I will add one of the many things that gross me out.

Inevitably, I am sitting at a light and just to pass the time, I turn my head to take a quick peek at the scenery and what do I see:

nose pickers to the right of me and nose pickers to the left of me.

In restaurants when someone blows their nose and then proceeded to place the dirty Kleenex on a empty plate!

OR WORSE YET........

Someone who blows their nose in the nice cloth napkin the restaurant provides for wiping ones mouth!

When you're at the store and you grab a product and something wet is on it and you have no idea what it is! :|

I have to sanitize my hands like 10 times and find a sink to wash them in.

And my GF wonders why I hate to touch elevator buttons (one of the most germy) handrails or grocery carts. At least the grocery store has wipes for the cart handles.

And a 19-page syllabus grosses me the fuck out!!

California has toilet seat protectors in virtually all bathrooms.

Because some states do not not have them when I travel and it totally grosses me out to sit on toilet seats without them (and sometimes they are wet-yuck) I bought a little travel pack of toilet seat covers that I keep in my purse.

My GF died of laughter when I showed her.

I have done this before. When you are forced to use a toilet that looks like it's going to not only eat your stuff but you in the process, I advise it!

Having said that.....the majority of bathroom germs are not on the toilets but are on the toilet paper dispensers and the door latches.

Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you and you should be good on all fronts.

Oh yes! I should have also added it grosses me out to see people come out of the toilet and not wash their hands!

Even worse, for me, is that people wash their hands and then open the door with their bare hands!

OMG! You are touching the handle after all the people that did not wash their hands. I always use a paper towel to open the door after I wash my hands in the bathroom!

GF refuses to do this.

She is the one that never gets sick and I do.

Whaaat?

Lol if it's not automatic flushing I use my foot to flush. And yes once hands are washed I will not touch anything without a paper towel.

At work I wash my hands. Open the door with paper towels and still go back to my desk and use hand sanitizer.

grenade 08-21-2016 11:08 AM

The smell of the grocery store, especially nearing the meat section. All I smell is blood.

The smell of meat cooking.

The smell of cigarettes.

Unfresh breath be it from dog or child.

Leftover food that sits in the fridge for more than a day.

Oily skin.

Been thinking about this...half seriously:

Is there really an epidemic of people dying from "Restroom Door Handle Germs" ?Any nation that uses bits of paper to smear stuff around its privates instead of washing with water surely should examine the the first steps in the problem rather than the last. Carry a canteen at all times.

Lmao..... Well this is quite amusing.

No epidemic that I'm aware HOWEVER I do not like the idea of other people's germs. For starters you have cold/flu/viruses that could be caught. And I prefer to not get sick. Now true these germs can be on any door handle and surfaces but I keep hand sanitizer in my car. Also there's the possibility of fecal bacteria on hands that have touched said door because they don't wash their hands.

It's the knowledge that some people are gross.

You knew I would just have to go look this up, didn't you?

I will spare you the whole article but the title of this Scientific American article is:

"Public bathrooms house thousands of bacteria"

http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/...s-of-bacteria/

Nuff' said and yes, I will keep on keeping on using toilet seat protectors and paper towels to open bathroom doors.

I will put myself out here for more laughter to tell you; I also cover my finger with a clean Kleenex to push the elevator buttons now.

:nurseshot:

As a nurse, once you know these things, if you have any OCD at all: you just can't unknow them.

Eat dirt.

Or lick your fingers without washing them first.

Germs are like vaccines. You need to ingest a little bit to inoculate yourself against the majority of them.

If you are so strict about not coming into contact with germs, you are actually weakening your immune system.

So sayeth the mud pie eater.

Once one has had C-Diff and MRSA, one no longer cares about inoculation.

Well, except for vaccines, that is.

Prevention becomes the name of the game.

I get that. Hospitals are the worst places because all of that stuff is floating around and all it takes is one orderly or one doctor or nurse to not switch gloves or not scrub well enough and it starts a chain reaction of contagion. Actually, hospitals kind of gross me out if you think about all of the biological and medical waste that is in one. No shortage of bodily fluids there!

We practiced the 5 second rule a lot in our house. Maybe that helped. I became a lot healthier and stronger once I got out on my own. My mother and her husband smoked crazy wild and I spent basically my whole 5th year in hospitals. Maybe that helped. Who knows? Our bodies are strange and mystical things sometimes.

When I see a woman wearing sandals, who has not taken care of her feet. The sight of dry, cracked, dirty heels really grosses me out!

They just don't take care of themselves.

They say that is the dirtiest part of the bathroom because of that (I do it too...especially after I learned the above!).

It sucks when they only have blowers, so you can't use a paper towel to turn off the water or open the door.

Nope. Wrong!

For you and Anya....the toilet seat and door handles are the cleanest surfaces in most bathrooms...however, this is what you must avoid touching and no one ever thinks about it except the janitor.

Yes that does suck!! I usually awkwardly use my pinky or somethin to open the door. Then sanitize multiple times. Or if others are in there catch it with my foot when they open it.

I touch door handles in public restrooms and I am not ashamed.

Yes, I'm a big grabber with the foot too. If I do have to touch the door handle I grab it at the very bottom. People tend to grab the middle or upper half of a door handle.

Gemme, of course the floor is the very worst! I have held things in my hands while I squated over a toilet rather than put them down on the ground. And yes, I read that the seat is safe. I have heard that before. I hadn't heard that about the door handle, though.

Door handles.....

That depends on what articles you read. Some say it has the least germs/bacteria and some say it's one of the surfaces with the most. Personally, I'll stick to my habits.... Better safe than sorry.

kittygrrl 08-22-2016 08:47 PM

ummm these are all fascinating...but way too gross for me to think about..one of the things I absolutely hate to touch is any kind of ground meat...it just reminds me of hibee jibee things..i just can't:twitch:
