yesterday did the zombie run 5k
|
Today I started my 30 Day Challenge of A Mile A Day. I got to 1.83 miles before I gave in. My goal is to drop weight to control my PCOS. My endurance is pretty good, but my motivation goes up and down. I'm going to make it to 30 days, I am set on it.
|
Tuesday I had a work over of shots on the left side of my back, its been about
12 hours since I had he work done ( late in the afternoon) and I'm still feeling all the shots I had. I feel like a pin cushion at the moment but am glad I got it done finally but wish it had happened sooner cause it took out the whole left leg from my lower back to my feet and had me on a cane or crutches, my office chair has wheels so you can bet I made good use of it. I do feel better but it will be a few days then I hope I can start back to working out again after not being able to do anything without pain. I was worried my diabetic numbers would get bad but I really watched my calories and carbs, I an glad I kept all my Dr. Adkins low to O carb cook books that helped me with it all...I mean food should taste good even if it needs to be very lo in carbs. |
I'm a bad, bad girl.
 I haven't made it to the gym since my consultation workout. In my defense, I DID clean house and move boxes and plastic bins around for 4 hours today so I did get some movement with intent. I even wore my workout gear to do it since I knew I'd get sweaty. I do need to get there tomorrow though. |
Saw my doctor today for my first post-op follow up. I am making good recovery and can start PT and general range of motion exercises. Still no weight bearing, above a shampoo bottle. I can also come off the pain meds but should remain on the muscle relaxers while I'm still experiencing spasms.
|
Today I did a 2 hour walk in Riverside Park. It was actually from 12:15 to 4 but as usual I did a LOT of photo taking and meandering, even a little laying in the leaves :)
|
I've still been at it a good hour+ per day on the recumbent level 8-9 So... I decided to graduate to the elliptical. I really needed to get upright and start doing some load bearing stuff now that my wind is back.
Sadly, it seems an 8 on the bike is a 3 on the elliptical. Oh well, I'll just start working my way up to an 8 on this. :weightlifter: Stubborn like that. |
That's the way to do it, Kelt!
I, sadly, have not officially worked out in a while although I've done plenty of manual labor and movement with intent. These 12 hour days are getting to me and it doesn't help when Oliver decides I've had enough sleep and it's time to get up. He's 8! He and I are both middle aged. It's all those afternoon naps he gets. Jerk. |
Quote:
It's just a seasonally adjusted workout. It's Oliver's job to be nocturnal. The sooner you recognize the new hierarchy in your home the sooner you'll be able to adapt to his schedule. It's the rulez. :cat: |
He is the weirdest cat.
This is totally off topic, but maybe I can relate it somehow. He doesn't like the cheapy pressies....plastic bags, tp rolls, aluminum foil and paper balls.....or the store bought stuff....toys, wands, scratching posts and a giant perch lookout that's almost as tall as me. That's my connection....I put that sucker together after lugging the box around a while, trying to decide if I wanted to keep it, and it took me a bit to get it all up. He hasn't even played with the dangling pom pom. Not ONCE. He sits in front of the front door and huffs the breeze coming through the crack at the bottom. Sometimes he lays on the back of the couch and looks out the back window but the ONLY toy he will play with is a blue stuffed boomerang. I call it his blue banana because he holds it like someone might hold a banana. He's VERY talkative when he wants attention. And when he poops. He likes to announce that and boy, howdy...it will burn the hair off inside your nose. He's almost sleeping through the night, so that's a good thing, and he's totally chill outside of his attention starved moments. He doesn't scratch much and isn't destructive and doesn't jump all over everything. Oliver's such a good :cat:. Weird but good. For the record, I spent two hours lifting doors, caulking holes at ground level and picking up nails and screws from the project going on at work. <--thread compliant after all! |
I gave two fur kids a bath, that has to count for something.
|
It's been nearly a month since I actually worked out at the gym but I dragged myself there this morning and had a light workout. I hopped on the treadmill and set the weight loss program since I knew it wouldn't get too fast. Can't keep the heart rate in the fat burning zone if you're gasping for breath.
