I took the dogs for a nice 3 or 4 mile walk...cleaned around the house and did an hour of yoga...
It was Bob Harpers yoga and he kicks my butt. Good news is, after a week of doing it, I can do a real pushup...and my chataranga is better than it was too...my balance really sucks...and I can not do the half moon pose...maybe someday |
A couple of weeks ago I saw another knee specialist ,the first thing he ask was why I wasn't in therapy for my knee? well I told him that none of the other knee doctors sent me to one nither did pain management, so the new guy has me going three days a week plus filling in the gaps at home being I have all this equipment to use. My knee is now sore but not in pain and there is a area of soreness half way up my outer thigh down past my knee to the top of my calf muscle and the back of my knee is a bit sore. I have no idea how long this will go on but it's an up grade in my care.

I wasn't feeling my oats this morning so I kept it low key.
Precor 954i treadmill 165.9 cal, 1.57 mi, 35:00 min I did run for a short 2 minute sprint @ 5.0 mph but walked the rest of the time. I played with the incline too and kept shifting between 0-2.5. I ended with a nice stretch. |
Wow, I am finally caught up on this thread because I do that when I've finallllllyyyyy exercised and am ready to post. I am on winter break week right now, so I am hoping to get back in the exercise groove.
Today I could not even find my gym card (still haven't). At least I remembered my locker combination. My gym was bought by new owners so when I went in, it was as if I'd been asleep for 100 years (I have), and it looks totally different. I did the StairMaster for 30 minutes, 82 floors, 250 cal., 2.7 floors per minute. Then I cooled down by doing 30 minutes of floor stuff: stretching, weight lifting, and ab-leg-and-back exercises. I don't listen to music during those last 30 minutes so it's time to think. It felt interesting to go back to thinking. Some things circulate through my head that I'd rather be done with. They must have gotten backed up in my head while I was not exercising. In any case... I"M BACK! |
I have another appointment tomorrow with chipper B, the trainer. We're starting at the beginning since I've fallen off the wagon, rolled down the hill and washed away in the floods of life. I mentioned that to him. We'll see if he takes that to heart. If he goes all super trainer on me again, I might have to use my adult voice on him.
|
I didn't exercise today but did get active by sweeping then cleaning a large part of the hose. I striped my bed then turned to mattress, washed the bed covers then replaces them. Washed all the dog laundry then put it all back together again, and while the laundry was washing I slowly cleaned off the patio of the dirt and leaves that have blown every where. A lot of the time my back tied up on me and my knee griped at me so I did take breaks to deal with it. All that had to count for something.
|
I have learned that I should trust less and value myself more. I should be less available to others and more available to myself, always make time for me... Not put a world of weight on ppls words... Not ever let anyone's words hurt me... Not ever let me hurt myself in a way my naive, childish, silly heart likes to betray me by stabbing itself in the back every time.
I have learned that walls are built with purpose. Never ever ever let your guard down again. Those who deserve you will take their time to learn, understand and care enough to break throgh those walls without breaking you. |
Well, I survived. If that is taking it easy on me, I'm going to look like Ahhhnauld before too long.
 :weightlifter: This session was free because he's a sweetie pie. Wednesday's will not be. Not sure how much I burned or what good I did, but I sweated and grunted and felt the burn for half an hour with B. Before that, I warmed up on the treadmill walking .35 miles and burning about 35 calories for about 10 minutes. I found a new machine to stretch on. It could prove to be helpful. Tomorrow, there's a yoga class. I might go. It would be my first. I've had a yoga video for about a year now and still haven't cracked the packaging on it. Doh! |
Okay...officially I don't start my new exercise regime until the 1st but you all have inspired me to start early! :) I've been out of action for two months after blowing out my knee, so I'm getting on my bike for a gentle but long cycle ride tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I did my therapy today and it went pretty well, as soon as they get the pool fixed I will be swimming a couple of times a week, laws little do they know if I get in the pool I may never get out.. I love the water.
Not sure if this can be called therapy but I got a wild hair to bake so I have been elbow deep in bread dough, I call it brain therapy, works too. |
After my workout on Sunday that night my back hurt and I had a bad headache. Luckily it did not last beyond the night. Whew! Clearly I worked out too hard after not working out for so long. So today I dialed it down and was very attentive to what I was doing. I think I nailed it- meaning I don't think I'll be in pain tonight. I did 2.3 floors per minute on the StairMaster in stead of 2.7 and controlled the speed manually between levels 2-4. End result: 40 minutes, 275 cal., 87 floors. Then I did 20 minutes of floor exercises: stretching and leg and ab exercises. It is so nice to have this week off work. I have been able to sleep in which gives my body such a nice chance to recover.

