Käthe Kollwitz -she's underappreciated, I think. Maybe people don't like the woodblock prints as much anymore

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...faab8ba32d.jpg Kathe Kollwitz. Death Seizing a Woman. 1934. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...d8dcccd6b1.jpg https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...c17b2feae0.jpg Käthe Kollwitz mother with her dead child. Very raw consider she herself lost her son in WWI and her grandson in WWII. https://ka-perseus-images.s3.amazona...3c346b3788.jpg Käthe Kollwitz, Memorial Sheet. She rarely depicted real people, but this is for Karl Communist leader Karl Liebknecht during an uprising of 1919. It doesn't glorify his ideology even though she was a supporter. |

This is Manet not Monet
I think Manet is so much more interesting than Monet. Don't you?
What I especially like about his work is how it was rejected and criticized so often during his time his time but he just kept going. The so-called experts said his perspective was 'off' and his art didn't make sense. Well, duh. They didn't realize that he did it all intentionally! That is not to say Edouard Manet was a nice guy. Probably not. But he was very effective at revealing a deep story about the period and the people he painted. Anyway, you should all read about Manet if you're interested in art at all. You can't really 'get it' unless you know something about the place and time. One of his best paintings (imo) has nudity. It's called The Luncheon on the Grass. :sunglass: You can find it here along with some good biographical info. I mean, Monet is nice too but how many scenes of flowers or ladies in rowboats do we really need to see? Amiright? https://waldinadotcom.files.wordpres...et-1.jpg?w=762 |