 I did half an hour plus cool down on the treadmill (158.6 cal, 1.07 mi) and then I hopped on their scale that measures hydration, body mass, muscle mass, et cetera. I also hopped on their regular floor scale and there's a discrepancy of almost 2 lbs so do with that what you will. I later found out it should be done before the workout but I digress.....the workout was low key enough that I doubt it skewed things too badly. I did ask one of the owners of the gym how to interpret a couple of the icons and he got it wrong too...lol...so I got one of the sheets to keep track of this and I'll have an accurate read in the next few days. Here is what I came up with (which could be wrong and affected by the previous workout): 179 lbs 44% hydration, which is close. I should be in the 45-60% range. Physique type 9-this is actually not bad given how they calculate the chart, but 5 or 6 would be better 5.2 lbs for my bone mass range, which needs to be around 6.5 lbs 40.8% bad stuff, which makes me obese...I need to be in the 30% range I'm in the healthy range for visceral fat. There are only 2 ranges, good and bad, so I'm okay. 100.4 lbs of good stuff That leaves 78.6 lbs of stuff that can be improved upon. I'm going to compare my next reading, before my workout and with a little more experience with the contraption, and see how it differs. I'm going to try yoga on Thursday and my trainer offered me another free half hour session, so that makes me happy. He even promised to tone it down a bit so I'm only sore for one day, not two. He's a good kid. I'm glad I wound up at this gym, even if I have to drive just a smidge more to get to it. |
I started my day out with yoga and I will clean for a total of 5 hours today...
I want to start getting a workout in at night...my ankle is feeling better...I think its about time... |
Guys, I'm up to 2.75 lb weights! And for certain movements it feels like they are 275 lbs. Lol.
Rehab still 2 or 3 times a week. Almost complete range of motion. I even was able to throw some tennis balls for Ernie while we were at the bark park. |
My new gym has a new contraption that is a cross between the old ski machine and an elliptical. I hopped on that and set the timer for half an hour but realized my mistake fairly quickly and halved that time.
82 cal, 15:00 min I moved to the rowing machine and realized that they set one up for big feet and one up for small feet, so I had to move since I apparently prefer the big footed machine's location best. 137 cal, 15:05 min I finished up on the treadmill, using a variety program. 93.2 cal, .70 mi, 20:00 min Good workout! |

It's literally like the old ski machines that go out at an angle to the side but it also goes forward and back, like the elliptical does. It works the thighs more all over, sides and front. It took me a minute, but I found it. I was a bit misleading earlier. It's designed less with a ski influence and more with a speed skating influence. Here If you scroll a little past the image that comes up, there are a group using these machines in a semi-circle so you can see different views. The ones the gym has have two sets of handles. One is small and stationary and the other, larger handles move forward and back, very much like an elliptical. With each step, the peddles goes out and forward and back and out and forward and back....I won't be able to do this often unless I get shoes designed to withstand constant pushing and pulling from the sides. I don't think my cross trainers will cut it long term. |

So there's a fresh new hell I never met before! Looks like an ankle breaker if I ever saw one, higher topped shoes for sure. Something I've always wanted to try (really old school) and may actually have the room for in the not too distant future is a 'slide/glide board' for mimicking hockey/speed skating. A less locked foot position, I think it looks fun. (and could possibly kill me as well) :cheesy: |

Good morning, exercisers!
Fresh from my workout adventures, I am here. And eating. Don't mind me if I type with my mouth open; I grew up in a barn. Sort of. I tried another new to me piece of equipment and it's pretty cool. It's an elliptical not really 'hybrid' per se but it does work a little differently than most ellipticals do. It works the backside....the hammies, the glutes, the calves...the whole backside of your lower body from the feet up to the tush. I didn't feel anything in my thighs on the front. It's also tricky as Hell to get on if you don't grab the smaller, less mobile hand rails. See here. The pedals are more 'squishy' than a typical elliptical in that they have more give in the motion but it really keeps your legs going in an up and forward motion. Even though the smaller handle bars are more stable, they still 'pulse' with the movement of the pedals so they aren't locked into place. The big handles will throw you off if you catch them wrong while mounting the machine. Luckily, I have cat-like reflexes. :cat: I did half an hour on this machine and got a good workout in. 241 cal, 1.03 mi, 30:00 min One thing about this is, it will say 'cool down' but it won't log any further factors (distance, calories, time, etc). You have to do your own cool down aside from the programs. My hammies and calves felt a smidge tight so I hopped onto one of the 3 types of treadmills they have and used it as a cool down. It's a Precor 954i. 77.1 cal, .66 mi, 20:00 min All in all, a good day except for the locker situation but that's a story for another day. |
I got to the gym around 7:30 this morning and got in a good workout for Turkey Day.
