I have a new dip/dressing. I had a few tablespoons of basil pesto left in a jar and added it to a pint of TJs organic nonfat yogurt. It was really good. I made more. I've been eating much better now. Lots of salad and veggies with this on it. Homemade pesto would probably better healthier, less fat, but this is easy, I would end up not making it and eating something not good for me. I used this with some avocado as a sandwich filling with leftover salad too.

I spent some time with a coworker last night, talking about our health and TDP site and food in general. She's got a low thyroid and takes meds for it, but she has such a difficult time getting healthier that's she's been very frustrated. I think our talk helped to renew her determination to eat better for herself and I credit this site and you all in here who've also done the same for me. Sure, I have less than stellar days, but it's my overall progress that counts and I always draw inspiration from you and this thread, so thank you all. :)

I'm so glad we're all here for each other. :) I hope that you're having luck keepin your sugar under control *wink wink* As for me....Monday is my official weigh day....last week I only lost 0.2 lbs. Anywho, I weighed yesterday b/c I knew today was Valentines and that my sweetie and I would have chinese or thai or something outrageous and I didn't want one meal of cheating to make me feel like I screwed the whole week up :) This way I have an entire week to make up for today's cheating. LOL SOOOOOOO Duh duh duhhhhhhh *key drumroll* GUESS WHO IS FINALLY IN THE 360's???????? 368.8 That's 23.2 lbs down in 5.5 weeks!!!!!!!!! WHOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I honestly didn't think I could ever stick with something good for me this long. I have learned to pick myself back up after a fall down and to allow myself to cheat now and again. I love all of you so much. Seriously. |

The weekend did not go well for me in terms of my eating.
The demon demanded carbs... crunchy, salty carbs. Hence, the half-eaten bag of chips I tossed in the trash this morning. Coming on the tail end of Mexican Thursday night, some queso/pretzel bread thing Friday night, the "Gadzooks" ice cream that Jess left in the freezer... well, I feel like ass this morning. Today will be a better day :) On the bright side of things, Jess took me shopping over the weekend... I am down ANOTHER clothes size. I have to readjust my thinking to my new size - I am so accustomed to walking to the rack and grabbing - heaven forbid I try it on. I had to exchange several things yesterday for a smaller size. Yay! I also have on a belt today - as an accessory rather than a necessity. I can't tell you how long its been since I was ok with a belt. It feels pretty good :) |
Hey all..
I have a question for anyone who is a member of the Biggest Loser Club (the online group): are all the meal options omnivore or are there other options? |

When you first set up your acct it asks you what your preferences are. I clicked low sodium, no fish...since I hate seafood. They had a vegetarian thing you could select as one of your options. Hope this helps :) |
Hey all.. a couple of questions (I ask here since I may not make it tomorrow night):
First: for those that live in apartments, how do you deal with doing exercises while being respectful of neighbours below? I've been doing my workouts but am conscious of neighbours below and not wanting them to listen to me tromp about. Second: I was at a blog recently and the author was photographing what they ate as a method of tracking stuff but also to be visually aware of what is eaten in the day. They would then post it to see what people thought of the meals. I was curious what others thought of this (I'm contemplating either doing a thread or blog entries on this) |

I can see where it might be helpful, but also very, very vulnerable to do this blog photo thing in being that wide open to criticism. The apt/exercise issue - When I lived in apts, I either used a gym or the exercise room in the complex. |

I think for all of us there are things we are willing to make public and things we are not. For myself, it was a very important and hard decision to make this whole thing so public. I wanted accountability and criticism and help. I find all of these things. However, I do also find that I am receiving quite negative reactions as well. I think that if you are going to do something so managed as a daily blog about what you have eaten including pictures of it, you should be prepared for AWESOME support. However, you must also be prepared, as christie stated, for negative criticism. It is sad that our world is this way. The fact is, however, that it is this way. I will support you 100% in whatever endeavor you undertake, my dear :) -Candace P.S.- I realized after my second Jillian Michaels workout that the neighbors downstairs might not appreciate the "pounding." I have decided to move my workouts to the gym at my apt. At 12midnight no one is there and I can pull up Jillian on demand on the TV's in there and work it out *wink* Quote:
So, this week has been horrible for me. I have found myself in the deepest homesick depression. I have cried every day and even had a few anxiety attacks. I worked way too much and slep way too little. All in all, life happened and I let my food addiction take over again. I ate out (thai food, fried food, desserts) way too often and felt terrible and guilty which only has depressed me more. I know that slip ups happen, and I can't be too hard on myself. But, I feel like if I am having this much of a hard time only 6 weeks into this change, how can I possibly expect to keep it up consistently enough to lose the 170+ lbs I need to lose and then maintain? *sigh* Then I have defaulted to the old tricks "well, I have already sabotaged today, might as well keep eating whatever I want and start again tomorrow." Which is silly b/c I know I can "start" whenever I want. Pfftt. |
Herro all....
Hope all is well with everyone this week :) I have been having a rough week stayin on top of things. :overreaction::overreaction: -Candace |
Still working to get back on track this week.
I finally got my refills of my medicine. So, my thyroid meds help manage my hunger and my weight loss. :) I can't wait to get a :schnauzer: or a :junesmiley: because THEN i'll have to take it for walks.....and exercise is JUST what I need*smiles* Smooches everyone :penguin: Candace |

