We never did to the Bunko! I still need to learn how to play!

Thank you Pup and Oiler for hosting a fabulous Charlotte book club!

Arwen 02-26-2012 11:24 PM

I'll have to withdraw from the book club. I cannot make Saturdays. When we first discussed this, we had said Sunday. Y'all have a great time. I'm sorry I can't be there. :(

blush 02-26-2012 11:32 PM

A hiatus perhaps?

No withdrawal?
Sat works better for some of us this time of year.
It's not perfect for anyone.
What if we switch it around? Sundays starting in June?

If you have an opinion about days, post it or pm me, and we'll take majority.

Just let me know. I'd love to take part in this but they have removed all ability to take Saturdays off at this point. So I'm fairly cranky about it. I'm going to have to just take a point in April so I can be there for our Halfway event. Resumes have been sent out though. I'm looking a bit north of here though. :D

Who wants to get all hot and sweaty with Ebon and me?

Wednesday, March 7th

Ebon has graciously agreed to help me move some of my stuff and he'd probably be really grateful if someone else was available to help too. I know I'd be eternally grateful for the help also!

So, please let me know if you are able to help or, if not, if you are able to loan us some blankets and padding or a decent dolly to use. I'll have a furniture dolly but a hand dolly would be better.

Thanks!

It's okay. I know it's going to be tough for most.

Midweek is not my preference either.

Leslie (Cochran) has been an Austin icon for a long time.

He was found unconscious October 3rd 2009 and had to have brain surgery. The news said he had a stroke and a "head injury from a fall," but he stated he had been attacked.

He survived that but never fully recovered, and he turned 60 eight months ago. He recently announced he was leaving Austin to move back to Colorado, but before he could leave he was found unconscious in a parking lot, and yesterday he passed away. March 8th has been declared Leslie Day by the mayor, and the city council had a moment of silence in his honor. A memorial will be held for him on Sunday at Auditorium Shores.

Here he was the first time he ran for mayor back in 2000.

And here is a video where he says he was attacked by 5 people.

The news never reported he was attacked or that he reported being attacked, but instead say he had a "fall." This injury back in 2009 was the beginning of his declining health.

Anyway, RIP Leslie and thanks for being you.

Ebon 03-12-2012 08:05 AM

Everyone thanks for a great send off. I'm going to miss you guys very much and it was nice to laugh and smile with everyone. It's been a wonderful weekend. We had a brunch on Sunday that lasted until 8pm so it's been an awesome last weekend here in Austin.

Blush and Goofy I'm sorry I didn't get to see you guys but you are probably having a blast there in Disneyland.

Everyone else that wasn't able to make it I will miss you and sorry I didn't get to see you before I am leaving. Hopefully will see you at the reunion.

"ether man" rapist has been caught -

http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/local/a...e-more-charges

He assaulted a woman who lived across the street from me back in 2006. Never was I more thankful to live in the same house as my old roommate's big protective growly German shepherd. I'm glad this guy was caught.

http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/local/e..._kxan_11022009

Nat 03-13-2012 08:14 AM

A friend in Austin posted yesterday that there was an assault against a transperson in Austin over the weekend, but I haven't found any info on the news yet. Does anybody know what happened?

While looking for this information, I also searched for follow-up info regarding Norma Hurtado. She and her mother Maria were shot dead by her girlfriend's father in Austin last year. I found a youtube memorial put up by the victims' son/brother:

She was a cute little baby butch and I emphasize *baby* because I think she was only 23. I know that being out carries a higher risk of death, but I think one of the most tragic things about this was that her mother was also shot. If I were to be shot for being gay, I'd have to say it was worth it to live life as who I am, but if somebody shot my mom because of my orientation - that's just a whole other level of heartbreak.

Hey y'all just had to share...
I'm coloring easter eggs and making a few baskets tonight and can't help smiling as I remember us coloring all of those eggs and making 50 easter baskets for the old folks' home.

The assembly line...Arwen and Goofy trying to make the ugliest egg. oops sorry, I meant they were trying to make the coolest egg. Blush and Ashton drawing designs, durrrrrrrrrrrrr and Candace orchestrating the assembly line. Remember that chick named Pixie who helped? Nah....

And everybody else there. Good times.

When we handed them out, remember the couple trading their socks without saying a word? durrrrrrrrr's deadpan answer when the lady asked if the eggs were hard boiled. ("That's what we're telling people.) She was tickled by the old smartass.

We will definitely do that again next year. This year, it was just too much to swing on top of a little party we're planning for next week. That was so fun!

That was so much fun. I loved that we got together to do something like that where we all participated in making someone else a little happier. You rock for putting that together. :D Maybe we can make May Day baskets. :D