Technogym Excite elliptical 263 cal, 1.18 mi, 31:00 min Rower 91 cal, unknown distance because I am suffering from fat finger syndrome today, 10:00 min Precor 954i treadmill 75.7 cal, .78 mi, 18:00 min I stretched and was out of there. |
I am practicing (and have for a couple of days) exercising my right arm to mouth workout. You know, asymmetric upper body drills... (um, yeah)
Hey! It gives me a reason to "renew" my efforts next week! That's gonna suck, but today is fun. :cheesy: |
Today I walked around downtown for about 2.5 hours. My pedometer said 6700 steps...
Then I took the dogs on a challenging hike. All uphill... the views made it worth it. Downhill is always harder for me. I was just SO happy that my ankle is finally feeling good enough for hiking. :) When I was coming down, I ran into a nice couple. They told me of another spot nearby. I'm going to try it Saturday if weather and Ankle hold up well :) |
Not today but yesterday
I started with a Precor EFX machine that kicked my butt. That's what I get for choosing the total body program. At least I had the sense to get off before something fell off.
 162.7 cal, 1.38 mi, 20:00 min Machine 2 = Precor 954i treadmill 184.4 cal, 1.75 mi, 35:00 min There were 3 broken treadmills in a line of 5. No lights, no beeping; no one was home. A few minutes of stretching and I was off for the day. |
It didn't happen. Hasn't been happening because of how busy I've been. I feel so much better physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, when I exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. ...now the only trick is trying to convince myself that I'm worthy of spending time away from studying.
|
It was my version of a quickie today.
I did the Precor EFX 576i machine on the today body program for half an hour. 286.0 cal, 2.43 mi, 35:00 min and 3810 strides total I followed that up with about 8-10 minutes of stretching. |
It's been 10 days since my last official gym workout. In between that time, I got lazy, I sprained/broke/not sure/it doesn't matter/it just hurts a toe, I'm hemorrhaging (as usual) and I just don't plain feel up to snuff lately. There's a lot of emotional stuff and loss going on right now, so that's affecting me as well, but I did drag myself there this morning and I didn't die or suffer greatly for it. It may have even been a little helpful.
I hopped onto a Matrix recumbent bike first. Level 3 with the rolling hills program. 143 cal, 6.6 mi, 32:00 min Concept 3 rower next. Level 1. 108 cal, 2068 meters, 11:00 min Precor 954i treadmill last. Performance program, level 1. 49.0 cal, .44 mi, 15:00 min I followed that up with some stretching in the dark dance class room. It was relaxing and no one could see me in my weird contortions, so that relaxed me further. Good times. |
Yes I'm posting here. Those of you that know me know I'm NOT an excerise person. So hold your seats I joined a gym. Been there every day. Walking on the treadmill 30 minutes at the time.
Yesterday I meet with a trainer who I swear tried to kill me. I can't move today. Took me 5 minutes longer to do my morning walk but I got it done. I started a plant based diet today. Not sure I'm going to b able to do the smoothie thing but I'm going to try. I'm determined to get in shape but I know its a long road. I am watching my progress daily. It is happening or was before the trainer. The first time on the treadmill I was lucky to do 2.5 laps within 4 days I'm up to almost 5 laps in 30 minutes. I'm increasing the amount of time I walk Cody every day. Right now its once around my apartment complex starting tomorrow it will be 2 rounds. Thank you for listening I will update more later. |
Note to Gemme:
Every trainer I've ever had has said that the rowing machine is the most over looked piece of machinery and yet its one of the very best bang for your buck. I know my tummy even felt it when I used to use the rower at the gym... I'd totally like to get a decent home version....if anyone sees or hears of anything please let me know! |
I have missed every workout this week AND I have eaten more than usual.... Back to the workout tomorrow AM.
|
One walk down. Wasn't able to do 2 rounds was barely able to get out of bed.
So week 1 in the books. This is what I have found out. I'm slow BUT steady. Doubled my lap count on the treadmill. I know eating heavy is going to kill me won't do it again. Goals for this week. 1. Add the extra round to my morning and evening walks. 2. Try by Friday to have added 15 minutes to my treadmill walk. 3. Stick to this new diet. Not that easy folks I will update later, not for y'all but to keep me accountable. Have a great day |
This morning, I got a good but short workout in and followed it with a decent stretch.
