, again. What is that about?

*grin* Awesome, yes?
Earlier this year, I got to meet in person, for the first time, a dear friend that I have known for 12 years. It totally rocked. It was almost surreal.

Write14u 01-29-2010 04:49 PM

1. I work really well on deadline and always make them. However, when I have days to write a story, I find that I put it off until it's on deadline. I'm doing that right now. Procrastination, much?
2. I love what I do, but the pay sucks so badly that I'm considering going a total different direction in profession. Numbers, anyone?
3. I'm pretty proficient singing and playing the guitar on Rock Band, but my drumming leaves much to be desired. And all those years of air drumming, I thought I had rhythm. *grin*
4. I mentally run through the things in my life whenever I'm sitting here trying to compose these lists. Nine times out of 10, my lists come from things I see here in my living room.
5. If left up to me, my television might never get turned on.

purepisces 01-29-2010 07:05 PM

1. I’ve never met any of my relatives on my father’s side of the family.

2. I volunteer with an animal rescue group that helps provide low cost spay/neuter.

3. My parents didn’t allow me to go to college after high school because we had to prepare for Armageddon.

4. I have not set foot inside a church in the last nineteen years, with the exception of several cathedrals in England.

5. I LOVE making lists. I make lists about everything. I have even made a list of lists I would like to make.

Nina 01-30-2010 08:08 PM

to begin...

1. I have a mustard thing...yes, mustard! I don't eat it that much but can't resist it when I find great, interesting, imported or gourmet mustards on crazy sale. At the moment there are 65 jars tucked away in the cupboard (okay, okay there might be another dozen up there)...the other day I went into a store which often has it...I got a gut feeling, but I steeled myself against temptation....I turned the corner and my heart dropped...why? there were lovely jars of a french preserve I love...now 18 jars of it are sitting next to the mustard...I gave the 12 jars of honey to my son...I was making my own homemade mustard for a while, but that seemed to be extreme---even for me!

2. I love to organize, and I'm good at it...I can find space where there is no space...it relaxes me...sooner or later most everyone I know asks me to give them an organizational hand...I'm always glad to do so...

3. I'd like to listen to the radio but I can't bear all the talking! One of my professional demands is that I listen to people talk...my preferred way for people to communicate to me is through interpretive dance !! ;>

4. I do not own even one pair of pants...all I wear are dresses

5. I think I lied about my height on my DL since I am shorter than it says...I am also lighter than listed...I worry that if I am kidnapped they will be looking for a taller, heavy woman and that's not me!

Write14u 02-01-2010 08:34 PM

1. For some reason, I have to think hard to remember which is the symbol for female and which is for male. Not sure why. *grin*
2. My sister paid for me to get my ears pierced for Christmas my freshman year of high school. I forgot I had a basketball game that night. Got my first start that night and the ear rings had to come out. That didn't hurt nearly as bad as putting them back in 2 hours later.
3. My favorite picture of myself is one of me wearing a backwards Braves cap, (former) curls spilling out and a devil-may-care smile. I think it captures my personality completely.
4. My all-time favorite movie is Casablanca.
5. I can't pick a favorite song because my musical taste is far to eclectic.

Soft*Silver 02-01-2010 09:10 PM

I have two new floor model industrial sewing machines (juki for those who care) and a regular home machine, and although I sew most every day, I send out all my dresses to be hemmed...I really can't stand that kind of sewing...the girl at the dry cleaners store laughs at me all the time...but, let's be honest--who actually Wants to hem a dress?...not I said the little red hen (wink icon)

I taught at standford university in the english department (many years ago) one of the students who didn't like me wrote a scathing review of the class...his last line was "what can you expect?...she's from new york and she's a Jew!!"...I think that weakened his argument...

Write14u 02-13-2010 12:12 AM

1. (Taking inspiration from Neen above) ... I have won two things in my life. I won a CD from a radio station. I also was the lucky caller at the local radio station of the town I had just moved to. It was a birthday contest. I won $100 for my birthday being in my month, but almost won $1000. The day they called out specifically was one day off my birthday. Funniest part was I was so new to the city, that I didn't know the station's call letters, which is pretty embarrasing when they're like, "Soooo, tell us who just made you a winner?" <crickets>
