When my domestic partnership broke up, the song I most listened to was "What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flatts. Listening to songs like that is my version of a controlled burn....find the most depressing, mopey, "I've broken up and my life is over" song I can find, listen to it for a few days, have a good cry....and then I'm done.

Some of the songs that get me through breakups

I usually re-work lyrics to certain songs, to fit the occasion, because 'love' is sometimes not everything it's cracked up to be. For example, the disco hit by John Paul Young? Instead of singing "love is in the air, everywhere you look around"? I'll switch it up and sing it another way: "love wasn't found, anywhere around" because that's how it goes sometimes, yanno?
Sometimes, it's the best thing that could happen to me (invoking Gladys Knight, now, lol :| ) because who wants to stay in a relationship that isn't working well? (not me, ain't got time for that sh*t). |