I hopped onto the Precor EFX576i elliptical and off I went! 291.2 cal, 2.45 mi, 35:00 min For something different: 3910 strides taken. I earned that sh*t today. |
I tried something new today, exercisers.
I started on the Technogym elliptical to warm up. 95 cal, .40 mi, 13:00 min Then I went through a whole section of weighted machines and tried each one, with varying levels of success. Some of them are stupid. That's all I have to say about that. I did 12 reps on each machine. Just enough to figure out if I like it and to remind my body what it's supposed to do on the machines. While there were the usual machines, there were some different ones too. Their ab crunch machine has straps like you are being buckled into a race car and you use the ends of the straps to hold on to. It's okay, though. I liked it. They have both Technogym and Trotter machines in the area I was working in. The Trotter machines are ancient and confusing. The leg curl had two pads and I couldn't figure out where I should put my legs because it restricted my movements too much no matter what I did. Also, the ab/adductor machine is on meth. Or something. It's ridiculous and probably as old as I am. Luckily, the Technogym machines were far more easy to use. Once I finished my rounds there, I hopped onto the Technogym treadmill and walked to cool down and relax. 44 cal, .43 mi, 11:00 min I finished up with some stretching. Had to do the stretches out in the middle of the main room as the room off to the side had a class going on. All in all, it wasn't a bad workout. |
Here's an update.
Had to take 2 days off because of the pain. Back in the gym today. Been a week so I weighted in. Down 5 lbs. I know its not much however I prefer it slowly coming off so it will stay off. My heart rate today didn't get above 115 compared to being lucky to keep it at 126 last week. The diet is coming along. I have to confess I have cheated with 3 meals but I'm determined to quit giving in. Oh 1 more thing. When I started I was barely able to keep up with 1.0 as the speed on the treadmill up to 2.4. I hope to increase it every cpl of days. Have a great day. |
I did a short but intense workout this morning.
Precor EFX 576i elliptical. 312.0 cal, 2.52 mi, 4220 strides, 35:00 min |
I've been slacking lately. A lot. Since rehabbing for my shoulder, I managed to sprain my MCL. So my shoulder isn't quite 100% and my knee is limiting me further.
I have started wearing my Fitbit again though. My new job has me walking a lot more than in the past, which is helpful. After the New Year, when (hopefully) I am healthy again, and I can finally stabilize my routine a little bit, I really want to get into a good habit of making it to the gym regularly. Plus crossfit is really bit up here. And my sister does it a few times a week with a group of people, who have invited me to join. I think I will start doing that as well. |
Good workout this morning, exercisers!
It was Team Precor all the way today. I started on the elliptical and moved to the treadmill before stretching on the mat. 285.8 cal, 2.41 mi, 3746 strides, 35:00 min I worked hard and didn't slack at all but didn't push myself as hard as I did Thursday either. I did two short running intervals and walked comfortably the rest of the time. 92.4 cal, .79 mi, 20:00 min |
I won't work out tomorrow so I wanted this one to be a good one. I think I should have changed it a bit or waited a bit longer before jumping on the rower though. The motion squished my tummy and that didn't feel good.
Trio workout Concept 2 rower: 103 cal, 1946 meters, 10:00 min Precor 846i recumbent bike: 103 cal, 3.70 mi, 22:00 min Precor 954i treadmill: 106.0 cal, .97 mi, 20:00 min I did a short jog/run 4.0-5.0 mph halfway through. I'm starting to have a bit more trouble with my deviated septum too. It's starting to get harder for me to catch my breath after I exert myself. I didn't think it was bad enough to consider surgery but maybe I will check into it. Hey, if you ever wonder if you are getting older, stick your hands under one of those high power air hand dryers. Like ripples in a pond.... |
My sister dragged me out to do a Pure Barre workout yesterday. Holy shit! For being a strictly body weight workout, it was super tough. And I sweating by the gallon. I think me and the couple of guys in the class suffered more than the women that took us there.
|
I had a decent workout this morning.
Precor EFX 546i elliptical (this one doesn't have mobile handles and some different program options) 270.6 cal, 2.33 mi, 4121 strides, 35:00 min circuit training program stretch to finish |
