Thank-you for your reply Daywalker. I hope you get into quit-mode again. Modifying your eating behaviour is a really good preparation. I'm almost afraid to ask what a Ding Dong is but I'll ask anyway...what is it? The things I like to snack on aren't healthy options either so along with that slowed down nicotine free metabolism, that probably accounts for my extra 25lbs. I need to start a healthier food regimen too and cycle more miles.
I can understand the 'self destruct' thang. I'm at the start of one of those times myself. I just lost my (very prt time) job and then my home of the last 13yrs all within the space of a couple of weeks :worried: the house move isn't quite imminent but it's going to happen sooner or later. I just wanna bury my head in the self-destruct-sand :canoworms: ...I won't smoke tobacco though, that lung-destruction is already done. |
Good morning Incubus, gaea, Daywalker and those trying or even thinking about it.
Happy Smoke-free Monday...It has be a whole month for me! Today is a test, going to play golf for the 1st time without smoking.....big big triggers, in between tees. I can do this, new experiences. Have a great day everyone! |
Enjoy your golf game OSB. You can indeed do it. It's just another step in your own behaviour modification :D

Good evening! I can't believe I have made it 5 weeks.
How is everyone else doing? Yesterday was really hard. I sure was thinking that I was done with hard times. I suppose they will keep popping up every now and then. I hope everyone had a great smokeless weekend. |

Gaea, OSB...You two are doing brilliantly. Building on your successes is the name of the game now.
*huggles gaea* I hope you feel better soon. The tonsils extraction will be a breeze, there's so much less chance of the site becoming infected immediately after the op now that you don't smoke too. Result!! |
3 whole months or 13 weeks
today 3 whole months....the 11th...imagine that wow.
I read something here then decided enough was enough and boom here i am 3 whole months later...i made the decision no one else, me,,,, i need to grab a hold of the good stuff.... being sick has made me crabby, irritable, sad and and probably not good company.... this makes me smile...:) yesterday i put a smoke out for Day....I looked at it rolled it around probably had that intense "i want to smoke" look on my face, as a comment was made...i really didn't want to smoke i just wanted to do what i did with it, roll it around and look at it.... |
Woo hoo! That is grand, gaea. I don't think I could do that with a cigarette. Putting in my hands.....I don't think I could resist at this time....That " just one" would get me, thinking I could just have one more and not another...Kinda like Lay's potato chips.
I am really glad you have made it, gives me hope that I can too. Tomorrow is my 6 week mark. Doing those things that I normally smoke while doing is still hard. It is getting a little. Keep it up gaea, to all those thinking about it and those that have succeeded for years! I love reading the successes! OSB Quote:

Fuckin' A!
gaea...3 soddin' months...how cool is that? I'm dreadfully proud of you! Just the right words at the right time and look where you are now :D OSB...go you...6 weeks is amazing...did you ever think you'd reach 6weeks without a ciggie? Seriously impressed!! ~There are no reasons to start smoking again, just excuses (posted as self advice......no I haven't but I soooo wanted a cig tonight) |

I quit smoking 3 years ago and it was the single best thing I have ever done for my health. I no longer wheeze or cough all the time and I definitely sleep better. (Plus, I've saved a WHOOOOOLE lot of money!) You can DO IT! |

just stititng here thinking
I do real well in the morning i don't even think about smoking...
i would say 98% of my day is spent without thinking of smoking the other 2 % well that is a given i think..... when i do think about it my thoughts are generally ...."you have come to far to wipe out the work you have done" or "dumbass, why do you wanna smoke?" and sometimes i think "your doing well" and i just smile to myself cause no one around to see that smile or what it is about. |

I so know that secret somewhat smug non-smoker smile  |

my sweetie quit smoking 4 weeks ago today, at 9 pm....
I was once a smoker...I get the whole smoking thing and the whole quitting thing.... I am (still) amazed at how he did it...never complaining, or being mean or scary or anything other than a moment here and there of being tired and a little spacey... I am so proud of him and all he does...this one is way at the top of the list... what a wonderful way to care for yourself and those who care about you... I admire you all for finding the will to get out from under... be well and strong... cheers N |

FDA Chantix Warning
Chantix (varenicline): Label Change - Risk of Certain Cardiovascular Adverse Events
[UPDATED 07/22/2011] FDA has approved an updated drug label for Chantix (varenicline) to include information about the efficacy and safety of the drug in two patient populations who may benefit greatly from giving up smoking—those with cardiovascular disease and those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The updated label now also includes alternative directions for patients to select a quit smoking date. [Posted 06/16/2011] AUDIENCE: Family Medicine, Cardiology ISSUE: FDA notified healthcare professionals and patients that the Prescribing Information for this drug product will be strengthened to inform the public that use of varenicline may be associated with a small, increased risk of certain cardiovascular adverse events in patients who have cardiovascular disease. This safety information will be added to the Warnings and Precautions section and the patient Medication Guide. BACKGROUND: FDA reviewed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of 700 smokers with cardiovascular disease who were treated with Chantix or placebo. While cardiovascular adverse events were infrequent overall, certain events, including heart attack, were reported more frequently in patients treated with Chantix than in patients treated with placebo. The events included angina pectoris, nonfatal myocardial infarction, need for coronary revascularization, and new diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease or admission for a procedure for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. FDA is continuing to evaluate the cardiovascular safety of Chantix and is requiring the manufacturer to conduct a large, combined analysis (meta-analysis) of randomized, placebo-controlled trials. FDA will update the public when additional information is available. RECOMMENDATION: See the Data Summary section of the Drug Safety Communication for additional information. Healthcare professionals should be aware that smoking is an independent and major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and smoking cessation is of particular importance in this patient population. The known benefits of Chantix should be weighed against its potential risks when deciding to use the drug in smokers with cardiovascular disease. Patients are encouraged to read the Medication Guide they receive along with their Chantix prescription. Healthcare professionals and patients are encouraged to report adverse events, side effects, or product quality problems related to the use of these products to the FDA's MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program: Full story here ---> http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/S.../ucm259469.htm |