Shoveled ice and snow from our first fall of 2015 and helped my daughter paint her room :)

Today was a pretty good day. I told my trainer that I hated him once...no twice....:)
I did a quick warm up on one of the Technogym ellipticals first. 32 cal, .16 mi, 7:00 min That was followed by a half hour training session and I still felt okay enough to do a little more so I did the following on a Precor EFX 576i elliptical: 114.7 cal, .99 mi, 1755 strides, 15:00 min This was followed by some stretching on the giant pad in the middle of the gym that now has 'NO SHOES' written all over it, all the way around. |
Today I've realized that - Everyone is someone's nothing!
|
It poured down rain all day today ... I don't use umbrellas. I only get to use it once, then I forget and leave it out and about wherever. Anyway, I was about seven minutes late to work this morning. All the parking spaces close to the building were taken ... had to run fast to go inside because of the rain. Then I left about 9:30 for Subway - ran again in and out. At lunch, went home to let Jennifer and Kevie go out and potty ... more running in and out. Same deal when I left at 5:30.
All that running counts, right? *grin* |

lol Maybe. My back and shoulders are a bit sore from yesterday's workout with the trainer. Nothing intolerable though. I think we've worked out exactly how hard he should push me, et cetera. I did move a bunch of stuff around in my sh*t room. You know the room; the one that gets things thrown in there when you don't have another place for the item but you can't/won't get rid of it and where you put new (to you) stuff that people give you because you don't want to seem like a jerk. I should have been purging this room when I was taking my vacation days but I got very lazy and filled my days with an NCIS marathon, going out to the movies, taking the :cat: to the vet multiple times, shopping and general do nothing-ing. It's my goal to start painting that room; finally. It's only been a little over 2 years since I moved in. |
Hello my fellow exercisers! Happy New Years Eve!
So i was looking back at 2015, and I realized I ended right where I started. Same weight, same intentions to exercise more in the New Year. The last few days I've been focusing on walking. Trying to get my 10,000 steps a day. Not always succeeding. Be safe and have fun tonight! |
I really got a surprise this morning, I was looking for one of my fur kids toys she had hid in the closet then couldn't find, when I saw the scale I put in there a while ago. So I got it out then weighed my self, was I glad I did cause I said 254 lbs. some how I have lost ten pounds. This was after I ate breakfast, had two cups of coffee along with eating an orange. I don't know where it went but I don't want to find it, a nice way to end 2015. Happy new years everyone.
|
My exercise stats for 2015 are under 30 minutes per day, waaaayyyy down from the previous years.
Sooo... back pain from gym again today. Thus I took a leisurely walk in the park (1 hour) which felt good. |
I was finally able to burn some decent calories today after eating winter junk food during the week. I went on a long walk in the woods with my fiancee and her family which involved climbing scary high rocks.
|
I have been riding my recumbent bike nice easy going to loosen up my knee joint then walking up the block as far as I am comfy with, but for what ever reason I am sore in my knee today have some swelling that feels like fluid that goes away after a heat treatment. Tuesday I went to my chiro for a work over he said my back is really tight and stiff even though I am doing some stretching maybe I need to do more plus I am doing exercises for my sciatica.
I know I am long overdue for a round of back injections but couldn't get an appointment till after the first of the year...hurry up will ya. |
I'm too lazy to look for last year's stats but I think this year was less than last.
28,565 calories burned 243.54 miles walked, ran, biked and shuffled |
today it was cold, the kind that charges at the bones and gives your teeth a solid rattle. Its the kind of day that would have had me almost incapacitated at one point in my not so far off history. But not today. I took extra flights of stairs, and I ran with the dog. I did this remembering all the days that it wasnt an option in this body, and for my childhood friend who is being robbed of her mobility by ALS. So just for today my activity felt like a fight instead of just going through the motions.
