What Gives You Peace?

If You've had a cruddy day, what do You do to 'shake it off'? Meditate? Listen to music? Read? Walk?

What do You do to center Yourself...to bring peace to Your soul?

Right now, sleep would give me peace.

I'll revisit this thread much later, when I'm more alert and give my view(s).

Take a nice, long bath.

Listen to music and read upstairs while the guys watch TV downstairs (I'm not big on TV).

Masturbate.:o

Nature
My Faith
Sometimes just being in the presents of friends - not talking but being together

Linus 11-11-2009 10:28 AM

- a good cigar
- a quiet moment just listening to the world whiz by
- going for a long (8 hours+) bike ride and getting lost in the country with not a soul around
- playing WoW :D

~ Music........always the music.........<smile>

~Talking to my daughter

~Talking to The Berry

~Standing on my terrace, listening to the crunching of leaves in the woods, knowing that the deer are there.....

~Having a houseful of people, all talking and laughing....I could stand off to the side and listen to them for forever.....all that noise? Yes....it gives me peace! Go figure!

~A cup of coffee and quiet conversation in The Quiet Room

What brings me peace every single day is this little fellow. I adore him more than words could ever express. He takes good care of his Daddy ;)

He is a long hair chihuahua and his name is Murray Oliver

My pug Vinnie. He is the calmest, sweetest boy. Not so much the boxer puppy, until she is sweetly sleeping next to me.

Building something or fixing something.

Certain songs.

Sitting by a river, near a campfire, or laying in my camper at night.

A hug from my mom.

Looking at pictures of good times spent with friends...I can just feel the love when I relive those moments in my mind.

TeaPartyTart 11-11-2009 07:53 PM

A good workout is a great way for me to shake off the blahs. Spin class lets me zone out.

But the best thing is the world is being with my dogs.

My favorite is when I'm not feeling so great and I'm laying in the bed watching tv, Cooper will crawl up and lay on my belly with his little face resting on my chest. He just lays there and looks at me and falls asleep.

Magoo is a big snuggler and he actually likes to spoon!

I love how sweet and intuitive my little pooches are.

Mtn 11-11-2009 08:04 PM

Spending the days and nights with my sweet girl, the dogs playing in the livingroom, the snow falling quietly outside...I am Buddha blessed...

Tommi 11-11-2009 08:20 PM

My girl

My arms around her. The feel of her next to me knowing she is safe, and the feel of her skin as her clothes....wait that's another Feeling thread.

Novelafemme 11-11-2009 08:23 PM

My daughters. The sound of my love's voice and knowing that I am a priority in her life. Shanti's gift of yoga and breath. A glass of red wine and a lavender bath. ;)

Pixie 11-11-2009 08:34 PM

Drown my stress with music....

Get to water...which lately is just a hot epsom salt bath...but usually a lake or river is nice to let your stress, worries, and problems drift from you even for just that moment

Do something with my hands....bowl, toss my rifle or sabre, paint...

Or go for a drive...

Mindy 11-11-2009 10:06 PM

Graphics... Creating something pretty, at times I can lose myself in it for hours. I created the one in my signature line, but it's not one of my best, just one that would fit well.. lol

*edit for clarification* I do not draw the women, I just put them all together add some special effects, etc... In the one in my sig line, the woman on the left side was drawn just for me by the artist Ismael Rac. It's for sale in the site where he sells his graphics for public use, but I got to commission her for being member of the month at his forum. The full one is so cool, she's in leather corset, panties, garter, and has stockings, and she's holding a riding crop. He made a separate version that is only mine, that no one else can even buy where she has red streaks in her hair, and has leather studded collar and bracelets.

The thought of a small white cottage with lacy curtains blowing in the wind....all white inside and out, with sky blue ceilings and a porch swing......a place to write.....and it sits on a cliff, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.....

I don't know if such a place exists....but the thought of it gives me peace just the same.

Andrew, Jr. 11-19-2009 10:18 AM

Walking on the beach
Watching the waves
Smoking a really good cigar
A nice gentle breeze
Drinking a really good cup of coffee or a mixed drink

I was having a bad day yesterday. I recently had a procedure that has had me trapped in the house for the past week.... I felt like I was going to bust outta my skin yesterday. Sooooo, I had someone come pick me up and take me to their place for a while. Sometimes just doing something entirely different helps me a LOT. Other times, complete silence is my soothing medicine. I can sit in silence all by myself for a good long time and come out of it greatly calmed down and with a new attitude. Then of course there's always critter love. Who can stay in a funk with fur babies lovin on them? I know I can't :)

always2late 11-24-2009 01:46 PM

The sight, sound, and smell of the ocean
My son's laughter
Hearing a voice that I miss
The smell of autumn

foxyshaman 11-24-2009 02:10 PM

A good long bath with almond oil
Good music
Drumming
Singing
Coloring

After reading all of the replies, I can identify with most of them !

