In the market for a new tux. I do wear them fairly often, I have found and think investing in a more well-made one is a good idea. I like to go to all the formals during the Holidays and I plan on going to the next ReUnion.
I can't go nuts on price, but think I can find a good deal on some of the better brands and fabric. Anyone have suggestions about this? I might go double-breasted, but have to see when trying them on. I want a more light weight tux. Thinking classic cuts are best as I will wear it with different ties, vests, etc and hope to get good wear out of it. I do want to buy it where it can be fitted and altered right there. There is always the men's Warehouse, I guess. But, maybe some of you have other suggestions? |
At Last...
I dont know about where you are from but here a lot of bridal shops have great selection of tux's and of course measure and alter there... |

I suggest (since you're investing for the long-term) a simple style that is timeless. -100% wool -one- or two-button -notch lapel (but I think you, ALH, would really dig a shawl lapel) Personally, I'd steer clear of a double-breasted. Have fun!! |
also check out a men's formal rental place - you might be able to get a good quality used tux.

I get my suits from Jos A Bank Men Clothiers ... anything else ---> it is men's area in Banana Republic.
BR has some great new style khakis in a variety of colors right now. If anyone is interested, they are Gavin and Dawson style and sit a little lower on the waist (actually they are down on your hips) than that of previous Gavin's and Dawson's. Very reasonably priced too. Side Note: With the horrible heat we had this past summer, I was an ice cream eating fool but the yardwork kept it so the ice cream was not affecting me. Well, I have not done any yardwork in a month and kept up the same intake on the ice cream. Just this week I had to go buy size 32 in the men's Dawson style because the size 31 became uncomfortable to button the top button. I had 3 buckets of ice cream in my buggy at the grocery store this past weekend. I was so proud of myself because I put every one of them back in the freezer just before I went to the check out line. Made me kind of sad. The dogs are disappointed too. We'll make it ... somehow ... I think. Just have to tighten up, suck it up and go on. LOL! |

Probably go over to the Castro so I will feel comfy trying them on and being fitted. Although I am getting tired of the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area, for this it is good to be close to SF. Thanks Thinker and Thanks All!!! Some good ideas! |
Agreeing with Thinker about the double-breasted. I have one db suit and won't buy another simply because it is aggravating and kind of uncomfortable to negotiate sitting down. I don't know - maybe it is just me.

I have one double breasted tic jacket. Has vents, a pair. No problem sitting. Hmmm. Not sure what to say. I'll try on some ... and see.
|
Anyone try out the high collared shirts? I really like the looks of these ... and, I have a long neck, so maybe this is good for me.
I've been cruising eBay lately. There's interesting stuff on the site. But since you can't try on .... don't know if that will be a problem. Can't tell the taper of most pants when they are folded, and can't determine the rise, either. Anyone shop on eBay? |
jeans and t-shirts most of the time; either vintage, designer "factory" stores or ... well i'm just to mean to spend a fortune on clothes, but i have a tight eye for style and it matters to me. cargo pants. button down shirts. all from the men's department. customised, funky suit jackets. boots, sneakers, bare feet. men's pyjamas.
|
I have a casual style. Just jeans and t-shirts. Sometimes button downs. I don't like shorts. Not sure why. If I get a career I'd really, really like to wear men suits. So that should be interesting.

FYI - all posts cut/pasted with parts taken out 'cause too long otherwise and I don't think that any meaning was missed by doing so. Please let me know if any offense taken and I won't do it again! The dots (...) indicates where editing occurred

(but personally, I'm not too big on the double breasted, either). :) |

sometimes ill wear my tux shirt "that the sleeves are neatly torn out of" and leather jeans with matching sport coat |
Here to join the casual brigade :P I prefer to stick to jeans/cargos and t-shirts/longsleeves/sweatshirts. When dressing up I'm kind of like cody in that I tend to go for the "good jeans." Will wear dress shirts/button downs, polos etc., and dress pants if needed, but really not into the whole suit thing. Luckily I work at a job where the dress code = sports wear.
But...have my first work Christmas party soon and while we don't have to get dressed up to the nines, I'm guessing the usual work clothes won't cut it lol So will have to figure out what to wear for that...ugh |
for me
I found that I like the sweaters that have the zipper that goes to about mid chest and then would wear a turtle neck or a dress shirt and tie and a pair of nice jeans or my dress slacks and motorcycle boots.
for cas: it is Jeans and tennies and my ball cap and my hoodies |
Its been so long since I've seen a real live butch I would not care if they were wearing a torn up t-shirt and a pair of winnie the pooh boxers!