|
Nothing today as it's going to be a long day here. The toilet got scrubbed this morning. That's something.
Yesterday I painted off and on for half of the day, so there's about 3 hours or so of active painting and about another hour and change prepping and resituating things and washing the instruments plus another hour of hopping in the car and going to the store to get better instruments. Ever noticed that people drive their shopping carts like they do their cars? Oh and I almost got backed into while on foot by a giant SUV. That got the heart rate up a bit. |
Yesterday and today I did pretty much the same routine: manual stair master for 30 minutes, levels 2-4, 2.5 floors per minute, 230 cal., 75 floors. And no back pain, what a relief! I have one more day of vacation before I go back to work on Monday.
I'm watching Making a Murderer on Netflix. So good! |
The back is feeling pretty good, ever since I decided to push through the pain and starting working out on the eliptical starting last week. My chiro told me it made sense that this was helpful. I wish he had told me this before (last I heard from him if I was in pain, I was supposed to just do stretches....'course last time we discussed it was 9 months ago when I was in wicked bad pain). :|
Needless to say, that (and the chiro), along with the stretches in the morning, have made a difference. Sucks that my 6 month old mattress jacks up my back, but hey!, I only buy a mattress once every 15 years, so that is how it goes.... My :dog: and I had a great day hiking the local trails and he is still Mr. Energy even though he is 10.5 years old. Gotta love a Russell Terrier! |
I worked 11 hours and was busy the whole day. Any benefit was washed away when I gobbled up some bits and pieces of stuff at 9pm. Not my best effort tonight. Luckily, tomorrow's another day.
|
Update so we are almost a month in andnim down 11 lbs. Still a lot to go. Baby steps is what that special person tells me. At the end of January I'm hoping my endurance is up so I can start some strenght training.
|
It's tomorrow and the sun came up.
Precor EFX 546i elliptical 306.3 cal, 2.49 mi, 35:00 min I stretched and that was it. All in all, it was good. I definitely earned every sweat droplet and calorie burned. I went later than I normally do and there were more people there. It was the first time the gym actually smelled like a gym. I do not like the smell of sweat. Trainer appointment tomorrow morning and more painting tonight. There's no rest for the wicked. :eyebrow: |
3.5 miles on rowing machine. Might have a bike ride later on...
|
Currently I'm stuck in the car. But I have plans to play a little pond hockey with friends tonight.
|
Ok I have a question for all of you who have been excerising on a regular basis. I have NO idea where to start on the strength training. How many reps I should do and how often should I increase the reps?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all the support I have gotten for y'all already. |

That being said, in my experience, a good place to start is 2 sets, 8-12 reps per set. I typically will increase the amount of weight I'm doing when I can easily, without straining, complete my reps. I do not generally increase the amount of sets or reps. |

I am assuming here that you are talking about free weights. If your not then please explain to me which machine. The gym I belong to has so many machines I have NO clue where to start or how to even use them. I keep reading where some are talking about a circuit. Is there a certain circuit to follow? If so what is it? Do you have to do everything on the circuit everytime? I have so many questions and don't want to hurt myself or break a machine. I promise to try and not overwhelm y'all with questions. Thank you for your patience |

Dapper is right. It is a good idea to talk to the gym staff about how each machine is used so that you use it properly. They may also be able to give advice as to where to start.
Personally, I usually lift, when healthy, 2-3 times a week. And I tend to focus on muscle groups. Upper body (chest, arms, shoulders, and back) and lower body (legs & abs). I use a combination of free weights and machines. Occasionally I'll throw in a circuit for variety. I go to Planet Fitness and they have a 30 minute express circuit that makes it easy. |

Work break for me around 2pm and will be using the rowing machine. Then back to work until late tonight so that will be it for me- but that's okay. |