I love classical music, and that in an otherwise quiet house, is cathartic for me. Dont know why, but it is.

I love a trail run, especially if its misty or sprinkling outside. I find my stride and let the zen of an easy rhythm just take over.

I love watching a sunset on Puget Sound. The Ferry's traveling across the bay and the seagulls finding their places for the night is calming.

But the MOST wonderful way to peace and groundedness is the end of a day with my girlfriend. There is such calm and a feeling of protectiveness hearing her soft breath in the middle of the night. And that puts my heart at peace.

Diva 11-24-2009 03:14 PM

~When I write, I listen to meditation music....it's ambient....no lyrics to distract me. Very mellow and peaceful and it helps push the purple ink out of my fountain pen. <soft smile>

~A nap with my puppy gives me peace......and if my feet are cold (I hate shoes), she lays on top of them....that's love. :paw::heartbeat:

Just the thought of drums makes me smile... The good solid beat of drum music... mmmm... Makes me want to dance, belly dance... and grounds me... This is joyful.

Drumming is soothing for the soul imho.:drummer:

Music does, indeed, soothe the savage beast. At least the beast within me when I get riled up, am frustrated, or just feeling crappy. I pop my headphones on and jam out as I see fit in my own little world. The music I choose depends upong my mood and will also determine what I feel like after my little retreat.

If I'm angry or frustrated, Disturbed or Three Days Grace or Breaking Benjamin is good. If I am contemplative, One Republic or Daughtry or John Mayer or Rob Thomas is good. If I'm just kind of rowdy, Nickelback or Pitbull or Ciara is good. If I'm feeling sweet, Colbie Caillat or Demi Lovato or Mandy Moore is good.

These are good singers and groups that I consider my 'go to' music, but there are several acts that have produced music that can fit into different categories, such as Christina Aguilera, Madonna, Bianca Ryan, and T-SO.

I hung out with Nickleback all quiet and conversation like ...it was cool.

What gives me peace?

Mint hot chocolate.
Candles
My living room that is so comfortable and homey
A bath
Feeding my feral cats that after 10 months are finally letting me pet them.
The look in my cats eyes when he looks at me when I pet him and sing to him.
Watching a movie with my Father.
Hearing water flowing.
Watching snow fall.
Being held in front of a fireplace.

Pixie 11-25-2009 08:18 PM

Peace for me comes with understanding and realizing that

-I not only survived today but I lived it.
-No matter what, who, when, where, and why... I am loved...always by me.
-Yesterday brought today and the opportunity for tomorrow.

TheSqueeze 11-30-2009 08:06 PM

My doggies give me incredible peace. They are the sweetest most loving little guys, they just melt right into me we they know I need it. We're cool like that...heh.

Toofrufru 11-30-2009 08:17 PM

A clean house with the dog/cat snuggled up after a long walk

Soft music getting out my journal and purging to see where I am

Coffee and meditations with the sounds of my girlfriend tinkering butch things in the background.

Waking from or going into an afternoon nap and listening her breathe, feeling her warm next to me brings a calmness from the rhythm.

Lynn 11-30-2009 08:25 PM

*The solitude and sounds of nature, especially the woods and mountains.
*The quiet of my house when everyone settles down to sleep.
*When my cats purr, especially the harmony of them purring together.
*When my daughters are home with me, safe.
*No matter what's going on, my sweetheart's embrace gives me peace.

All good things, except I'm not much of a gardener. I appreciate a good garden when I see one though.

Sometimes if I become unnerved by something...or someone....I have learned to just stop. I stop and turn on the music. And I let the music be my blanket. I allow myself to become immersed in it and centered by it. Music is my greatest Peace Resource.....always has been.

weatherboi 12-01-2009 11:03 PM

Cooking brings me peace. It is an old standard for me. I also meditate and practice yoga. Fixing things brings me peace. I had to take apart my a/c compressor today and once I was done I felt refreshed.

so curious, do you mean literally a little white pill or something else?

Gemme 12-02-2009 09:00 PM

I admit it; I eat my emotions. So, on the days when I realllllly need some peace, I will get it from food. That first couple of bites is HEAVEN.

On a side note, did anyone know that after the first couple of bites of a new food, your taste buds begin to fade and lose some of the flavor of the food?

Mitmo01 12-12-2009 07:16 PM

A warm bath always does it for me...some candles and myself floating in the hottest possible water my skin can take...it always relaxes me beyond belief

sometimes its a drink as well or even weed but when i want real relief its always in the form of some water