YAY for getting a puppy, too... that sounds awesome! What better way to get out there and start walking then with a furry companion. Hopefully the weather will start warming up soon, so we can ALL get out there and get some fresh air in our lungs! Nothing like a little sunshine to improve our spirits & put the spring back in our steps! Well, last week I bit the bullet and joined a gym. We've got a local gym here that has been in business forever it seems. There are a lot of newer, fancier gyms opening up, so to stay in competiton they lowered their prices. We lucked out because they even had a couple's discount! Even better, they have a women's only section... and 99% of the women working out there are NOT "Barbie" and look just like me. So, the intimidation factor got thrown out the window! WOOHOO that makes me hella happy to know that I'm not the only big girl working it out! I hope that everyone is doing well, and keeping up the great work to become healthy! Have a fabulous day y'all! |
I threw the ole diet out the window this weekend and I still haven't completely found it yet. I'm slowly getting back into the groove of it, though, and have been making better decisions the past couple of days. I realized that I can't eat a lot of fried foods any more. I :fart: something awful! So, I guess that's one way to help me eat better. :penguin:

Last weekend was my birthday celebration.....I ate everything I COULD that was bad for me...lol
Burgers....bread.....CAKE....cheese....Mexican food....I was afraid to get on the scale....until today....I got back on my routine on Wednesday, with the exception of yesterday and today ~ I've had NO appetite whatsoever (Don't know what THAT'S about!). So. Expecting to see a major setback, I did not. I have lost ~ all total ~ 27 lbs! HOW, I do not know! But I'll take it! :D |
Quote:
You forgot to say CUPCAKES!!! OhmygoshtheywereSOdamngood! Key lime cupcakes are my favorite now. I shall request them for MY birthday, I think. I also have let it go since your birthday weekend. I was expecting, and saw, a 5 pound difference when I got home. The good news? I think some of it was water weight, because I could NOT have dropped 2-3 pounds in a couple of days eating junk food (which was what I did between weighings). Eh, the body needs a break once in a while and I'm sure there's no permanent damage done. I do, however, need to figure out HOW I'm going to eat when I get back in the South. I'd managed to go MONTHS without one single fried thing and then managed to have something fried every single day I was down there. It was mondo good though. |
Ugh...
Sounds like we have all fallen short on our willpower this last week. Battling pneumonia, some very difficult situations with work and the impending doom of the big bday next week, well, I have had a carb fest. That damned Paula Deen and her sweet tea brined buttermilk battered fried chicken. (It was tasty delish, tho) Worst thing is I physically feel like ass. I'll get up tomorrow and look for my willpower. It must be in my suitcase... briefcase... knitting bag... :missing: |

Looking for low carb red velvet cake for a girls birthday. Is there such a thing?.. Does it count if we eat only salad all week? I love you with all my heart and have no doubt you will be back on track soon. You got thrown a couple punches this week, love. Let it go and get back to that fierce ass woman! I got your back doll! Ever yours. |

I'm still shaking my head, asking myself, 'How did THAT happen???' It's probably water weight.... Ah yes.....those [damn] cupcakes!! YUMM~O!!! |

How come I don't have muscles from THAT? Huh?) |

I don't know if anyone has already posted anything about this, but I heard a blurb on the news about it and thought " Finally! Proof of why some diets fail"
I hear way too often folks trying all sorts of different techniques and feel like they have failed, when we now have proof that genetically, some diets are never going to work for every individual. This study showed clearly that for some women low fat diets worked whereas for others low carb diets were the right route. Just thought it good reading and an "aha!" for some folks who have been failed by the wrong nutritional route. |
Hi all. Another 'chubbette' here. I have struggled with weight all my life.
Candace, when I was your age I wore a size 9, and remained at that size 'til my late 30's. I have since then gradually and steadily put on the pounds. I am now 67 years old, and 70 lbs overweight. I certainly don't have the skin elasticity you do, but I believe if I lose the weight gradually/slowly, and go on an exercise program that's suited to my physical capabilities, I can achieve results I can be happy with. My closet has enough sizes to open up a clothes store! They range from size medium to X1. Currently my slacks size is 18, but I have lost a pound or two within the last few months. I am retired, and don't have any sort of social or active life, so that has got to change as well. I'm hoping that with the good weather that's approaching, I will get out more and start walking. My best wishes to all of you who are struggling with your weight. Remember, it's not just about 'looking good', it's about your health, and avoiding the pitfalls of excess weight. Good luck, and thank you for starting this thread. I will be a frequent visitor. p.s. The South Beach Diet is an excellent way to jump start your weight loss program. I went on it several years ago, and lost 30 lbs in 3 months time. Sadly I've gained it all back and then some. The mindset must be: this is not a temporary change of diet - it's a lifetime committment. |
Just checking in and updating...
The big 4-0 came and went on Saturday and my "goal" when I started my life change back in August was to be the same size I was when I was 17... I am ONE clothes size away... When I started I was 5 away. Lost almost 80lbs now. I feel better and am starting to incorporate exercise into my life. Its been a rough go the past couple of weeks with physical illness, but I am back on track and focused. Hope everyone is doing well, and if not, brush yourself off and remember that you can start again tomorrow. Best, Christie |
Good job, Christie!! Good luck, and keep it up - only one dress size to go? Wow, how lucky you are!!! Stick to it, you'll be there in no time!! However, you do know that losing the weight is the 'easy' (?) part - keeping it off, well, that's a whole 'nother challenge!

Congratulations Christie, I love to hear about folks reaching their goals, and it sounds as if you will successfully reach yours in less than 12 months.
I picked up Prevention's Flat Belly Diet at the library, yesterday. I don't know if I will do the actual plan, but it was very interesting to read about what causes us to lose that flat belly. Stress is the biggest factor...something to think about! Quote:

Did anyone see TBL last night? My cable and internet were down during the show, so the DVR didn't record.
